I was so excited to find an available room during the Covered Bridge Festival in Brazil, Indiana. I originally booked my room through booking.com but contacted the inn directly to add an additional day when we decided to add an additional day to our festival visit. The man, young woman, and older woman who I spoke to on the phone during three separate phone conversations seemed very nice and professional, which made my experience at this hotel so incredibly unbelievable.||||When we approached the hotel area, I was sure the GPS was taking us to the wrong building. A Best Western Covered Bridge Inn was located close to our hotel, but that was not the right one. Our hotel was basically a one-story strip of rooms lining the front and back of a building. Black plastic -- maybe trashbags -- hung in many windows instead of curtains, and far too many doors looked like they had been busted into with door handles and locks broken off. On the front side, the Inn looked absolutely deserted except for a lit Office sign in a window. On the back, one vehicle was in the parking lot in front of a room with the door wide open and decorated in such a way that it looked like the person / people lived there. It was 6 p.m., and this hotel looked like something shown in the movies that houses meth heads and hookers. An equally vacant looking multi-story building was next door without its own sign so it might have been part of the inn, too. I saw a man who looked basically homeless pushing a cleaning cart and a ghetto rusted huge gold car in the parking lot with all the doors, the trunk lid, and the hood wide open parked in front of one room that again looked like the occupant lived there. ||||My friend freaked out a bit when I got out of the car in broad daylight to take some photos to send to booking.com when I intended to request a refund. This parking lot and these buildings were absolutely terrifying. ||||On the good side, however, management did agree to waive any type of late cancellation fee when booking.com contacted them with my concerns. This sounds crazy, but I hope these people get jobs at reputable hotels. The way they spoke with me on the phone and the way they handled the cancellation was professional. How they got hooked up with this hotel has me...
Read moreCons:
▪️Decent sized gaps in the door. Not a huge deal with nicer weather, but not so nice in colder weather! This also let's a good deal of noise through. ▪️The WiFi (literally one of the very few handful of amenities offered) didn't work for well over half my stay. I had the right password, it just never could authenticate. It finally connected at 6:30am the following morning. So I got to use it for all of 4.5 hours until check out. ▪️The shower head was too strong. It was like needles! I couldn't even wash or rinse my face because it stung so bad. I had to wash my face in the sink. ▪️Found 4 big hairs on the toilet seat and on the towels on the rack above the toilet. Another few hairs on, in and around the sink.
Pros:
▪️Clean enough. No bedbug or other pest activity, either active or in the past. ▪️Fridge and microwave worked fine. The microwave was a bit rough and smelled like someone boiled over and subsequently burnt their coffee inside. ▪️They have a 9pm quiet time stipulation. It didn't really have to be enforced, but I'm glad they point that out so other residents will keep it down a bit.
Overall:
I would probably stay here again. Probably. Being budget conscious and all, you can't beat $50 for a room for the night. The no WiFi was the biggest disappointment but again, survivable. Cleanliness could be a...
Read moreThe room we received was NOTHING like the pictures. It had very old, very old, dark carpet that has not been vacuumed in such a long time. So much on that floor. My feet were dirty when I stepped into the shower from walking across the room. Everywhere I looked, I could see filth-The bathroom doorway, the walls, the sink, the toilet, the shower curtain, the tub had a ring. There was pizza in the fridge. Really? Do you think someone cleaned? NO! They made the bed and put out towels. That is all. We stayed because of a wedding and only had minutes to check in and leave. (then returned later for the night) We would not have stayed if we had a chance to see the place and ask for our money back. I see reviews with black plastic hanging in the windows from years ago. It is still that way! We were upstairs in the back building. The sink was all chipped and rusted. No breakfast, but truthfully, I don't think they should handle food. One of the worst I have seen. I'm sorry they...
