Heron House B&B really does set the standard for B&Bs. It ticks the main four boxes - quiet room, good shower, good night's sleep, good breakfast - but goes far beyond that. Fiona is a welcoming and efficient host, as well as being very flexible with timings and choices for breakfast. Her cooking is something to be savoured... the cooked breakfast was great but the freshly made blueberry pancakes with maple syrup were absolutely outstanding! All of the jams, honey, compote and so on are home made, and the bread is fresh from the bakery just up the street. Our room was an en suite overlooking the back of the house and it was quiet, clean, fairly spacious and comfortable. All manner of coffees and teas were in the room, together with a flask of fresh milk and chilled water, and even a few snacks like Kit-Kats! WiFi was excellent in the room although it seemed to take a few minutes to connect properly but got there in the end. We'd recommend booking at any of the local eateries in Bampton as they seem to fill up quickly. The Spar and Co-op shops are useful but hot snacks are only available earlier in the day. If you're looking for things to do nearby, Tiverton Museum is well worth a visit and can occupy a couple of hours, and Wimbleball Lake is incredibly peaceful with good walks and watersports too - and a great cafe. Obviously Exmoor is just on the doorstep too. Overall we'd definitely...

The house itself is full of character and charm, with a beautifully kept country garden that guests are warmly encouraged to enjoy.||Our bedroom was large, peaceful, and very comfortable — with a high-quality bed, white fluffy towels, a well-stocked drinks tray, and a good shower with plenty of hot water. Read moreThis was our 3rd short break at the Heron House. Again cannot fault Fiona for her hosting, and cooking. We stayed in the Super King room overlooking the garden. There is a large ensuite with a power shower. The toiletries , bedding, towels (large!), etc.. are some ot the best we have ever experienced in a B&B. We had a two course "supper" evening meal beautifully cooked by Fiona plus coffee and lindt chocolates in the living room with a roaring log fire. So relaxing. We were going to have a Thai meal on the second evening but the restaurant had to close due to illness so we had fish and chips from the local chippy which Fiona allowed us to eat at the Heron House. As a non licensed property, you can take you own alcohol to accompany your evening meals. The breakfasts are fantastic. You can have cooked break, kippers, scrambled eggs with salmon. There are some excellent restaurants within walking distance of the B&B. The Swan is one where we have eaten at before. Bampton is ideally located as a base to visit Exmoor with lovely walks nearby. Heron House is a luxury B&B. Cannot praise Fiona high enough. If you want a relaxing break, to wind down and experience high quality accommodation, food etc.. Heron House is the...
