Firstly, the instructions given to us to find the place were strange as best.....finally found it - was shocked at what we had just driven into.. and told to go through the green gate...great, there are 2, finally found the right one and was even more shocked when we walked up to the door....it wasn’t shut because it can’t shut. Was met by a lovely girl, shown to our enormously huge room and disappointed all over again.||We thought we were coming to a lovely manor estate for our 3 night stay in a deluxe king suite with water views only to be looking at something like Fawlty Towers. The views were between tree branches of an overgrown garden.||The bathroom was an old fashioned bathtub with a hand held shower attachment. no shower curtain, no nice toiletries...it was massive bottle of shampoo and body wash..the kind you refill after each guest. Toilet paper was on a shelf, no toilet holder even though plenty of wall space. No other amenities at all.||The room had a kettle, some tea and 2 tea cups. If you wanted coffee or milk, you had to go downstairs into the parlour to have there. ||The bed turned out to be a trampoline...worst nights sleep. Pillows were so soft you suffocated putting your head down. I ended up folding it in half and stuffing back into the pillowcase. Breakfast was a continental breakfast consisting of cereals, yoghurt, juice, fruit, croissants and crumpets. Nothing else. for £190 per night for a deluxe room I certainly felt justified to expect more. ||The pictures that advertised the place were so misleading. The gardens were totally overgrown and unkept, the paint was peeling. The carpet was worn thin. The whole place has so much potential, but definitely needs a huge influx of money to bring it to a standard to charge those kind of rates.||Only saving grace was I complained, that they let us out of one night so we could move onto our next destination..lucky I could get an additional night there as such a busy time.||I took pics, but unfortunately this app on a phone is horrible and wouldn’t let me load them.||The host was nice, but the place is not worth any amount of money as so in...
Read moreIf you are looking for a super modern experience, this ain't it. But if you want to pretend you are a dreamy novel while sipping your tea/whisky and listening to the birds in the garden, then this is the spot. The second floor rooms (US - 2nd floor, UK - 1st floor) that face the front have lovely views out toward the water. These views are not unobstructed - there are a lot of overgrown trees in your way. But I personally feel it adds to the romance of the place. It's obviously a very subjective thing.||||The woman working at the lodge was very nice and friendly. Full of advice on where to go for dinner and where to go for a walk.||||A couple of things worth mentioning - if you are disabled or have mobility issues, there is no elevator. There aren't showers, only bathtubs. And the bathtubs have no shower curtain or other method for keeping the water in, so getting out of the very deep bathtubs can be slippery/difficult/a bit dangerous. ||||Also there are no electrical outlets near the mirror in the bathroom, so if you need to blow dry your hair, curl or straighten your hair, there is nowhere to do so. If they added a mirror into the very spacious bedrooms, this would help with that problem.||||Overall, I enjoyed our 2 night stay. I don't think I could stay there for a very extended period of time due to the lack of modern amenities, but for a short, whimsical weekend, it is...
Read moreI had decent hopes for this accommodation as it looked a fine building in lovely grounds. Unfortunately it was rather underwhelming and dissapointing for the price we paid. |As the previous reviewer mentioned, the furnishings are outdated, there was no shower in our bathroom and one of the taps would not stop dripping. |It also had that 'old' smell throughout the building. Likely the rainy and cold conditions added to this. |The garden is unkempt and wildly overgrown which is a shame as it could be a feature of the grounds. |Some clearer signposting closer to the building would be beneficial as well. |Regarding the cost of the accomodation it is hard to see how the high price is justifiable. |If the house was redocorated/given some modern furnishings and the garden looked after it has the potential to be a delightful accommodation as the location and grounds are lovely and the rooms are an...
