There aren't too many places to get food in Angels Camp, but this place looked promising. After all it is usually hard to go wrong with Chinese food. Well, this was an interesting experience. We ordered ahead and they were pleasant and got the order correct. When I arrived to pick up, I was pretty surprised to see people dining indoors, but whatever it is a small town in a small county. I took our take out and when I got back to our place my wife and I were shocked that there were no utensils, napkins, or sauce included in the take out. This was a first for us, especially with Chinese food. I ended up having to go back out to get the utensils needed. Onto the food part. The chow mein was pretty good, the noodles were thick and the flavor was what I enjoy, but the veggies were lacking despite being a veggie chow mein order. Our fried rice was pretty on par, but there were sections of rice that were still completely white and unseasoned which was weird. The peking beef was probably the highlight of the meal, but was still pretty disappointing since it was advertised as spicy(it wasn't). General chicken was pretty good, but just super sweet instead of being spicy as advertised. On the bright sight their hot and sour soup portion was generous and packed full of flavor. The soup tasted like it had cooked for hours and had a bone broth like feeling to it, packed with tofu, mushrooms and chicken along with various other ingredients. Overall not great, but not bad either. I wish they would serve spicy food when they say it is spicy and not including utensils of some sort on a take out order with soup and noodles is very strange.

Generous portions, rich flavor, and attentive service. However the dishes were a little on the oily side for how I like my Chinese food. This places looks like it is a locals favorite for Chinese food though. We enjoyed dishes from the lunch menu which was fairly priced.

My outdoor adventure group regularly has dinner at the Far East Restaurant. We enjoy the food and the ability to meet there. The staff is always friendly and fun to joke with. We've even had massages at the restaurant. A must visit business in Angels Camp.

I AM A LOCAL. NOT A WEEKEND WARRIOR. WE HAVE LIVED UP IN THIS AREA FOR OVER 14 YRS. WE USED TO LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. BEST SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN....NOW...

HORRIBLE....BUT, GET THIS....

THE "MANAGER'S" NAME IS TIM. IDIOT BEYOND MEANS. I AM BUYING TAKE OUT ON THE PHONE. ABOUT $80 WORTH. ASK HIM TO PUT IN A BOWL OF WONTON. A SMALL BOWL OF WONTON SOUP. THEY DID IT BEFORE. HE TELLS ME HE IS GOING TO CHARGE ME. WHAT???? REFUSES TO COMP...

A BOWL OF WONTON!!! A CUP....A LITTLE BOWL!!!!!!! I EXPLAIN...IF I ORDER THE DINNER FOR 8 PEOPLE..I GET WONTON..YES? "YOU NEED TO ORDER THAT"....OTHERWISE, I CHARGE YOU...." OMG!!!!! I SAY FORGET IT.

THEN....

MY FRIENDS COME BACK WITH THE ORDER. OTHER FRIENDS COME OVER. SEVERAL PEOPLE ASK ME, "WHY DID YOU ORDER THESE WONTONS WITH CREAM CHEESE....THEY ARE GROSS!!" I DIDN'T ORDER THOSE. CALL "TIM"...HE SAYS..."I READ BACK YOUR ORDER" (THAT IS IN A FOB VOICE...WHICH MY ONE FRIEND DID...HE WAS LAUGHING AND MADE FUN OF "TIM"..AND IS CHINESE FOR ANYONE GETTING ALL BUTT HURT)....I HAVE TO SPELL OUT WORDS TO "TIM". I EXPLAIN TO HIM...THE GUY WHO CAN'T COMP AN ORDER OF WONTON AND CHARGES ME FOR WONTONS WITH CREAM CHEESE...AND THEN ACCUSES ME OF "WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING?"....I HAVE A SPEECH IMPEDIMENT...THANK YOU VERY MUCH...SORRY, BUT I DON'T WANT TO SPELL...S.P.E.E.CH...YOU GET IT..LOL

IF YOU WANT GREAT CHINESE FOOD...

DON'T GO HERE. I WILL SAY IT AGAIN....DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

GO TO VALLEY SPRINGS..."GOOD FRIENDS". MUCH BETTER, VERY FRIENDLY SERVICE, GREAT PRICES....AND DECENT SUSHI ROLLS. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME.

AND, IF YOU GO....DON'T HAVE "TIM" SERVE YOU, OR ASK FOR A COMP OF WONTON SOUP FOR ALMOST A $100 ORDER. WE WERE SCARED TO EAT OUR FOOD AFTER DEALING WITH HIM. AND OUR FRIENDS ARE GOING TO WRITE A REVIEW LATER.

"TIM"...GREAT JOB....I HEAR THAT BURGER KING IS HIRING. JUST KIDDING. THEY TOO, HAVE NICE PEOPLE WORKING THERE.

BTW...TELLS ME OWNERS NAME IS "TAY". TOOK 2 MINUTES TO GET HIM TO UNDERSTAND WHAT I WAS ASKING. HAD TO SPELL IT.

BUT, IN ALL FAIRNESS, CAN'T BE TOTAL TO BLAME WITH MY SPEECH PROBLEM. JUST TRYING TO BE UNDERSTANDING. NAW...HE IS...

My understanding is that this restaurant is under new ownership in made few months. Tonight was my second visit, first being over a year ago. It was SPECTACULAR tonight, levels up from my visit a year ago. Clean inside, great service without being pushy (and my menu questions were answered happily as well as politely. I was unable to make a substitution on a special but it was handled very nicely and I only ended up ordering MORE!) and the food was ALL PHENOMINAL! We had potstickers as an appetizer and an $18.95 full meal each, which included Sweet n Sour Pork, Chicken n Cashews w/Veggies, Pork Fried Rice, Soup, Egg Rolls and Wontons. We...
