Wonderful place to hang out for drinks and food! They had live music while we were there which was great and being right on Boothbay harbor with the light breeze made for a perfect date night! We arrived at 5pm and had no trouble finding a parking spot or a table. By 6pm they were much busier, so get there on the earlier side. Everything is counter service. Food counter is at one spot and the bar is inside, first come first served. This means you’ll need to order from two counters and likely will stand in line twice. There was basically no wait to order food. My only complaint was the wait for the bar. There was a line of at least 8 people at the bar when we first got there and there was only one bartender working. Wait time was at least 15 minutes for our initial round of drinks. I didn’t mind waiting for our first round which I got before ordering food. But once we picked up food, I wanted a beer to go with my dinner but the line for the bar was out the door, so I didn’t bother because our food would’ve been cold and my husband would likely have been done eating by the time I got back. But this is my only complaint. Food was delicious and perfectly cooked! We got the crab roll which was stuffed and had the perfect amount of mayo so I could still taste the crab. The bun was warm and toasted. I would’ve liked to have a butter only option for the crab roll instead of mayo since my husband hates mayo, but it’s already mixed with the mayo which just meant more for me ;) We also got the fried fish dinner which was some of the best I’ve had. The fish was flaky, perfectly cooked and the batter was the perfect amount and stayed stuck to the fish while eating it. Loved their tartar sauce which used sweet relish and that was a pleasant surprise. We got the garlic mashed potatoes which used red potatoes and were wonderful. We also got the fries which were great as well and were a good portion. They also had a section for steamed seafood where you can watch them steam lobster, clams and mussels and a special section to pick up your steamed food with all the fixings like lemon and butter. Prices were very reasonable and our total cost was less than every other restaurant we’ve eaten at since moving to Maine. This is our new go to spot for dining out. Can’t wait to...
Read moreMy family toured New England over a couple weeks and we had not originally planned to go to Boothbay Harbor but I am so glad we did. The Boothbay Lobster Wharf was my favorite thing from our trip. Being from MD I know how to cook and eat blue crabs. In fact, I will only order crabs in MD. Going to Maine I was looking for a place to order lobster to get the experience of eating the food the state is known for.
I approached the window and explained why we were there and the lady explained how everything works and what they serve. Some in our party ordered prepared food which they loved, while 4 of us ordered lobsters! We picked them out and watched them go into the steamer. The gentleman who helped us explained how to pick them. The shell was harder than a blue crab but the reward was much greater with huge chunks of sweet meat!
I had read that the people in Boothbay Harbor were super friendly and welcome visitors as good friends or family so I approached a couple who was eating lobsters and asked for further guidance. They were super happy to help us which elevated our experience.
While our lobsters were cooking we watched lobstermen bring in their catch so we knew that this was going to be the freshest lobster we could get. I tried ordering lobster meat on salads and lobster rolls in various places up the coast, even in Bar Harbor and on Mt. Desert Island, and nothing compared to the lobster I ate in Boothbay Harbor. The quality, the freshness, the experience, and the price could not be beat anywhere else. I can't recommend this place enough to other tourists traveling through Maine. Make Boothbay Harbor a stop on your list if for no other reason than eating at the Boothbay...
Read moreWe ordered: fisherman’s platter, lobster bisque, onion rings, cheeseburger and pint of chicken tenders.
My other half eats pretty much anything and cleans his plate. He could NOT finish his meal.
Fisherman’s platter : scallops good! Shrimp just okay. Haddock - one piece was amazing, one piece undercooked and the next he said he doesn’t believe was even haddock.
Onion rings - looked great! If they weren’t cold (weird on warm day) would have been good.
Lobster bisque - if that was my first bite of lobster bisque that I ever had, I would never try again in my life. It seemed like it was puréed lobster with milk. There should’ve been some chunks of meat in there not just the flavor of lobster.
Chicken tenders: These are the best part of the whole meal. The “sweet-and-sour” sauce I was given. Was very very good. I went back up to get another one and was given packets not a homemade sauce so I think they messed up and gave me a sauce that didn’t even go with the chicken the first time.
Cheeseburger - Cheeseburger was fine. I asked for no onions and I asked for mayo on it. It came with onions and I had to go back up and get mayo.
When we ordered it, took about 35 minutes to get our food. People that came in after us were getting their food.
Definitely not a place we will be...
