We were on our way to Chena Hot Springs Resort when we realized we were hungry again. We were visiting from Ohio and at this point in our trip, we gave in to the fact that Alaska (in winter) has a funny way of making you feel like you're always hungry. We found Two Rivers Outpost in our travels and decided to try it out.
I can't say enough about this place and the food. From the second you walk in, it feels like you're entering someone's home. You're greeted with a smile and a simple menu. The prices are noticably less than anywhere else we visited.
The grilled ham and cheese was very good. The best one I had in Alaska. The same goes for the chicken noodle soup. It was hearty and the perfect temperature.
We saw a dog sled team eating inside, while chatting away. We noticed their dogs resting in a pickup truck in the parking lot. The outpost serves as the first or last checkpoint (depending on direction) for the Yukon Quest, which is an international, 1000 miles long, dog sled race.
There are several areas inside where you can sit and relax, or lounge on one of their couches, or even play a board game. They have coloring books and games for the kids.
