First the parts of the Expedia listed property amenities that are false. There is not internet available in all rooms despite the claim that there is. In the rooms away from the front desk the internet connection is lost every minute and reconnects a minute or two later. This is not a reliable connection and is more annoying than no connection at all. I called the provider, Suddenlink, and they are only responsible for the router that supplies the lobby and not the repeater for the rooms farther away. Hotel management ignored the request to fix the internet issue on the RedRoof equipment. There is a free continental breakfast if you are satisfied with essentially the cheapest possible packaged breakfast type snacks that are heated with a toaster. There might be coffee, water for tea, bagels in a package, even waffles in a package but any or all of these will be missing on any day. The hot water is always lukewarm and tastes of coffee meaning that the dispenser isn't cleaned from the day before. You might find a waffle in a cello wrap package but you probably won't find any syrup. Bagels?, you'll be lucky if you find cream cheese. If you want a plate to put this stuff on you better have a backup using napkins if there are any left. Interestingly, there is a full kitchen large enough to handle a large group but there is not a pan or utensil in sight so it must be completely nonfunctional. There is only one item that is currently working and its a toaster. There is no microwave that you can use and only a few rooms actually have a microwave.Daily Housekeeping. Yes there is daily housekeeping in the building but our room had housekeeping only once during a 4 night stay despite multiple requests for cleaning our room. Daily housekeeping means every room gets cleaned so this amenity claim is false. They might have an excuse that the hotel is under renovations but there wasn't anybody repairing anything. They have a conference area that is filled with new toilet parts but these appeared to be just stored parts. Our toilet needed repair with a loose seat was but nothing was done. The tub had a clog that prevented it from draining in less than a few hours. The bathroom door was poorly fitted to the frame with large uneven gaps near the floor with chunks taken out of the wood and frame. This was just painted over. I've seen better outhouses. If you want to hang up your clothes you better bring your own hangers and a place to put them since there are no hangers. There really isn't much of a place to hang them except for a very small shelf near the ironing board next to the bed.The halls are extremely dirty with ancient carpeting. While we were there there must have been a sick dog somewhere because there was multiple spots where a dog had vomited several times. It was lucky that the vomit was close to the exit doors that had windows. If the vomit was more inside the building then the poor lighting would have made it impossible to avoid stepping in the mess.We were told that all of the exit doors except the lobby entrance didn't work from the outside. Indeed, the card swipe entry had been disabled except for the first day and everyone was unable enter through the doors closest to their room. Instead of making the hotel more secure (everyone has to enter through the front desk area..?) it made it much less secure. This is because without a working reader people would prop the door open. Now anyone can enter. Additionally, if you tried the card reader when it wasn't working it would erase your key card and you would have to get a new one to get back into your room.Getting a new entry card or anything from the front desk was difficult because the staff was always away from the front desk. I'm assuming they were always out fixing guest problems that had to be much more frequent than a typical hotel.I hope you get the picture. Go here if you like camping but not...
Read moreA family member passed away recently and my mother needed a ride to the funeral. The drive back home was about 16 hours. Not too long, but I wanted a place to sleep and therefore ended up booking this place. I am a college student, not the most financially stable, and this appeared to be the cheapest option. I had planned to arrive at the hotel around 1 a.m. but due to unpredicted circumstances, I ended up arriving at the hotel around 5 a.m. Nevertheless, I was insanely tired and looking forward to sleeping on a bed. Upon my arrival, the hotel was locked which was extremely disappointing and irritating, but I figured it had to be done for safety reasons. There was also a homeless lady walking around the outside of the hotel yelling at what appeared to be nothing. I paid little attention to her since she didn't seem to be a threat to my safety. After a couple of minutes, a young woman opened the door for me and my mother. She appeared to be in a bad mood and had an attitude. I found it unprofessional, but I tried to pay no attention to it as I just wanted to get to bed. The young woman then proceeded to tell me I hadn't made a reservation. After a couple of minutes of back and forth communication and her being rude for no reason, she finally found my reservation! but proceeded to tell me I had to make a $100 deposit. Again, I'm a broke college student and this was an extreme inconvenience. I ended up using my credit card and got my room keys. The hallways smelled like urine and weed. The bed-sheets, pillowcases, towels, and shower curtain had stains. Some of the hygiene products in the bathroom were opened and had clearly been used. Sleep was very poor due to people in the hallways and other rooms being very loud. Check out time was 11 a.m. so I had planned to get up around 09:30 a.m. so I could shower and get ready for the day but ended up being awoken sooner than that because a random stranger barged into my room and demanded me to tell her what time it was. She appeared to be homeless and either be on drugs or have a mental problem. At this point, I had no expectations for this place so I gave her the time and continued with my day. I went to the front desk to check out and a stranger greeted me in the hallway and told me he would be back in a bit. When I arrived at the front desk there was no one there and concluded that this was why the stranger in the hallway had said what he said to me. When he came back he was very pleasant and proceeded to check me out. I realize this is a very long review, but I thought it was worth sharing since I don't often have such bad...
Read moreJust sharing my experience with my stay at red roof inn arcata, ca on 7/10/21. Upon checking in (or attempting too) was informed that "the system" was down and I needed to return in an hour. Asked what there was to do around the hotel, was laughed at and told there was food across the street. Returned at 4, to the front desk person (Pauline) making reservations for a woman in front of me. The front desk person didn't know the address of the hotel when the woman asked. Nor did she have a print out for the woman who made reservations. When I got to the counter, she checked me in and told me there was a $100 deposit fee, which there was no warning of on the website when I booked the hotel. Asked why it was so high with no warning or information on the booking. She just told me that "all" hotels charge deposits....I have been on a 5 day vacation and this is the ONLY hotel that has charged a deposit of more than $1 for security. Not only was she kinda rude and said "well even Motel 6 charges a deposit" and our rates are better. (They aren't) but while checking me in and finishing up with the paperwork she told her daughter to plug in her phone because it was going to die soon. She then had her daughter prepare our keys in which she announced our room number to the whole lobby. She gave me the key and didn't bother telling me where the room was located in the hotel, I had to ask. When I finally got into the room, it smelled heavily of room air freshener and one of the two beds were not completely made and missing the top sheet that completes the bedding cover. I've stayed in many if motels and hotels from roadside "trucker" motels to 4 and 5 star hotels. This by far was one of the most horrible experiences I have had and I haven't even slept yet. Returned to the front desk at 7pm to report the missing sheet and ask for a extra blanket. Ashley (the new front desk attendant) was extremely helpful and accommodating. She recorded the missing sheet and looked for a blanket. She couldn't find any extra blanket, not a single spare blanket in the entire hotel. The hotel is in complete disrepair, screws holding the exterior door handle, flooring coming up in our room, pet hair and trash on the carpet in the hall stairs, a bag of trash in the hall next to our room, and lint all over the one made bed in our room. The pictures of the rooms don't even match the room at all. The McDonald's wifi next door is better than the wifi provided by the hotel.
