My husband and I recently had the great pleasure of spending a couple of nights in the Marion room of The Lion and the Rose B + B. We searched for a room on the way to Asheville on a spontaneous getaway sans kids. We literally booked about 30 minutes before our arrival and Karen, the owner, greeted us as though she’d been expecting us for months. We had brownies waiting in our room which was very clean and well maintained - a place of respite. The daybed in the bay window serves as a comfy couch to watch a little TV as you wind down from the day’s adventures. The gas fireplace is on a timer and quickly warms the room while adding nice ambiance. There’s a nice little private en-suite bath with stand up shower on the room as well. The best part is the bed though! It’s very comfortable - no squeaking even though it’s a beautiful antique - and a hybrid type mattress that doesn’t sleep so hot as many of the newer mattresses do. The sheets are super soft and they’ve provided multiple layers to sleep under for you to determine your perfect temp. (The windows also open freely to let a little fresh air in if you overdo it with the fireplace.) ||Karen and Steve are gracious hosts and you feel very welcome and comfortable touring around the home. You have access to all the common spaces including a back pantry that’s full of sodas, snacks, ice and refrigerator. The breakfasts are chef’s kiss delicious! A lot of people go to Asheville for the food and Steve hangs with the best of them in their offerings at the inn - we had orange ricotta pancakes which were light and fluffy and griddled banana bread and egg soufflé - yum! We even got to partake of his home brewed beer in our first ever beer-mosa (their take on a mimosa). It was a great treat so try it if they offer it! ||Their home is located in the historic Montford neighborhood of Asheville - minutes from all the fun of the downtown area. If it hadn’t been so chilly we could’ve easily walked downtown for dinner and our visit to the French Broad Chocolate lounge. As it was, we did drive over and park without a problem. Karen is also a great resource for hikes, food, things to do all around the area. They couldn’t be more accommodating! You definitely feel as though you’ve made new friends once you’ve been in their home. Both Karen and Steve are down to earth while also making you feel like you’re a distinguished guest with full coffee service waiting outside your door first thing in the morning. We definitely hope to go back and stay in the third floor mega...
Read moreWe cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay at the Lion & the Rose. We visit Asheville regularly and have stayed in many B&Bs. The Lion & the Rose exceeded our expectations. We will be staying there again & again in the future.
The owners, Karen & her Husband, were so welcoming & friendly. They made sure our stay was a beautiful one.
We stayed in the Marion Hall Room, which was lovely, spacious, with a very authentic feel. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and the in room working fireplace was a wonderful and romantic addition to the room. Great size bathroom and a lovely tiled shower. Cozy sitting area with a tv and DVD player if you’re staying in for the evening. Also they have a cabinet right outside of the room fillled with movies you can watch.
In the morning hot coffee waits outside your room so that you can have a few sips before going down to breakfast which is just lovely. Breakfast. Oh my. Soooooo Good. I’m a picky eater but like to also try foods prepared in new ways. And the my Husband is a super adventurous eater. Both mornings the breakfast was divine. Cheesy potato waffles & bacon...yeah...yum. And then ham wrapped fried eggs & pancakes the next day...Heaven. We enjoyed the breakfast fully.
As for the Lion & the Rose B&B aesthetically ❤️ Such a beautiful place to stay with so much history everywhere you look. The woodwork, art, books, the decor, all of the interior & exterior etc...if you’re looking for a stay with that authentic historical feel, this place has it all.
Put this wonderful gem at the top of your “must stay there” list. You will not be disappointed.
Lol, well I wrote a whole travel guide it looks like but I did say that we couldn’t say enough good things about The Lion & the Rose. And I could probably say more...
Anyhow. No question, Wonderful...
Read moreI am not sure how anyone could stay here and give a review less than five. This B & B is located in the historic Montford District, which is just lovely. From the moment you enter you feel like your visiting family. The Lion and the Rose and it's owners are so warm and inviting. We stayed in the Marion room and it was just beautiful. It was a very spacious room with a daybed for third person if need be. Very well appointed room. There is coffee every morning on the second floor landing by 7 a.m. and the breakfast are to die for. So delicious!!!! Lisa and Madelyn were very accommodating with our schedule. One morning my husband was not able to make breakfast as he was going golfing and they made him breakfast to go. The day of our departure they were also very accommodating to allow us to eat a bit earlier than the normal time so we could eat before getting on the road. There is water, soda, tea, snacks and homemade cookies available 24/7. Also available are wine glasses and cork screw for you to enjoy a bottle of wine in your room, downstairs or outside on the inviting porch or fire pit area. In addition to the grounds of this B & B being so beautiful and tranquil, it is also very close to downtown Asheville. If your up to walking it is about 1.2 mile. The visitor center is about 1/2 miles and offers a trolley tour to which you can hop on and hop off at any stop, which I highly recommend. For the past 10+ years we have been going to blowing rock but we loved this place so much we are going to be making this our yearly place to visit going forward. We are already booked to return in October. Why stay in a stale hotel when you can enjoy a more homey feel of a B & B. The Lion and the...
