Went to the Inn on Friday after accidentally finding it. Had a lovely pint and was impressed with it. Went in on Saturday afternoon hoping to have some food after a long day of walking but the menu isn't exactly catered for everyone and not the pub grub we were expecting. Given that this is one of 2 available eating establishments in the area there isn't a wide choice available on the menu. After asking for a simple bowl of chips and gravy the barman laughed at me saying that the chef wouldn't do that I then asked just for chips and was told it would be 10 minutes. I paid for the 2 portions of chips and 2 pints of moretti and it came to £18. I queried this and again was laughed at where I was told - they're not frozen chips. I didn't expect them to be but £4 for a portion of chips is ridiculous. I was sitting outside in the sun so naturally asked if I could eat outside where I was told no. We came inside to eat and the least I would have expected would have been a fork to eat my food with. After asking for some cutlery they were slammed down on the table by the miserable Chef who then stormed off. The place had just reopened and the barman was on his own but I didn't choose to open on a bank holiday weekend! I don't expect to be laughed at when I ask for something that isn't an unreasonable request. The menu is far too pretentious albeit I'm sure...
Read moreWe have just arrived home from staying here, and my god what a find! ||||We were welcomed by the staff running the pub. It’s was a really friendly welcome and they set about organising an evening meal and breakfast times for us as the hotel a few feet away (all owned by the same people). They made us feel instantly comfortable the second we walked in. Additionally they were really stringent with the number of guests they had in the pub due to the pandemic and were observed them ensuring everything was clean when people came and went.||||The room (more of an entire upstairs floor than a room) is huge, beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, very comfortable and to top it off has amazing views from 3 really large windows.||||We had a super king bed, couch, large Tv, fireplace, dining table and an enormous bathroom with a double sink, large shower and a free standing bath.||||Couldn’t hear any noise whatsoever from the pub below. ||||The meals we had at the Pennington hotel (dinner and breakfast) were of good quality and good value and we would happily eat there again. ||||Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and were disappointed to only be staying the one night. We will definitely be heading back to this gem of a place again soon.||||To the staff.. thank you for being so lovely, it went a long way to making our weekend even...
Read moreAfter reading the positive reviews for food we decided to book a table. The food to be fair was really good, service well below average. It feels as though its run purely for the convenience of its staff. We were given 2 very dirty, food- stained menus, no mention of the specials available which we later saw on the wall to the side of the bar after we'd ordered but we're never mentioned when ordering. Ordered 2 glasses of wine which were delivered wrong and questioned twice. Asked for a coffee at the end of the meal only to be told they dont serve coffee... really ?? Despite all this, we gave a decent tip, never even got a thank you. Do you need a receipt i was asked, I said yes and they forgot that as well.
Nice food,really...
