Sadly one of the worst hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. Tiny double room that should never have been made a double, it was obviously a single room and hotel owners decided to put a 4ft double bed in it pushed up against one wall so you have to camber out the end of the bed. Extremely dated decor in room and in hotel. Room dirty, they'd never though about cleaning under the bed! Very functional bathroom and no toiletries provided which is pretty poor as even the most basic £30 B&B will have these. I was warned when booking it was a small double, but had no idea it could be that small. When I complained it was just too small for 2 people to use and not fit for purpose I was told there was noting they could do as hotel was full, OK understand that, but I then asked if we could leave and was told I'd have to pay for 2 nights stay out of my 3 night booking. So we decided to stay and put up with it but cancelled the last night and relocated to Horwood House down the road which had a Sunday offer for the same price and was perfect! Avoid the small double room and probably avoid the hotel. It needs a complete refurbishment which I appreciate is very expensive, but you can't let a room like ours which was basically horrible.

It's a shame that the main thing which lets it down is the mattresses which are very uncomfortable, you can feel the springs and cleanliness could be better. As cleanliness and a comfortable night's sleep are the most important things its the reason I only gave 3 stars, otherwise it would be 5 stars. No 34 in separate building across the alleyway had plenty of character and is a good size. Free Secure car parking. Good food available in main building which is again full of character and atmosphere. Fridge and hairdryer in the room. Tea and coffee facilities with tasty free cookies, Radiator with thermostatic control which worked well to control the level of heat in the room. Room was cool and very quiet at night. Although we booked a triple room it was a family room with 2 single beds and a Double and cost £85pn room only.

Fantastic original old Tudor pub and hotel, has to be one of the best Sunday lunches I've ever had, for £21 you get a starter egg mayo salad, or mackerel, or pate, or prawn salad or soup of the day with fresh bread roll and real butter then the carvery, loads of meat, lamb beef pork chicken or a bit of each and all the veg cooked beautifully, fresh Yorkshire pudding, not the dry crispy ones that taste like cardboard. Real gravy made with the meat juices, every condiment you can think of. Then a selection of sweets to finish, not the cheapest place I've ever been to but it's definitely worth every penny, great friendly staff who can't do enough for you. You meet to book and the carpark is small and it gets really busy.

Lovely olde worldy hotel. An absolute maze of rooms which is a bit confusing for the first time visitor. Staff were very friendly and pleasant. My room was at what seemed to be the very top of the building and although it was a beautiful room, it was a fair climb, in heels, especially with luggage! I would never ever ask for assistance, but it would have been a nice touch to be offered some help since I was on my own. There was a mini fridge in the room and also a hairdryer which was great, although the plugs were hard to reach! Bed was comfy and plenty of windows to let in the fresh air overnight. Breakfast the following morning was adequate but I wouldn’t write home about it. It was a self serve buffet style breakfast. The food was a little on the cold side and not all that delicious unfortunately. I did have an offer of an egg, freshly cooked to my preference - I chose a fried egg and it was lovely. The rest of what was on my plate was just ‘ok’. To sum up the bell is a very quaint place & Obviously steeped in history (I had winding gear on my ceiling! I felt it was a shame it was wrapped up though, I suppose to protect peoples heads from bumps, but looking after their head is up to them? No? Sad times of the world we now live in?) would love to know more about this place; and the pies seem to be a thing, although I didn’t try any this time. They sounded soooo delicious though! I would definitely go back to spend a bit longer there; find more out about the place. In trainers just in...

We had our wedding reception at The Bell in September and Tara and her team were extraordinary. The process was easy and stress free from day one. We picked colours for the tables, food, and drinks options are were knew that Tara had everything in hand. We were given a complimentary bridal suite in the hotel which was stunning in Tudor house- meets chic boutique style, and included breakfast the next morning. As well as our own accommodation there were rooms put aside for our guests, who were given a discount.

We turned up to a beautifully decorated room, complete with cupcake stands and chair ribbons in our requested colours. The food was incredible and bountiful. We had lots of compliments and people were convinced we must have spent loads on the food, when actually it was low price with high quality. We had some vegans and vegetarians in attendance and they gave fantastic feedback on their food.

Service by the wait staff was exceptional in bringing round drinks for toasts and the bar staff were helpful and prompt in their service.

I didn't have to worry about a thing on the night, or in the planning, so could relax and enjoy my night.

I have had so many compliments from our guests about the reception- especially the food- and I can only give credit to Tara and her team at The Bell.

Thank you so much for making our wedding a day...

Well.. Went there for first time..menu seemed nice.. But then, they had board for day's special in the kitchen and displayed on TV near bar area, where they take orders. So there was chicken with haggis and Highlands chicken.. I started asking lady whether it was similar to Balmoral chicken, which is Scottish dish. She was saying not really.. Anyway, I decided to give it a go. We ordered scotch egg with black pudding for starters. Egg was completely cooked, hard boiled, probably reheated? As scotch egg needs to be runny, unless you buy it in the supermarket. But I did quite enjoy it. Anyway, when they brought mains, they had a pie for me. I didn't want and order pie. They said that's what it is. Waitress starting saying it says pies and list of fillings, I said I misunderstood as board wasn't clear, but I was kindly given chance to reorder. I took waitress to TV displaying specialities board, and said look: whole dishes and pie fillings mixed and not clear and the phrase:available pies-pies word was covered with award winning rosette, she admitted it was covered, therefore board was unclear and me explaining - it is all mixed anyway. After all, I have ordered hunters chicken, my sister has finished her main by then, mine arrived after, chicken was fairly dry and chewy, because I guess it was cooked in rush.. So quite...
