In need of a breakfast spot that was actually open on Sundays, All Day Darling proved a fortuitous find. The bustling, light-filled environment and focus on Southern-influenced dishes reminded me of a superior version of the old Iron Hen in Greensboro. Though All Day Darling does keep busy, its line to the register (place your order, grab a number – they are friendly and efficient here) moves quickly, and there is plenty of seating. While I was tempted to order shakshuka, travel with something that heavy on my stomach seamed unwise, so I opted for The Standard (breakfast sandwich with a fried egg and herb mayo) with ham on a roll instead and paired it with a Golden Mocha (chocolate, turmeric, ginger, cardamon). My wife went with a Standard with avocado on a biscuit, and we split a piece of banana bread. All of the food cleared expectations. The breads and biscuits live up to their homemade billing. The creamy herb mayo was the perfect complement to the salty ham. The banana bread was as good as any I have ever made. Despite its bevy of components, the Golden Mocha was well-balanced and went down easy. All Day Darling is the kind of place where it would seem hard to go wrong. The next time we’re in Asheville, we’ll be back.

We stopped by All Day Darling in Asheville for breakfast and had a great experience. I ordered the standard breakfast with bacon and scrambled eggs—simple, but done right. The real surprise? The toast. It looked like it had been pan-fried in butter, and whatever their secret is, it was absolutely delicious. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, with healthy drink options and a barista on hand to satisfy your caffeine cravings. We arrived around 9 a.m. and, despite a short line, only waited about five minutes to order. Our food came out in under 10 minutes—super efficient for a busy morning. Street parking is a bit limited, but manageable if you're patient. All in all, a solid breakfast spot that hits the mark on food, service, and atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Asheville!

A charming little neighborhood cafe. Completely not what I was expecting, either. I was expecting a bougie everything but was pleasantly surprised to see graffiti in the bathroom and stations for self-bussing or collecting silverware. It's super hands off. The line builds up quickly but goes fast, also. Grab a menu and figure out what you want because before you know it you'll be at the front. Their tots are A+. Their breakfast sandwiches are good. The lack of flexibility in ordering is unexpected. They don't have tomatoes, for example. Not a deal breaker, just unexpected considering everything else they have. The coffee is also good. You can tell there are frequent flyers who come here, probably daily. Very loyal following. It's cute, just not fully my vibe, and that's ok.

Please note: This review is for those who want to eat here after 2:00 PM on an easygoing Saturday. In short, neither my friends nor I have ever experienced a series of dishes where the confliction of mediocrity and excellence graced our palates. Maybe it was an off-day for the restaurant, or maybe they don't maintain quality all-day (ain't that ironic, darling?). Either or, we were incredibly underwhelmed.

With each of our varying dietary needs, we each had different dishes: House Granola, the All Day Breakfast, Steak 'N Eggs, a Fried Chicken Biscuit, and Lentil Fritters. First off, most dishes featured a side of kale salad. This salad tasted like untouched leftovers your coworkers would've brought to a cookout. Yet, they were the only items left for the folks who came later (i.e. us). In short, this double-blanched kale salad tasted... stale. Lifeless. And confused. We love kale, but the kale did not love us back.

Yet, the sole saving grace was the House Granola: A phenomenal dish with a flavorful melody that melts in your mouth.

The All Day Breakfast: Subpar. A request for a scrambled egg transformed into a fried egg that was mercilessly hacked to pieces after solidifying. No, that is not what a scrambled egg is. Furthermore, the salad was sadly soggy.

The Steak 'N Eggs: Decent. Tough on some ends, but we knew what we were expecting.

The Fried Chicken Biscuit: Underwhelmingly bland and tough. It was as if it was left in the frier for too long. It, coincidentally, was like your middle sibling being left behind during a family vacation. Furthermore, it wasn't disclosed that it was sandwiched between a jalapeño cheddar biscuit. AND the side of tater tots were COLD!

And lastly the Lentil Fritters: They were 'aight.'

In all, the service showed that we were not forgotten, but the food (kitchen) said otherwise. Let me restate: The service was solid, the folks are friendly, and the environment was aesthetically pleasing. But if you, dear reader, hiked for 6 hours straight, just know that this spot may not the oasis that can ease the woes of an...

April 2021 update: I love the mushroom toast (without cheese) and I add avocado slices on it instead of cheese. It would be awesome to sub cheese for a plant based option for us who eat this, even a discount on the avocado swap out would be nice 😊 tried the kale and it was yummy. I usually get the beans, greens and grains with my toast, it is good hot and cold so I like it a lot 😊 2020 review: After watching Napoleon Dynamite I really wanted some tator tots 🥔. I saw All Day Darling has breakfast all day and tots were on the menu 🙌🏾. When I discovered wild turkeys were roosting on my car, I realized I would have to order delivery 🤷🏾‍♀️. My tots were good, very crispy and lightly salted. Fries are hand cut and lightly salted as well. The lululemonade could have had a little bit more soda, I didn’t get that “bite” that comes with fizzy pop that I was hoping for. It’s very green tasting, great for a macha and chlorophyll lover like me 🌱 . I love they are also offering grocery services, and you can even add on delivery for an extra fee.

When I first moved back to Asheville last March I was sad to see Todd’s Tasty gone, but am happy ADD kept some of the staples and added some yummy new options too. Not as vegan friendly as Todd’s, but the menu is vegetarian friendly. I am glad they are sustaining during this...

OK, gang. So if you've seen my reviews, you know I just tell it like it is. I rarely give a 5 star out. Well, let me say I was amazed. Now, I can only speak on what I had, but you better believe I will be back until I have had everything on their menu. So I got the Thunderbird and reluctantly becuz most places over cook the meat or it's over/under seasoned.

This chicken breast was so tender, and it was blended with their own veggie kraut. I love veggie kraut. It would've tasted like Momma Mary's if they had put some juniper berries in there. O to the MG!! Seasoned to perfection and just the right crunch. My side was Kale, Oh me oh my!!. I just love good food. I think they may have put both feet in that dish. I also had the matcha tea. Good stuff.

I just learned that All Day Darling is not far from where I work. Everything these days is overpriced, but I think this restaurant may be an every now and again best treat. I've already shared my review with my coworker. I am looking forward to hearing how she likes it.

Alright, that's it. Please stop by and support this wonderful local little spot. You won't be sorry. Ok, so if you aren't into a mix of healthy with some comfortable um um um thrown in, then go to BK. The rest of you...
