The front desk staff was very nice and accommodating and the waitress /hostess at the Glades restaurant was amazing . Dinner was good . The positive review ends there . ||We checked into the Dogwood executive suite and when we drove up to it we noticed how tired it looked and how much the exterior needed updating. Walked into the unit and was immediately taken aback as to the very dated decor and musty smell. Grey on brown and a chair that was brown with gold flecks. A major painting was needed . The furniture was super dated as were the TVs and the bathroom was not something I felt comfortable using. After much thought we decided to see if we could change to the hotel as a couple next to us confirmed the outdatedness and their surprise of it in their unit . They were all the same apparently with slightly different flooring. ||The front desk staff was very accommodating and immediately moved us to a double queen room in the inn and said this room was updated. We were very happy to be moving . Our happiness quickly faded when we entered our room. It was better than the executive suite however the carpets were stained in multiple places (assuming pet accidents) , lights that were a cold LED, a toilet seat that was replaced and didn’t match and also slid sideways when you sat on it, the toilet also leaked on the floor . One of the faucets in the outer sink had been turned off underneath because it wouldn’t shut off (I tried to no avail) and there was no facial soap at the sink. I was told the hotel had done away with individual soap and that it was all in pumps in the shower. I found that very awkward to have to go into the shower to get soap out of a pump to wash my face . The front staff did ask someone to bring us a bar of soap and they did however a waste as it was a triple pack of normal bar soap that had paper that basically disintegrated off as I was removing it from moisture . I think it was old soap. ||Breakfast was a buffet and a joke but fairly extensive. Rubber scrambled eggs that tasted of nothing and oatmeal that was still crunchy. Crappy yogurt, no hard boiled egg or bananas or peanut butter. We did have strawberries and blueberries which were the only edible items . The yogurt was only a flavored one . We decided to eat breakfast elsewhere . ||Such a shame because the grounds were nice but it seemed like they were waiting for units to sell in order to afford to update. I wouldn’t be surprised if the hotel fails. I will certainly not be recommending this to anyone. It was written up on some website as a fine resort in WV. Should have read reviews on Trip advisor and continued on to...

It started with them placing us, a couple with a baby, next door to some poor soul who was traveling alone with a giant dog and they got into a terrible accident (the hotel already knew this was the case when we were checking in that evening), so the poor dog was left alone without food, water or walks that day and the next morning because everyone was too afraid to go in. So the dog barking, all, night, long. My husband and I could hear something was not okay from the barks and knowing how our own dogs are. Needless to say, we all three slept maybe 4 hours.
That room was an “executive suite”. The granite was broken, I found a long dark hair in the bed when I went to sleep, the room could not have the heat turn off or go lower than 65. So we kept it at 65, it was 80+ by the morning. The TV remote barely worked. Not to mention the nasty dirty hand print next to the toilet paper!
Then we naturally switched rooms. We were hoping by paying for an upgrade (great customer service), we would have a better experience. Oh gosh. That room is the picture of the white stain on the pillow, the nasty kitchen utensil, the bathtubs. The light in the bathroom didn’t work (not to mention several other bulbs were not functioning). The tub stopper didn’t work to give my kid a bath (we had two tubs, both stoppers were broken).
The Christmas buffet was $80 per person. The meat was cold. The only good part was the Yule log cake. The sports bar was alright food. Same price as the fancier grill. There was no gravy or sauce with the steak. Everything just left something to be desired. The cucumbers on the salad the second night were from the buffet the first night (frozen and limp).
Communication— they sent several links. One for precheck in, one for ordering amenities and then another as a survey. All three links—broken. The first night I was texting the front desk (like they ask you to when you check in) and I got zero reply for hours and hours.
This is not a resort. At least the people were nice and the area is gorgeous but that’s about it. We have to drive once a month from Kentucky to Virginia and we were hoping to find a solid suite to stay in that is halfway on our trip every month, I don’t...
Read moreThis was our 3rd time staying at Glade Springs; we typically don't like to leave reviews without visiting a place at least twice. We have always stayed in the rooms labeled 'Executive Suite', and never in the same room.
PROS: -- The staff is very friendly and professional. -- Check-in has always been fast and accurate. -- The free breakfast is superb! Best free breakfast we've ever had in any hotel. -- The WiFi is fast and reliable. -- Rooms have always been clean. -- There is a ton of stuff to do and free shuttles to get you there with friendly drivers. -- Bunkers Sports Bar is delicious and the pricing is fair. -- Proximity to Winterplace Ski Resort is excellent; it's easily the best place to stay if you're skiing, and the shuttles will run you there too.
CONS: -- The 'Executive' Suites are really more like 'Discount' suites. They are very outdated, and there have always been small problems with each unit. The AC/Heating units have always been quirky and inaccurate. In our most recent unit the bathroom and bedroom doors were difficult to close - we had to manipulate them by pulling up on the handle very hard and then pushing with some force. The fan in the bathroom made loud grinding noises when turned on. The floor had a couple of soft/worn spots that sunk in slightly and creaked. None of these issues have been enough to force a complaint (after 20 years in the Army I consider these problems very small), but at the local price point I think it's fair to expect everything to be kept up to certain standards that warrant an 'Executive' label. They just old and they need a bit of TLC. -- Parking has always been problematic unless you get there early. If you arrive late, expect to park a considerable distance from your room. There are no luggage carts at the Executive Suites, so pack light if you're arriving late or else you'll be making a couple of long trips. We actually got lucky on our most recent trip - we arrived at about 5:30 and there was parking right in front of our unit, but we arrived later on our previous trips and had to park pretty far away.
Overall this resort is pretty great. With some room renovations it would...
