See TripAdvisor for full review on this racist place! In 2022 I don’t understand why we only saw one person of color working at this resort. Which is probably why we experienced the most racist, GET OUT movie , uncomfortable, and extremely weird stay that we have EVER experienced in life. The property is historic so if that’s not your thing you wouldn’t like. It gives very much old money. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, lots of places to take amazing photos. They really do a great job with the upkeep. Our room was ok. When we booked we were told the location of our room would award us with a picture perfect view of the rolling hillside- this was false. Our view was the side of a hill with tree debris on the ground. The walk to our room was extremely long, atleast 8 mins to the lobby and the elevator was extremely slow. After the racist encounters we experienced I didn’t feel comfortable walking these halls alone, so we traveled in pairs. Our bathroom did come equipped with a vanity table, this was a very nice touch. Room was also very spacious. We opted out of having a porch or anything like that so it was a standard room. If you go to the left upon entering the resort, I believe that is the more renovated side. It’s bright and not as dreary, dark and old as the other side.
Spa - We visited the spa and this is the first of where the outright racial encounters started. We enjoyed the spa bath, note this is self guided but extremely relaxing. Upon entering the pool two white women gave us a look of disgust and immediately left the pool. Like what y’all think we’re gonna do? Pee in the water ?! But whatever bye Karen and Annie ! Most of the other women in the spa locker rooms looked at us as if we were in a circus as we walked through the hallways.
Outdoor Pool- When we walked to the outdoor pool from the spa it was like the music stopped and we were the ones who turned it off. Although there wasn’t any music playing !!! Every single eye in the pool stared us down while we looked for a seat. Talk about the movie Get Out! The pool is also the area where they had the only employee that wasn’t white. As we were preparing our seats for a spot we found at the pool we encountered yet another racially motivated exchange. My gf was setting up our seats while I kinda stayed back a little and held our stuff. There was a young lady next to one of the seats that didn’t see me standing behind her, do you know this girl watched my friend the entire time as if she owned all the pool chairs. Then finally the other woman that was with her says “hey honey do you want to switch your seat with me “ ( I guess she knew that this girl didn’t like the idea of sitting next to a black person) she replies “yes please “ and gets up to move!!!!! So we’re like whatever by Nancy. We decided once our food came we would sit at a table so we staked out a table and moved. Do you know little Nancy came back to her seat because she thought we had left ?!? Crazy right ? Food at the pool bar was decent. My gf said the gluten free tenders were the best she ever tasted. Drinks were also good. Pizza was very bland like school lunches and even came complete with a dead centipede in the box!!!! Umm yuck ! The waitress did handle it well and was extremely apologetic that this happened. Tally Ho Sports- they need to do better! We booked this property because of the ATV rides. Well they were broken and “waiting on parts” so we couldn’t do it. So we opted for horseback riding and trap shooting. Horseback riding was cancelled the day before because something else was broken. They did offer us to go riding at another location, but that would’ve been off property and 15 mins away. So we ended up with just trap shooting. This was also off property but a very short distance. We had a great time trap shooting!!! The guys were extremely nice and made us first timers feel very comfortable. Larry was my instructor and the BEST! Be prepared to have a sore...
Read moreThe hotel is very historic, and parts of it do have a musty/aged smell and damaged carpet. They clearly try to balance preserving as much as they can with making improvements. There are a lot of narrow areas when walking through, elevation changes with odd small ramps/slopes (not all marked) and lots of steps with not enough elevators to move people efficiently. The walls are also paper thin - we could hear every word our neighbors said and could hear kids running and screaming and doing cartwheels down the hall. The first day the hotel was less occupied and it seemed the facilities could better accommodate fewer people.
The hotel itself is very well preserved with a lot of historic artifacts and old woodwork. The indoor pool and the spring fed hot tubs in the spa are clearly well cared for. The self guided history tour is informative and a nice option.
The coffee shop staff was always friendly but they seemed to be understaffed. The restaurants on site were good but not great for the price point, especially the Tavern. 1796 and the Crystal Room were better but again - not great for the price.
