Although the igloo was super-cute, the experience left much to be desired. The igloo accommodations are comfortable and the shower is heavenly. However, the floor gets super cold and snow/ice kept crashing to the deck since the igloo was warming up on the inside and melting the snow. We eventually got used to the sound, but the first few times really startled us.
The advertisement for this place stated that aurora calls would be made - we never received a call. I was lucky enough to check outside to see if the aurora was out and noticed it. By the time my daughter was dressed to go outside, the lights were gone. The lights at this place were one of the specific reasons I booked this igloo since she was visiting from Georgia. Sadly, without the call to notify us they were out, we missed them. There is also not a large window that you can see the lights out of. The window is small and mostly covered with ice - so it was useless.
They also advertise a walking path around the reindeer enclosure. What they don't tell you is that the path is not maintained and the snow was VERY deep. I, thankfully, had some snow shoes and we were able to walk around with those. But I noticed other guests struggling to walk in the deep snow. We would have walked longer, but the thick snow was a problem, even with the snowshoes.
Finally, they advertise a french press, but don't note that there is no other option for coffee except for one small pack of instant coffee. My daughter didn't know how to use a french press and when she looked at a video to see how to make it, she determined we didn't have the time to make a cup of coffee. Even if we did, there were only two tiny coffee cups, and no to-go cups. A small Keurig would have gone a long way to making the morning better.
Overall, this was a disappointing trip and absolutely not worth the $360/night fee. I do not...
Read moreWe've been to Fairbanks before but for this trip, we wanted to something out of the city and remote so we can just "disconnect" from everyday life and enjoy the northern lights and each other's company. We originally looked at another company that's well known in the area (BB) but found the price to be out of our reach. After doing some searches for alternatives I found Pleasant Acres Reindeer Ranch and was immediately impressed with everything I found online. The only thing that made me hesitant was that it was relatively new and haven't had much reviews yet; but the reviews they had were nothing but perfect. I decided to take a flyer and I'm 1000% happy with my choice. The communication we received leading up to check in was clear and informative. Arrival went exactly as planned; keypad on the door and they even started the heater up for us. We arrived when the weather was below 20F and with fresh snow on the ground, everything was so picture perfect. They had everything we could possible need. We were especially appreciative of the comfortable chairs on the deck, the coffee press, the fully stocked kitchen with a bunch of complementary snacks and the numerous outlets around. The bathroom was very spacious and the shower pressure/size/and temp was amazing. The internet speed and reliability was top notch as well. We hit up Costco on the way to the Yurt and loaded up with snacks and spent the entire night cuddling up inside the unit and running outside every 30mins to check the night sky for lights. Unfortunately we weren't able to see anything due to almost complete cloud coverage but we had a blast just enjoying each others company but still haven't every creature comfort we are used to in such a private location. This experience was worth every penny and I plan on...
Read moreIt is currently -30 degrees F outside our igloo. Inside we are so toasty! Last night we kept falling asleep early but thankfully our host would text us as the aurora was hitting its high points. We saw it glow most of the night over the pasture of reindeer off the deck. We thought we'd go outside to watch but that sounded like torture so we watched out the window! The attached photo of the lights was taken from INSIDE the igloo. What an incredible place. The heater works GREAT, the bed is comfy, the water is immediately so hot, the little kitchen has more than we expected (gas range, fridge, french press with coffee, tea, SNACKS, excellent tasting water, and microwave) the water pressure in the shower feels like twice what we have in CA, the directions are clear, it's spotless, the parking is easy, there is an outlet to plug in your rental car, and the reindeer are entertaining at sunset. The pizza place down the road is fine, easy to re-heat the next day. Know the light for the bathroom is the little circle ON the mirror. The night light is adjustable if you want something more dim than the overheads. Bringing slippers isn't a bad idea. Host is fantastic. Definitely stay here to see the northern lights in comfort! We watched Netflix with the fast wifi no problem. This was a perfect place to start our...
