Traveler's Rest Motel — Hotel in Bogalusa

Stayed here a few months ago and forgot to leave a review but feel I should anyways. I only review when I feel it is needed and this one is needed. Motels and hotels are scarce in the area and most of the ones that are available are trap motels where you really don't feel safe leaving your car unattended to take your luggage in your room but this motel is a hidden gem. The rooms are large clean and you almost never have to park from your room. The staff is always kind and attentive to the point of bringing you an outside ashtray if they see you smoke. Laundry available $10 a load but worth it if your working. I travel for work literally 10 months a year for work and this is probably the best motel I have ever stayed at for the price. The only negatives about this place are that the wifi was either down or slow, it is pretty much in the middle of nowhere with a gas station that closes at ten across the road and a few sit down restaurants as your only option for something close. But the biggest one for most people is going to be the smell, it's downwind from a paper plant and when the wind blows the wrong way the smell outside can almost make you gag. That's why the price is so low. The last thing is a personal drawback and that is if you stay there for any period of time they make you initial when you don't want room service and you have to let them in your room to do a check once a week. First of all I book online a smoking room get there about 5pm , they said they had me in a non smoking room, the lady checks and says they haven't finished cleaning the smoking rooms.!So I said ok a non smoking room is fine we will just smoke outside. Get a room walk in the room looks very clean. Turn down the beds a little sheets look real clean. Go out come back later on for bed , the carpet was wet all of it, get in bed the sheets are damp. Go to bed cold and wet. Next morning before leaving we check room to make sure we didn't leave anything pull sheets all the way down and there's bugs and black hairs at the bottom of bed! Very disgusting! Pray we don't get bed bugs! I go turn in key and tell the lady and she says ok I will let them know. She should have offered some money back or went and checked room. My view, they don't change the sheets, carpet wet and bugs and hair. That is gross!...

This place has set ups for RV's! Which was perfect for us since that's what we came in. They sites need some maintenance in regards to low hanging trees. However we found a site we could fit our 41 foot long, 13 foot high 5th wheel. That said, if you have a big rig, you will want to make sure they have a site you can fit in before your book. We stayed in site 7. No worries at all on turn around space, so don't be afraid to pull in and check it out. The owner and staff were very nice and kept an eye on our place during some heavy winds while we were out. Our canopy tried to take off for a walk in the woods during one particular gust.
