I was really excited about the stay partly because I had a great booking experience directly with the hotel. The person I spoke with was very professional and helpful.
Before giving my review I did meet many people that were there for a return trip so this is merely a subjective review that should be balanced with others before making your decision.
Pros: the garden is beautiful, the rooms are very private and beautiful. I loved the fireplace and the outdoor patio. The rooms were quiet and you really do receive a great amount of privacy from other visitors. Our bathroom was also nice with a large soaking tub and separate shower. Cleanliness gets an A+ as well. There were neat meditation rooms, and at breakfast you get a beautiful view of the garden and you can hit the gong before starting your day.
We also had no problems accessing the internet in our room. Lastly, there is excellent access to the city and to the Biltmore.
Cons: there is no phone in your room to contact the front desk and there are no ice machines. The rooms are breezy and could use weather stripping. We stayed on the second floor and there is so much overgrowth on the patio that we didn’t have a view of the garden from our room or from our outdoor patio. The patio also had mold on it. There are no TVs. The breakfast was horrible, and you pay $3.00/piece for muffins and biscuits. We ended up going to breakfast at McDonald’s in Biltmore Village and had a fabulous time dancing and singing along with McDonald’s grand piano.
The mile trail is not a mile and it is the ugliest trail I’ve been on. Note, they show no trail pics. It’s basically a root- mud trail with weedy undergrowth. Also, once you exit the garden there is a dried up man made brook that goes into what is now a stale pond perfect for mosquitoes. Overall the grounds are not well maintained.
There were almost no classes and the one we went to was provided by a sub. Additionally, we showed up 10 mins early on our first night and we were denied access to the class that was about to be in session. We were told they didn’t accept people that were late. We walked by where the class was supposed to be held and no one was there. There was no class. We would’ve preferred to have been told the truth that the class was cancelled. In addition, the next day in our class multiple people came in late.
There is no jacuzzi, spa or relaxation area of that sort so don’t bring a swimsuit. If you are into that type of relaxation you can access grove park in’s beautiful spa for $85/day.
There is also no one onsite promoting meditation or a healthy lifestyle and/ pamphlets for bettering your well-being so go with your own personal knowledge and agenda in hand.
My overall impression is I think the hotel is very relaxing and neat but I would’ve enjoyed grounds that were better maintained, more class options and a...
Read moreSo beautiful! I was a little apprehensive after reading some reviews, but OH MY! This place is perfect! I'm from NY and I visit Omega institute and BLUE CLIFF monestary, so I was expecting rustic.. Not at all! OM is upscale and clean and beautiful. We are not he Tomas Pearson room and I am sure it's the best room in the place, but everything else I've seen is beautiful too. We took the morning chi gong class,(i wish it was every morning) he was terrific.(my husband and I are beginners) I left that class feeling uplifted and energized.(the tai chi class was like taking a meditation with daffy duck ..ugh) Breakfast had everything from local fresh sausage and bacon to chia pudding! Vegan, gluten free options! It was really nice that breakfast. Is 8-930 and then the class start after..nice not to have to set an alarm clock. Don't hesitate! OM is less expesive then most hotels here and if you don't want to leave, you can spend the day!!! Only 15 minutes from the heart of downtown Asheville. I've enclosed some photos..yes my bed is slept...
Read moreWe stayed at Om because it was reasonably priced on a weekend when little in town was. It was very convenient to downtown and set on beautiful grounds. We loved our cabin with the little gas fireplace. The cabin/room was fantastic. It was roomy, homey, relaxing. It had a porch to sit on (too cold this time). The value was outstanding. ||||We didn't take advantage of the yoga and other classes but it's wholly optional.||||The only negative I can offer about it was the breakfast. It's only served for an hour (8 - 9) which can make it challenging to get to. Oddly, despite its back-to-nature sort of theme, they had fake hotel scrambled eggs (you know what I mean) which shocked me. It was otherwise acceptable. ||||Still, we didn't stay there for the free breakfast and gladly ate elsewhere the next day. The folks who worked there were all very nice and you just can't find a place with more beautiful grounds and cozy cabins for reasonable prices even at peak season. Highly recommend. Would...
