I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN - Despite my 2/5* rating, primarily due to my specific circumstances during this stay. But I am committed to being completely transparent with my reviews. I will start with the cons since that is likely what will interest most folks.
CONS: The shower head is not very high up - those of us (like myself) whoa re 6 ft tall of above will need to bend over/duck/squat to properly wash. HOT WATER - this is more of a warning than a con but it cannot be stressed enough. The shower hot water gets SCALDING hot, like, McDonald's lawsuit hot, and QUICK. Be EXTREMELY careful when showering and make sure the temperature is properly adjusted before hopping in! Someone else's hair was plastered to the wall when I arrived... The pool was not open. Maybe this is due to the season, but there was no sign specifying that the pool was closed and there was no cover on the pool itself. It was full of water and, if heated, I'm sure would have been a great night leisure activity that I'd have enjoyed very much. The WIFI did not work. I was provided a password, written on my room cardholder, but the WIFI connection itself was set to "open" and there was no way to prompt the password. This forced me to use my phone's hotspot during my stay. The TV... did not work well. The TV would not power on via the remote OR via the physical button on the TV itself until I had pressed it well over a dozen times. Additionally, the buttons on the remote would not always work, and would only do so once I pressed them countless times. Most of the buttons on the TV itself did not work. I could not change the channel at all! When I tried, a message appeared on the TV telling me "Not available". What the heck is that!? The room's primary light did not work (switch next to the door). Only the lamps near the beds, the TV, and the lights in/near the bathroom. The room had not been entirely cleaned - there was a collection of dust, crumbs, and who knows what else between the nightstand and one of the beds. The chair... oh my god the chair. The rolling chair that was left beneath the table beside the TV... This thing will not roll unless you threaten it. It is so old and/or so worn that it will not stay upright - if you sit in it, you are forced to recline. It is not comfortable at all. There is no way to accommodate anyone with this chair. The toilet seat lid was somewhat loose and could easily slide around. Less of a con and more of a warning: The toilet paper is 1-ply (as it is in most hotels/motels). Prepare to use a lot. No dedicated housekeeping. If you need housekeeping services, you should notify the staff ahead of time.
PROS: I received a courtesy call from the staff that they close the lobby at 9PM so to ensure I arrive and check-in before then. If arriving after 9, they should be informed so they can work out a plan to check you in when you arrive later. Booking the room was simple an easy. Checking into the room was simple and easy. I had my room key and was in my room within minutes. Parking for each room is convenient and there are plenty of spots available. The room itself was clean and well maintained aside from the crumbs and hair mentioned above. The beds were comfortable. There is a microwave in the room, which I almost never see anywhere else anymore. This is a simple and amazing feature which I was thankful for. It worked well, too! The mini-fridge is a great size and can hold a fair amount of food/drink. The bathroom (aside from the hair) was extremely clean and well maintained, with fresh soap, shampoo, body wash, towels, toilet paper, etc. The shower, despite being small, was quick to heat and extremely powerful! This made showering quick and easy, wasting less time and water. There is a coffee machine. It can only fit one small cup. Unfortunately I am not a coffee drinker so I can't speak to how well it works or if it did.
Despite all of this, it did not negatively impact my stay, and I would gladly visit again in similar circumstances, though hopefully with...
Read moreThe Wi-Fi works well, and the rooms appear to have been recently remodeled. That’s the only reason to give the Travelodge by Wyndham Angels Camp any stars at all.
We walked in to find the woman at the front desk behind plastic barriers and wearing a mask. So far, so good. As we finish our check in and get the paperwork, she takes off her mask (behind the plastic but still a bad move on her part) and tells us that the office closes at 8:00 PM and no one will be available after that time. These two things should have been a warning. Taking off the mask disturbed us enough that we sprayed Lysol on every surface of the room as a precaution.
At 8:15 PM the toilet clogged. Tried to call the front desk but as expected the phone rang constantly. No message telling us who to contact if there was a problem we couldn’t solve, nothing. Just constant ringing. I jumped in the car and tried to find a place that sold toilet plungers but no luck. The Ace Hardware store closed at 8, and places that were open that might have stocked toilet plungers were either closed or had empty shelves.
After an uncomfortable night I called the front desk to ask them to send a toilet plunger to our room. A man with a foul attitude handed it to me without a word. No mask to be seen. Another spray of Lysol on the plunger to try to protect myself.
Finally got the repair done and after a night of “holding it” we could use the facilities.
We tossed everything in the car and noticed housekeeping knocking on doors and opening them. Again, no mask.
The Travelodge by Wyndham Angels Camp management needs to up their game to allow customers to contact them in case of room issues. That would have gotten them 3 stars if not for the issue with maskless employees.
The Travelodge by Wyndham Angels Camp does not use or enforce procedures to safeguard guests’ health during the pandemic. Employees interacting with guests and going into rooms maskless makes me wonder what other shortcuts they’re taking and basic procedures that they’re ignoring.
Hopefully spraying Lysol on all surfaces was sufficient, but we’ll be monitoring our health closely for the next...
Read moreI have been here awhile and did enjoy my stay, initially. Angels Camp is a great area. Nice staff but definitely a quirky place. Many commercial workers stay here so many many trucks in the parking lot. In dealing with difficult mail delivery, no Amazon delivery, zip code confusion and remote connectivity problems is just to say the lease of problems. No room phone service for months , WiFi connection can be subpar and nonfunctional for days, at times. Being told to rely on your own hotspot is not accommodating customers nor really attempting to fix it.||Room maintenance is not bad, but it is not on a steady schedule unless you ask for it. They have a tendency to forget to service the room on a designated weekly schedule day, especially since the handyman is part of the housekeeping team.... dual roles dual jobs. Personal staff problems interfere with the integrity of the management of the hotel and are reflective within the operations. ||And recently, price gouging of room rates. Too high of a price difference with longer stays. Management states it's only $10.00 . But a price difference from 1500.00 to 2400.00 to 2790.00 for extended stays, is not a 10.00 price difference. And a rate increase from 99.00 to 145.00 w/i two days is not staying w/i the price continuity. ||A recent conversation with a close hotel stated that they have had numerous guests from Wyndham at their hotel, due to nonfunctional keys and no one available by phone to fix the problem. Therefore, locked out guests had to change hotels because no one would answer a phone to remedy the problem for the guest......Definitely noted w a nonfunctioning phone number to call and management living on hotel site but not making themselves available. ||Guests are asked to leave the premises if the hotel integrity is altered. But, the |management is not totally functioning for hotel guests continuity. Many internal management conflicts with staff...
