We were told that our room was just remodeled and it was one of the nicest rooms there. Remodeling was new paint and new decor, apparently, as all of the fixtures are original. The paint job is mediocre, at best. Of the two windows, the one over the jacuzzi is painted shut, it would have been nice to have that window open to let in some fresh air. The other window, it wouldn't stay up, we had to use a spoon to wedge it open.
After checking in, we backed our 24" pontoon into the lake using their launch. We have a one ton Denali with plenty of power. With a boat that long, you have to back in far enough so the boat will float then back it off the trailer. This meant our back wheels were about half deep in the water. We immediately noted trouble - the footing is like quicksand. Our truck's back tires sank in the mud. We got the pontoon off, & I pulled the truck & trailer out (w/ precise instructions from my partner). First, I put it in 4 high, & nothing would budge. Then 4 low & still wouldn't budge with normal compression of the gas pedal. I didn't want to break the back tires loose & bury the tires even deeper. After several failed "soft" attempts, I finally put more pressure on the gas & it really struggled to pull the trailer out of the lake. The pontoon tires filled w/ sand bc they sunk too, & we now have a bunch of sand in our rims (made a lot of noise). We decided not to attempt to pull the boat out at this launch, so as not to risk getting really stuck. The entire time we were there, we watched several boats launch & load. ALL had trouble w/ the sludge like quicksand launch surface. This should be a concrete launch - no excuses for this mess of a launch site. So, when we pulled the boat, we did it at the public launch to lessen the drama and risk (the launch past Bar Harbor and Zorba's).
The security lock on the door is missing half of its mechanism, thus, it doesn't work. See images. The rugs are slippery, w/ nothing holding them in place, my luggage caught up in them and I kept tripping on them.
On our 2nd to last day, we were out of toilet paper. I requested more when I happened to catch the front desk manned, lady stated she'd get some to us. 2 hours later, an impatient knock on the door followed, by the time I got up from my nap & stumbled to the door, the maintenance man was pounding away again. Class act! Forewarning, no one mans the desk. They leave a posted note that if you need assistance you have to call a number
Our room was located on the 3rd floor, above the bar. On Sat. night, they had THE most annoying solo guitar act playing - his songs were nothing but one-line lyrics repeated over and over. His covers were barely marginal.
Other observations: our balcony was dirty and full of spider webs & spiders. The least they could do is take a broom to it to clear out the cobwebs. The gas fireplace didn't work (likely the gas was not turned on, but they advertised that it was). There is no phone in the room so you'll have to take a picture of the note at the front desk if you actually want to try & get them to do something for you.
The elevator is extremely SLOW. We timed it, once on the elevator, it takes 20 ore more seconds for it to move just one floor, yes, it takes 1 whole minute to go from 3 to 1. Also, it took forever for the elevator to come if it wasn't already at your floor.
The rest of the guests were mostly loud, obnoxious & drunk. Not what we were expecting to put up w/ on our vacation.
They advertise on their website that they have a gift shop full of any amenity that you might need. The gift shop was about the size of a walk-in closet & mostly empty. There were several kids' sized t's, some cheap kid fishing poles, and not much more. Very disappointing, when I was freezing to death and wanted to buy a sweatshirt, had to make a special trip to town. The best part of this stay was the kids helping us tie up our pontoon in the strong winds. Those kids were simply awesome, they knew what they were doing & willing to...
Read moreThis was our second visit to Quarterdeck Resort and here is the scoop. Quarterdeck is one of the smaller resorts on the Gull chain. It has been updated and is cute and clean. Think Hotel Hewing in the North Loop - only with a lake theme. The beds are very comfortable and the view from each balcony priceless. The young staff is very kind and the cleaning crew thorough. While you visit, you can rent a pontoon at a pretty reasonable rate for a full or half day. They offer bikes free of charge. There is a restaurant on site that serves typical burgers, salads, tacos and more. Outdoor music adds to the fun on the weekends. The outdoor space is beautiful with fire pits and corn hole. We had a great week but want to provide some caution and direction. We stayed in three different rooms during our stays here and there is a big variation. If you book, it is worth the cost to pay for the most preferred room. These rooms are located furthest from the restaurant and music and are much more updated and spacious. If you are unable to get one of these rooms, get a room on the top floor if you are coming on the weekend, have children or like to go to bed early. The restaurant below the bar hosts bands on Friday and Saturday. While this is fun if you plan to attend, it is extremely loud if you would like to sleep before 10:00 when they wrap it up. At 10:00, the band started singing, "You can't always get what you want . . . " I burst out laughing in my bed in the dark - yes, sleep. The resort is putting in a pool, pool house and other games. This will be a huge addition as the beach is small and used by few. (free paddleboards and kayaks) We typically stay at Grandview or Maddens. If you have small children and are looking for activities and space to roam, Grandview is the place to go. If you are looking to boat and enjoy a beautiful view and like to staty up past 10:00, this is a cheaper alternative. The hotel is branding itself as the "fun" resort on the lake. I think that...
Read moreMe and my family were staying here for one night on the way back from Canada. We came at 2:30 and check in was at 4 so we went to the pool. The pool hot tub and sauna were very nice! There was a game room with a bar. There was a decent selection of games and drinks at the bar but both the games and the drinks at the bar were overpriced. We got two slushy cups that were 12 dollars each. They came in a large reusable bottle. We thought the 12 dollars would be fine because we assumed there were free refills. When we came back us to get a refill. We were told it would be $5 each. We checked into our rooms which were nice, updated, and spacious. We had a large balcony with a great view. The best part about the rooms was the beds. They were very comfortable! We went down to the restaurant they had for dinner. When we walked in there was live music playing. It was good music but it was super loud! We sat outside because how loud the music was. Even outside we could still hear the music and it was still very loud. Our server came and we ordered our food. It came out very quick and the food was delicious! After dinner we went to go up to our room and went to bed early. We woke up in the morning very hungry. We went to the front desk and asked where there were breakfast options. There weren’t any! It was fine though because we found a waffle place (The Iron Waffle) 5 minutes down the road from the resort. The restaurant was small but very good. We came back and went down to the pool. We went to refill our slushys but no one was there. We waited 20 minutes before someone finally came. Overall I would stay here again. It was modern and well kept. I just wish it had more to do and more restaurants that you could eat at. This resort is great for small 1-3 night getaway’s but I would not stay here longer...
