I was asked to leave because I wouldnt listen to the management berate and control me instead of them listening to me and giving me a chance to explain anything. I supposedly got a complaint from another hiker that disrespected me. I had just woken up not even 5 seconds and was changing my shirt at 7:00 and this complainant slammed the door turned on the light and then walked straight towards his bag which was next to me and bumped into me. He didn’t say sorry, excuse me or anything of the sort. So I told him how disrespectful he was. I guess he didn’t like that and he lied and told the management I was yelling and cursing at him. After a few other small incidences with the volunteer that has been there for two years, I told the managment I was gonna leave. That’s when I was informed that this hiker that complained about me lied to the managment. They then preceded to not even let me explain how the guy lied and was told it was time for me to leave. As I was walking thru the room I asked why I couldn’t even explain and tell the real story of what happened, the manager said he’d listen to me outside because he didn’t want to upset a dog that is unfortunately not doing well and had a grandma seizure yesterday in which I still bear the weight of that incident . An u healthy dog that has some major issues should not be in a hostel where there is so much foot traffic. The manager didn’t give me respect because i believe in his mind I was the issue and he had already made his mind up. By that point I knew I was facing an up hill battle to just explain myself and decided it wasn’t worth talking outside because there was no way I was gonna stay after that. I am one of the most respectful and polite people out there, but when somebody disrespects me and doesn’t say I’m sorry or excuse me I’m the type of person that calls them on it and then this hiker goes and plays chicken little to the management as if I’m the problem when he slammed the door turned the light on and bumped into me all writhing 5 seconds and only after me being awake for literally 5 seconds on top of that. Then the volunteer without understanding what was happening , stood guard like I was the problem. I then tried to go outside and the volunteer was talking to a hiker and the hiker was blocking the door. I stood there for a minute and they didn’t stop talking and let me thru so I preceded to go upstairs thru the house to get outside. It’s funny that everyone can disrespect me but I’m not allowed to stand my ground . People are not even mentally present anymore and are so willing to see one side of things before even trying to hear both sides. I personally think this is a nice hostel but the way I was treated and disrespected , I will never be back and not recommend this hostel to anyone but thru hikers if you need a short stop and place to stay.

Glenn is a nice guy and good manager but was on the wrong side of the truth this time and this should’ve been handled way differently. I’m very disapointed with how everything transpired this morning. I’m on the autism spectrum and I never try to offended anyone, I’m supper super quiet even at 7:30 pm when hikers had the lights off. I was told it’s time to leave without me being able to give any explanation at all or to go outside for an explanation, Glenn should’ve asked me upstairs to where we could talk and let me explain what really happened. But it unfortunately happened another way. Once again the person that is giving , respectful, and on the spectrum is the one that gets asked to leave because of others that made it worse than it was by getting in the middle of something that was and could’ve been a passing issue. I leave with no regrets , but I would not recommend the hostel unless you absolutely need to stay somewhere and don't have a tent handy.

Side note, I was always super quiet, bought and cooked food for other hikers for free, gave a free 45 mile ride to a very cool hiker, and was always respectful to everyone. I was given the title of a Trail Angel, but that’s not gonna...

Looking for an economical excursion? A first date adventure? Or just family time where birds sing, kids run free and phones don't ring.... ||Put on your walkin' shoes, bring grandma and the family dog, and drive west on Rt. 7 just 20 minutes from Leesburg (25 min. from Winchester/I81) to stop on a mountaintop in scenic Clarke County.||Bring a picnic, park for $3 , follow a wooded path and explore around the huge stone house that serves as a hostel for overnight travelers. It's an easy walk from the main house to take in a beautiful view or catch the sunset while sitting on huge rock formations near the treeline (on clear days the rocks are visible from rt. 7 west... on the river side!) Energetic climbers like to explore around and through openings to a lower level "room" surrounded on three sides by rocks, also a perfect photo spot.||The Appalachian trail crosses the path to Bears Den Hostel (where there is also a store with ice cream & cold drinks). The on-site campgrounds, dorm-style rooms, and picnic tables make this a popular place for scout troops and avid hikers who have traveled miles on foot. If you are new to the mountain, check in with onsite staff for maps and seasonal info. Trees are marked with paint to help you travel the famous AT in either direction from Bears Den.||My family likes to park in the lot at the corner of rt. 7 & rt. 601 "Blueridge Mountain Road" (road to the Blue Ridge Hostel). Bring water and look for the trail opening at edge of lot to hike about 25 min. to the top. (always faster coming back down!) |Attached pics are from the Clarke County/Berryville side of the Blue Ridge mountain.||Check out more on...

Camped here in May of 2018. Overall the campground was great, plenty of downed trees and limbs for firewood. The campground only has 5 spots but they are spaced out enough and there is a community shelter for cooking or storm escape. My only issue was there was a private wedding planned with reception until 1 am and the grounds keeper / Manager failed to divulge the info over the phone when I reserved the spot for the night. Don’t get me wrong he did everything to accommodate us even allowed us to ride the motorcycles back to camp. The late night electric slide echoing through the woods was tough to deal with. Bottom line is if you call to get a spot make sure to ask if anything is scheduled for the time you are there. Lastly be weary of the road going in it’s quite treacherous if your on a motorcycle.

If you're out here in Northern VA looking for a great view, this is amazing. I came here on Mother's Day and was happy to see other fellow hikers. A great hike to relieve the stress of the work week. We parked by the campground which is a small lot, you can do your own google search for road names, and stayed on course to be brought out to a bigger lot. Rocks can be slick, it's muddy out there, we had small back pack. Loved this view. You have to see it yourself to believe it 🤗 my pics are random stuff I liked, I won't ruin the "view" for you. Worth the drive. Go see it 🌿
