After riding the river 3 miles from the end my husband and son pulled toward a dock to rest, but an under toll current pulled my husband's raft under the dock and him, too. My son had to pull himself on the dock to get help from someone with a rope. My husband lost his glasses and his phone got ruined. I asked him if there were any warning about the currents and he said no. I told him there need to be warnings so people won't go there. Imagine if someone with kids went through that. My husband and son works out at a gym, too. There needs to be warning of currents that might affect the raft rider's safety. I asked my husband to write a review about it, but he didn't. I thinks he's ashamed that it happened. But I'm not...I'm his wife and people need to know what dangers might be facing them on a fun ride. Other than that, they enjoyed the beginning of the ride down.
Please know that I did not make the above post. I, in fact, refused when my wife asked me. I do appreciate you coming after us. And, as my wife said, we did enjoy much of the trip. I would, however, encourage you to have a mini briefing, at least, to first time floaters and include advice to not try approaching any of the peers along the river and what they can and can not safely put on the kayaks. However, if I had a complaint it would be:
When I inquired about putting a cooler on the kayak, neither the clerk who processed us nor the driver could say it was or was not a good idea. They each thought it would probably work ok. When we got to the place to put into the river, the driver left before we got in. Before floating out into the river, it became very obvious to me that carrying a cooler would never work. Professionals should have known this. I had to leave it and return for it after the float. The life vests looked as though they had never been washed and smelled the same way. None of the questions I asked the driver were answered because according to him, he had never floated the river. It would seem prudent that anyone who is going to ferry folks up river would be required to at least have made one trip down.
I do give high thumbs up for the two guys who came to recover the kayaks. Again, we were very new to river floating and neither of us had ever been in a kayak before. As stated, it would only be prudent to include a mini safety briefing before the...
Read moreMy husband and I had one of the loft rooms. Where they're meant to be more private, they're anything but. You're right above the [amazing] restaurant, and the stairs are directly beside a large open window. Every patron having a bite knows what's in your overnight bag, and what book you're reading, since the (shared) deck is directly beside the outdoor eating area of the restaurant. On our second evening, donning my pj's and robe, I went out to enjoy the night air and read, only to have half the restaurant distastefully regard my presence. I'm sure a woman in nightwear hovering over their dinner plates was a bit annoying. Then again, being stared at by 20 some odd strangers was a tad bit of a nuisance for the tired lady that just wanted to soak in her last few moments of mountain air before heading back to hot, damp Louisiana. The staff IS quite friendly, however, and they will go out of their way to accommodate, but that's where your expectations should lie for accommodations. Our room didn't even have coffee, creamer or filters. It had a [dirty] coffee pot...just nothing to put in it. The room was very clean other than that. The bed was also very comfortable. But had I to do it again, I would have gone elsewhere. Tiptoeing around my room as to not intrude on restaurant patrons' meals was a big nuisance as well. I definitely recommend trying the restaurant out though! The food...

Great air conditioner||Now for the rest of the story: ||When booking for Labor Day weekend , asked about fishing and swimming. Told a previously owned place was known to give day passes ( I would have paid) to their location. Got to the hotel and told probably not this weekend as everyone was full. Such small spots here and there along the shore that was accessible along the hotel back side was a swim at own risk. Current was so strong.... well you get the picture. |||1) Untold number of dead flies on the window sills. 2) Cobweb/dust bunnies along ceilings and fans. 3) Only 3 forks 4) Only two hand towels. 5) No paper towels to clean up messes and warnings that if you stain their two dish towels you will be charged. 6) Outdoor city park type barbeque smelled of rancid fat/meat. 7) Bring your own shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hair dryer. You get one small hotel soap bar per person. 8) Don't look for the blankets on flyer in drawers under the TV. Two of the 4 drawers were glued shut. 9) One coffee cup had never been washed since(?) simply turned upside down with the other ones. ||Did not eat at the restaurant. Front staff (all one of her) was very polite and exhausted looking....
