The star of this show is Sheila, the proprietor. Superb! Ideally situated for Pennine Way, Edale to Crowden. With mate who's walking Lands End to John O' Groats but his local accom. had no room so the White House came up trumps. I was in self-contained annexe. Really comfy, warm and clean. Everything here; tea/coffee, biscuits, toiletries and wi-fi. Did I like putting on the dressing gown after a shower following the 18 mile walk? You bet. As I needed to meet up with mate Sheila offered me a lift to his lodgings. After an excellent night's sleep and a lovely brek, which she'd made really early as I needed to leg it, Sheila gave me a lift to say goodbye to my mate before dropping me at the Bus Stop in Glossop. What a star! For those that don't fancy the walk from the Pennine Way to the hotel, about 1 1/2 miles, Sheila will arrange transfers. What a star! Left a really warm impression on me and would love to go back. And all for...
Read moreAn absolute godsend for us - stumbled across this gem somehow and booked for the end of day one of Pennine Way. Good communication prior re leaving car there - and organising lift that offered from the end of the walk back to the accomodation. One of the nicest welcomes you could ever get - and great value too! Lovely area too (photo taken of view out of bedroom window to the back) Rooms spot on for our needs - and even better just 2 mins walk to a pub (had stopped serving meals by 8pm but allowed us to do deliveroo to there so we sat and drank beer and ate pizza & kebab in the beer garden!) A cracking breakfast the next day - fresh fruit, cereals, full english, toast, homemade marmalade, juice/tea/coffee and a lovely chat with the amazing host Sheila who showed us the visitors book going back to 1976. That says it all - no one lasts that long doing anything, unless they have got it right!...

Sheila picked us up from the end of our day's walking on the Pennine Way and dropped us off the next morning at the start of the next day's walk. We were running late when we arrived after a hard day over Kinder Scout. Sheila phoned the only pub in town to ask the chef to stay on to make us dinner.
I was travelling with a friend. Our rooms were in an annex with its own separate access. We got great rates for single occupancy of twin rooms. The room had everything we could want and more. Loads of toiletries, loads of coffees and teas, biscuits, bottled water. Really comfortable beds.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Fresh fruit, cereal, cooked vegetarian breakfast, great coffee.
We walked for five days on the Pennine Way. This was day 1. We never found a better place to stay! Highly...