The outdoor pool was overrun with garbage. Clearly understaffed for the number of guests. Every pool chair was taken for the entire 4 hours we were outside, and they had maybe 3 people working and none doing anything about the garbage. All drinks were served in disposable cups and they weren’t cleaning up cups or used towels. They were also “behind” on towel service - meaning they had none. The pool felt busier than the hotel, but then as I listened I realized many many people at the pool were not yet checked in. They came early to go to the pool knowing their room wouldn’t be ready until 4, so the pool was full of hotel guests who were checked in or possibly checking out, and people who arrived early. I saw dozens of people come to the pool to leave after not finding a place to even sit down.
The spa was amazing - by far the best experience of the resort. Brandon and Kelcie in the salon were wonderful. The spa quiet area is nice and the snacks and tea were excellent, as were all of the attendants. The only thing the spa lacks is a dry sauna. They have a steam room, but no dry sauna. Their pedicure seating situation is bad - no massage chairs and a hard, straight backed bench. It was fine but if you’re larger, older, have mobility issues, have back issues, etc., I could see the pedicure situation being a significant problem.
The grounds of the resort are beautiful. There are a number of easy and very scenic hikes on the property. They are dog friendly with a well marked dog area and bags for waste. The front desk staff, concierge, parking, restaurant staff, spa staff, etc., all were very attentive. Only one person we encountered had any type of attitude and the situation provoking it was apparent and she dealt with things as best as she could without directing her obvious frustration at us.
The room itself was small but nice. The mattresses were okay but one was creaky. The pillows were awful. We asked for other pillows and they could only bring us more of the bad pillows. If you need a supportive pillow or pillows for your knees - bring your own. The plugs were also in weird places, so there was nowhere to plug in a phone charger to have it be by the bed and no accessible outlets to plug in a cpap. The one bed had to be moved to get to the only outlet close enough for the cpap. The room was cleanish - clean but if you looked at the fixtures and the blinds and the ceiling, very dusty and cobwebby. There was a used contact lens on our bathroom floor and a piece of scotch tape on the wall...

Management reached out to me and we’re extremely accommodating.
My experience at the spa with a massage and “bath ritual” did not disappoint. Brandon was an excellent massage therapist. So much so I asked to see him again the next day. I’ve always enjoyed coming to this spa and I’m so happy the quality is still excellent.
Also enjoyed the pasta buffet at Tillie’s. Highly recommend because they cooked the pasta fresh for you via a pasta bar. The meatballs are home made. Excellent value at $27 for adults.
Thank you Bedford Springs Resort for addressing my concerns. ———— My husband and I used to frequent this particular resort often prior to COVID and used to think it was lovely. Unfortunately, I'm very disappointed with the lack of amenities and customer experience.
I've been dealing with another cancer diagnosis, chemotherapy and possibly only 6 months to live. I let the hotel know when I booked the reservation in hopes of making sure everything went well.
I like the down to earth nature of this resort, but if you're going to charge $22+ dollars for cocktails and these exhorbinant rates for rooms and a ridiculous $39 resort fee, there should be more polish. These are big city prices without the benefits.
Disappointments: No more tea time Parking out front isn't first come first serve, it's now $35; they never used to charge. The valet also schooled me on tipping if I use the free valet service. I live in DC, so I'm aware I should tip valets already. Annoyed by the valet, I parked the car myself in the gravel lot behind the hotel in an industrial zone and had a horrible time finding the hotel entrance. A maze of stairs, doors, and bridges with terrible signage. Not so much fun for my 76 year old mother with luggage. Turn down service was horrible. They didn't close the windows, leave any chocolates, refresh the toiletries, leave any extra coffee or turn down the bed. The lights and TV were on. They did empty the trash. Super tiny and sparse toiletries. One tiny bar of soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Bite sized portions for babies, but not for adults. Dinner at 1796 was lovely, but the reservation check in and seating process was time consuming. We waited for 11 minutes while the hostess chatted with younger staff about this, that and the other. When seated, we were given paper menus. This place charges $17 for French onion soup and $44 for salmon without sides, so a leather bound menu, like everyone else seemed to get, would have been a nice touch. Side note, our waitress was perfect and lovely and the food was excellent. Got three coupons for some free drinks because of Omni status. Can't drink wine or beer on chemo, so it's basically good for a $4.00 cup of tea. There are two of us and we only got three coupons. Guess we're supposed to split our drinks. I requested a room with a balcony. They said no because they're sold out at 100%. Halls are empty, so I think that's a line of garbage. Can't take a proper bath because the drain doesn't close all the way
