Campground Review – Site #37 (Early June Stay) The drive to the campground was absolutely beautiful and surprisingly accessible—any vehicle can make the trip without the need for four-wheel drive, which was a relief. The campground itself is very well-maintained, and the campsites are clean and thoughtfully arranged. I stayed at site #37, which I found to be ideal in terms of layout and location. One of the standout features of this site was the generous spacing between campsites. We enjoyed a sense of privacy, with a large open field behind us and minimal road noise at night, creating a peaceful and quiet environment. The camp hosts were friendly, professional, and attentive to the site’s upkeep and security. Bob, in particular, was welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Cleanliness was top-notch—I would rate it a 5/5. The restrooms were equipped with flush toilets and sinks, and new hot water heaters had just been installed for the showers. Our site was conveniently located near the restrooms and water access. It was level, offered a comfortable amount of shade, and was easy to set up camp on. In terms of pests, I’d give it a 2/5 (5 being terrible amount of bugs). There were a few mosquitoes, but they weren’t much of a bother. We did have a couple of aggressive scrub jays in the area, likely due to a nearby nest, which might not be a common issue for all campers. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this campground to others looking for a clean, quiet, and well-managed place to enjoy the outdoors

I love this place, I've camped a lot in my life and have had so many trips ruined by a loud obnoxious group playing music at ridiculous volumes and late into the night, not to mention extremely loud generators... There's people who want to come and enjoy nature and some people want to come and party. If you're here to camp and enjoy nature , Barton flats is amazing. If you're wanting to party, the camp hosts will make sure to enforce the rules which have been explained to me first thing every time i've camped here. There's better places to party , like the desert. The camp hosts, Elise and Lane, are not rude or mean like some are posting. They simply enforce the camp rules so everyone else gets to enjoy their time. I've found them to be pleasant, kind and fair, and they keep this camp super clean , family friendly, and in tip top shape. They even gave me an ohv guide as i was interested in the trails in the surrounding area. People complaining about them saying to park with the front of your vehicle pointed out? it's not cause they are mean , it's cause if there's a fire , and everyone is frantically trying to escape , you won't cause an accident or traffic jam. Asking you to keep your dog on the leash? there's lots of coyotes waiting to snack on your best friend. I saw their poop on a hike. I hope Elise and Lane continue to stay hosts as they keep Barton flats a place I want to continue going to.

Ok where do i start… I had always stayed at serrano camp and wanted to try something different.. the place overall is nice.. more steep hills and expected and considering we are not in great shape that was something to consider 😂 We stayed at site #10 which is a double site (big) we liked it a lot. Bathroom was not as close as we all wished and expected considering the map picture we had seen. They are clean, have tp. However there is no hand soap 🤔. Water was right in front of us. Showers? Forget it, only one building by the entrance and thise are for all the camp site. So considering all the things we had to take there we drove 😑 Not used to this at serrano since theres showers by the bathrooms everywhere. There is a convenience store 7 miles away which is where we bought ice. Big bear town, 40 mins away.. we went to jenks hiking trail which ends at this beautiful lake up in the mountain (AMAZING) must do it and its only 2 minutes away from the camp driving… I dont think i would stay here again just because of the batroom situation.

My husband and I have been coming to barton flats for 6 years now. This year we decided to take my siblings so we reserved 3 sites and we're excited to show them the campground we've raved about. Upon arrival we were setting up. The female host came up to us to introduce herself. I let her know we were going to be over 2 vehicles the second night but that we would pay for them. She said it would be ok.

The male host came a bit later he was in a bit of a mood and I guess we were his punching bag. He said our music was loud. I asked him if he could hear it from where we were standing he said no. Then I asked him what waste problem. I didn't understand since we really didn't have it loud and we weren't being disruptive. He started charging for all vehicles and I questioned him if this was new. He said he had been herd for years and was standard policy. My husband and I were shocked because he was new and no he hadn't been here for years, and no we've never been charged and never been treated ot talked to in this tone. He questioned the amount of people we had. I told him we wre still expecting my sisters family tomorrow morning we were way below the allowed and if he needed to count everyone he could we dont have anything or anyone to hide. We paid him and he went away.

The restrooms were clogged and unattended to which was weird because one of the things we loved about this site was how clean and upkept the restrooms and showers were in previous years. Let's just say. We might have to look for a new campground to go to next year. I do not recommend.

So sad 😞

Maybe my messasge wasn't clear. He charged me for every vehicle. But I guess you will come up for an excuse for that too. Like I said, I've come for a few years and was never treated...

Please save yourself a truly unpleasant experience and go to any other of the many campgrounds around. The staff here is completely rude. Especially the old lady.

I went with a group of friends and we were constantly being yelled at for things that other campers were also doing. Yes, one night we stayed up past normal hours just talking by the fire, and we were given a warning about noise. The second night we went to sleep much earlier, but were accused of the same noise. We were also accused of going over the speed limit, even though we followed it. Again, other cars who drove much faster were left unbothered. I truly feel like the staff had it out for us the rest of the time simply because of the noise complaint against us from the first night.

By noon of the second day we were kicked out because there were apparently too many complaints against us even though most of had left the campsite to go either hiking or get food, so we hadn't even done anything to warrant getting in trouble. The staff was completely rude, yelling, cutting us off, and telling us that if we didn't leave they'd call the cops. They also refused to give us a refund for the extra day we missed or for car parking.

It turned out that we didn't pack fast enough for their liking because they called the sheriff regardless. Even the sheriff was more laid back and understanding about the situation than the hosts.

Honestly, from reading other reviews, this place just feels like a scam. If the hosts don't take a liking towards you right off the bat, they will just kick you out at their leisure and not give you your money back.

If you want to have a good time, just skip this place and go...

Very clean, the couple watching over it when we were there were super awesome, very nice and helpful they drove around the entire camp ground about once an hour, I saw them picking up trash and making sure all the campers were signed in, One important thing to us because we had 11 kids with us were the restrooms, they were the cleanest restrooms I have ever been to at a camp ground and they did not smell , I just could not get over how clean everything was, we heard coyotes howling at night but they sounded far away, when we were looking for wood about a 1/4 mile behind our camp we did find what was left of a small deer leg nothing left on it just the bone, but even in that we felt very safe, were not worried about any wild animals or bears. At night we could hear the cars on Hwy 38 but it did not keep us awake. Great place to take the kids. Oh We heard there was a trail that would take us to the Santa Ana River we were almost there BUT had to turn around we have a 4 year old and two 5 year olds and at some point the trail narrows to the point that we no longer felt it was safe to be on that trail with the kids, if you decide to take that hike I recommend you don't take small children and bring snacks, and plenty of water, we heard the River had water and was beautiful. Things we forgot to bring and needed. Trash bags, wire for roasting things over the campfire, broom, you should bring a rake, and hand sanitizer and wet wipes, they have big steel boxes at each campsite to put your food in at night so you don't have to worry about animals. We are going back next week. Had a great all...
