Our original review has been "misplaced." That should tell you enough about our stay. We have stayed in hotels all over the world and this by far is the worst and that is incredibly surprising considering the price we paid to stay here. On entry, the staff was pleasant, even told us that we were lucky to get a room that weekend due to an event nearby.
First night, some kind of vicious brawl breaks out in the adjourning room. It's around 3AM and I am scrambling to barricade the doors while things are slamming against the paper thin walls. My wife calls the front desk to get help, only to hear that "they are aware of the issue." No attempt to move us or any other comfort. The next 15 mins or so, we are in the corner arming ourselves with whatever we can find until the police swiftly come in and take the brawlers away. 4AM, the staff starts cleaning the aftermath and we can hear them through the paper thin walls. Maybe not the best time to be fixing broken glass and a tv? Seems one of the fighters has left his cell phone behind and no one wants to answer it. It's left there, ringing all night. Did I mention that we can hear the person using the toilet right on the other side of our headboard? We don't sleep that night from the combination of noise and adrenaline.
Next morning, we tell the front desk about our awful night. She was not aware of the disturbance and offered nothing to compensate. Should you have to pay if you couldn't sleep (or are in danger for the night?) We already paid for the weekend, so we are stuck.
We return in the evening. We have to get 2 codes for wifi, one for each device and they are only good for that day. That is incredibly annoying for the 21 century. We slept a little that night, despite the urinating man with the all-night bladder issue on the other side of the headboard. We are reasonable people. We do not have high expectations, especially for a hotel so close to a busy airport. But safety issues, non-soundproof walls, and apathetic staff?
At check out, we tell them about our troubles. We get an apology. That's all. There is only so much you can say without losing your mind, so we leave and write a review. The review is gone, so I'm writing it again.
My advice for you, anywhere but here. Save yourself the trouble we had.
My advice for the hotel, fix the walls. It's so loud! The wifi is annoying...one key is fine! If someone has a problem, say being a few feet from an assault...maybe offer some comfort and some compensation for the night. Especially at the extortion...
Read moreAfter a horrendous stay last time in a standard room where it was so hot and you couldn’t open the window properly or turn the heating off; and it took 20minutes for the toilet to refill after every flush … our expectation were higher this time as we booked an executive room! However, we got ‘upgraded’ to a family room??!! With two beds instead of one large bed (we have no kids) and whilst the room temperature was perfect on arrival, the moment we inserted the key card to enable lights and electricity, the heating kicked in despite being on the lowest possible setting, and as before, the room just kept getting hotter and hotter, and window restricters meant we could not open it more than inch again. It was therefore not a good nights sleep. We booked the dining 3course package and a table for 6pm as we had a very early start. Sadly this went wrong too. We arrived at 6pm, ate our starters, then when our mains hadn’t arrived by 7.30pm we chased when they would be arriving, as a few customers who had arrived well after us had finished both their courses and departed by then (three of them being served the same fish & chips that I had chosen..) There was a lovely manager on duty called Courtney, who really pulled out all the stops and tried to get the kitchen back on track, but despite this, my fish & chips were then rushed, and arrived semi raw. Eventually we finished the (recooked)main courses well after 8pm and just did not feel inclined to wait for our chosen desserts as it was just so late and we had a very early start the next morning. I cannot praise Courtney enough for her excellent customer service in dealing with our issues, but once again it has not been the best stay here at the Maldron Belfast International, despite the one night bill of £294 for an executive room, 15nts parking and two set three course dinners. I truly going to be very hard pushed to give this hotel a third try.. I hope management reads this review and acts...
Read moreOverall good but the restaurant let this hotel down.
Firstly my vegetarian husband ordered a veggie burger and was brought a beef burger. I had very limited options for a vegetarian meal as I am gluten free. I ended up with a salad that was too big, and chips that were very good.
We ordered water for the table and assumed that this was tap water, and free. When we were checking out the next morning, we were charged £4.50 for a bottle of Ballygowan water. But the water we had been given came in a glass bottle and was not labelled as Ballygowan water. I suspect we were given tap water and charged for Ballygowan water.
Finally, we bought a bottle of wine in the bar - the barman was great - and took it to our table in the restaurant, having cleared this with the barman and the waitress who showed us to our table.
After our meal, my husband was at the bar again ordering a drink, when the manager of the restaurant came to the bar and asked the barman if we had paid for the bottle of wine in the bar.
He didn't acknowledge my husband's presence beside him.
Why was this necessary? This could have been cleared up at our table and I have to say it was embarrassing.
This was the same person who took our order wrong, resulting in the beef burger incident.
This was a luxury one night stay that we paid for as we had an early flight the next morning. It cost us £208, including dinner and breakfast, and we're not rich. Would I do it again? Not after our experience of the restaurant. We left...
