This place was super beautiful. Pricey for the yurt but imo we had the best one #26-- closest to the water, not really close to others, panoramic view of the shoreline at the back of the lake. Yes fish were jumping. Enormous rocks on the trails to walk down to the lake so cool photo opps. The lake at the back is this bright almost lime green color, maybe from the red clay? Obvious why it's called Red Top Mountain... Everything looked red driving in, even the trees and this was June. They were working on AC for this yurt but weren't done yet. It had a used bar of soap and washcloth inside, so that was gross but it ain't the Hilton. $100 for one night so definitely not economical. It was beautiful tho. Three windows but could only close one for privacy, but the other two face the woods and the water, so I guess ok. Water spigot outside has great water pressure. I washed my hair in it. Bunk beds and a pull out bed in a couch. Not the comfiest but visibly not disgusting. No bugs. Like 5 high top chairs at a long high top metal table. Rickety but I put stuff under the legs to balance. Fire pit, deck, Adirondack chairs and old wood picnic table outside. Ceiling fan, two portable fans, two extension cords, power outlets supplied. Comfort station was surprisingly clean-- plenty of toilet paper and hot shower....
Read moreGreat campground! Ideal for a weekend trip or a few days away from home. We were looking for a place that provided RV access and was spacious not so crowded. We drove around the huge park to find the perfect spot and we did right near the water. There are many sites available with clean showers nearby. The showers are clean and feel pretty safe overall. During our stay we enjoyed a few days of tranquility and peace with all the beautiful scenery’s. We did a campfire and toasted up some smores. We cooked up a few steaks on the grill with some chilli. During the day we went on nature walks on the amazing trails this park had to offer. The trails were quiet and you had the ability to ride bikes if you wanted. We also went finshing and bought a few bass. The fish were most active during the day rather than the night. The RV parks allowed enough space per family so we weren’t all bunched up together which was great because it was comfortable enough where you could have your own privacy. We drove around town and there were several shops we stopped at to enjoy a bite and some fresh local coffee. The park also had a few areas where you can drive up and enjoy some gorgeous views. Overall we had a great stay and the locals were very welcoming and friendly. We will be coming...
Read moreOverall the camping experience here is very convenient and felt safe and family-friendly. There were lots of campers even during the weekdays and this particular location seems to be quite a popular destination for senior citizens. The campgrounds are kept up fairly well for the most part and the roads were free from debris. The firepits seem old and rusted and should probably be nearing their end-of-life fairly soon. There is a water faucet on the campsite in close proximity as well as multiple electrical outlets. There are some sneaky racoons here so be sure to secure your food because they do come to visit in the night time and scavenge the sites looking for their next meal. The visitor center sells firewood as well as the trading post. You can find bagged ice at the trading post as well.
The reason I took off 1-star was due to the following reasons: the bathroom facility, although not the worst in the Georgia State park portfolio of properties, needed a lot more TLC/cleaning. While the facilities were tolerable, they certainly could do with some...
