Stayed at Flying Saddle recently, and feel it necessary to share my experience, as it was the most unpleasant “hospitality” experience I have ever endured traveling.
We paid for a premium “river view” room, checked in, and then went to the on-site restaurant for dinner. Food was good quality and prepared well. Our server Chelsea was very attentive and polite.
Upon returning to our room for the evening, I had a question about TV issue and called front desk for assistance. Resolved. A few minutes later, I wanted to open the slider to enjoy the breeze and river view, and noticed the screen door was off and laying against the railing. I called front desk again to inform them it was broken, to ensure it was noted that this did not happen during our stay. I was told by the woman at the front desk that “there’s a few problems with my room” that they’re aware of. I joked about trying to fix it and hung up.
Why was I booked into a room with known problems when there were plenty others available?
My girlfriend went to the lobby for some shampoo and conditioner, and asked if the hotel would discount the room from $159 premium rate, to the $129 standard room rate, as we could not open the door and enjoy the amenities we paid extra for. She explained she was told the hotel “does not give discounts” and was instead told we could change rooms. She returned with keys to another room. At this point it’s past 10pm and I am in bed trying to get rest, so we called the desk and let them know we would not be changing rooms (way too much hassle at this point)...the front desk hung up the phone on. At this point we thought it was over.
Front desk woman called back minutes later demanding to me that I “bring the keys back down to the desk”. I responded that I am in bed trying to sleep. She said angrily that they’d come up and get them. I asked my girl to slide them under the door so they could be picked up without disturbing us, as we’re in bed with lights out.
Within minutes she is outside our door, pounding extremely loudly. If she was trying to send a message, she did. The message was “we”, the paying customer, is an inconvenience to her, and that she felt it acceptable to be hostile toward guests.
It gets worse...minutes later, the front desk started calling our room and hanging up. I had to unplug the phone...not kidding, I could not make this up.
This is beyond ridiculous, unacceptable and appalling. Never in my life would I expect this type of treatment from a hospitality establishment.
The woman working the desk that night should NOT be interfacing with customers.
Would have given a one-star review, but the restaurant staff and food impressed.

Read moreArrived at this hotel and was pleasantly surprised. Good sized room with two sinks and a decent shower. Two comfortable large beds with clean linen. There is a hair dryer, an iron fridge microwave, and a coffee maker. The room is dated with dark carpet and curtains, wood chip wallpaper, and the furniture was a bit shabby, but generally we were pleased with the room. Where it went very, very wrong was when we went for dinner. The tour company had reserved tables for us several days before at set times, depending upon whether we had done the rafting down Snake River. We turned up at our set time, and there was a sign saying wait to be seated, but there was nobody around. We saw the 6 person reserved table so assumed we should just seat ourselves. Nobody came to see us for 30 minutes, and when they did, we were told in no uncertain terms that we shouldn't have seated ourselves and that they didn't know we were there. How the waitress didn't see six of us in a small restaurant is astonishing. The waitress took our order and we waited another 30 minutes for our drinks and water. After an hour and a half, we were served our starters, which were fine, and then the main courses arrived on hot plates. That was the only thing that was hot! The beautiful filet mignon with garlic mash and broccoli was stone cold. We asked for the bill, and they had added a 20% service charge £27.90. We agreed that we would pay the charge but wanted to speak to a manager to complain about the service and a very aggressive man arrived who basically said it was all our fault for seating ourselves and that we had to pay. We said we never intended not to pay as we didn't want the waitress to be penalised but wanted to complain, and he just shouted and treated us abominably. Virtually the whole group complained. Some walked out and ended up not eating. Others waited to be seated for over 30 minutes, and others like us got into heated discussions with this obnoxious man. The whole day was spoilt. Any decent company would have not only refunded the service charge but refunded the cost of the meal. Do not eat here,...
Read moreThis was our second time eating at the Flying Saddle restaurant. This time we were smart and made reservations. We arrived on time and were seated right away. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Tuesday night at 7p.m. We were given water immediately by a very friendly and sweet server named Cheyenne. We looked over the menu and we were waited on by another server whose name was pretty, but uncommon, so sadly I've forgotten it, but it started with a J. Maybe it was Janissa? We waited a bit and then our salads and bread came out. The bread were some kind of roll that had a bit of sweetness to it, they were very good. The salads were also tasty, I had the cesar and my husband had the garden salad. He liked the blue cheese dressing, said it wasn't too tangy.
Our meals arrived in a timely manner. I had the chicken parmesan which is a ton of food! You could definitely share it. The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. The marinara sauce on top had a good flavor and there was cheese everywhere! My husband had the rib eye and it was delicious, cooked perfectly and it had great flavor.
Finally we had dessert. The Key lime pie which was outstanding. Creamy with the zing of lime, but not overpowering. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the brownie and ice cream. The brownie was more like a cake in texture, and the flavor of it was just average. I wouldn't order it again. I'm more of a fudgey brownie kind of girl.
The only other downside was that we were never given refills on our water the entire time we were there and that was the only thing we had to drink, so that was a little disappointing as well.
Our experience overall was great. We left satisfied and very full. We will...
