This review is mostly in regards to the restaurant itself as the "hotel" issues will be addressed with Airbnb directly.
My wife & I booked a room at The Town House for the night of September 2nd with the plan to check in, leave to go to Americus, & return for the night with check out being September 3rd. We arrived The Town House at 1:20p.m. as we planned to eat lunch their prior to checking in. The hours posted online AND on the door said that they close at 2p.m. We had already looked at the menu & knew what we wanted (the pimento cheese sandwich). When we arrived, the only person in the restaurant area was the hostess. My wife asked if we made it in time to eat, & she said she would check. At this point she wasn't necessarily "friendly" but also wasn't rude. She went to the kitchen & came back & said that we could eat, the asked if we wanted to eat from the lunch buffet or the menu. We stated the menu & she rolled her eyes as she gave them to us. My wife then asked if it was an issue for us to eat & she said "no, it's fine." She then went back to the kitchen & came back to tell us that the kitchen said that they weren't cooking off the menu at this point & that we could only eat from the buffet. We decided to leave at that point (it was ONLY 1:30p.m.) & my wife made the comment that we were suppose to be staying there but we would have to see if we were or not. We then left & found food elsewhere.
We did end up returning to check into our room, which was a whole other mess. The room was not as advertised on Airbnb. There was a door in the room that led to the roof. It was not locked & when we opened it to see what was outside, we were shocked to find an open platform with no railing or barrier. There was a layer of dust on the mantle, the floor length mirror & bathroom mirror both had spots all over them (we checked to see if they could be wiped off, they can.) The bathroom was DISGUSTING. There was soap scum all around the bath tub (again, checked to make sure it wasn't just staining, & it wasn't. It came off with no issue so it was definitely laziness), there was toothpaste in the sink, & the floor was stained (I understand it's an older building & the staining is not the issue, just wanted to mention it.) It was very clear that whoever was in charge of cleaning the room dropped the ball.
A side note that when we returned to the hotel after our evening plans, there was who we assumed was an employee (the office door was open when we entered the hotel) & I'm assuming a friend of hers sitting on the front porch of the home & there was a very strong odor of weed. Neither of us care if you do it, but maybe not on the front porch of a "boutique hotel."
Overall super disappointed. We were both very excited to eat & stay at a new place & it seemed super convenient to have both in the same place. Unfortunately, it was a huge let down. We won't be returning (obviously) & won't be recommending The Town...
Read moreI can't recommend The Town House. It's not that they are horrible, it's just that they seem to lack a common "guest first" approach to service and they seem to struggle to get their act together.
The room. When we first checked into our room in their Guesthouse, we had to walk through a corridor that was being painted. The fumes in the room were so overpowering, that I requested a move. They graciously accommodated, but the owner acknowledged that if he had thought to check his reservations, he would not have scheduled any painting at all. And, when I pulled out the sofa to make the bed, I found a ton of trash underneath.
The restaurant. When we checked in, I asked if we needed reservations at the restaurant. I was assured we did not as things were slow that night. I noticed that written on the door, the restaurant hours were from 5 - 9. When we showed up at 8:20, I was told that the kitchen was closed. When I reminded them of what was written on the door, the response was that it was for the restaurant, but the kitchen closed at 8. I asked the receptionist to call the owner. No luck. I reminded her that I was a guest at the hotel and that I had mentioned that I wanted to eat at the restaurant when we checked in. Shoutly match ensued and we were turned away.
A few ways I feel they could have handled it better: 1- When I asked about dinner reservations, they could had made sure I knew that the kitchen closed at 8pm. 2 - When we didn't show up, someone could have said , "Hey, you know that old couple staying in the Guesthouse? They said they wanted to eat dinner tonight. Should I go and knock on their door to see if they still want to eat here?" 3- When we showed up at 8:20, clearly not understanding that we knew to come by 8, they could have said, "Hey, sorry about the communication disconnect. How about this: We'll throw a couple of steaks on the grill and fix a small salad and you two can take it back to your room to eat. Can this work?" Instead it is the condescending, so-sad-dad.
BTW, We ended up eating at Los Aztecas Restaurant. We came in at 8:50 (they were closing at 9) and they couldn't have been nicer! We were the only people there, but they served us, the food was great and I left a big tip!)
In summary: I really expect graciousness and "the guest's satisfaction is most important" attitude at any hotel I frequent. The forgetting to check before painting, the lack of thorough cleaning and the poor treatment at the restaurant, really makes it hard for me to...
Read moreWe attended my Niece's wedding there yesterday. We arrived on Sunday and Carol the Manager was very caring, polite and gave me a big hug when we arrived. My husband and I, plus two of our daughters and their four daughters slept in the Guest House. We had three bedrooms a full kitchen and a den. My one daughter made the wedding cake so it was perfect for that.
The main house has one bedroom downstairs and three bedrooms upstairs. This home is on the historical registry and it is beautiful. Check out the history on Facebook. Unfortunately, the kitchen in here did not work. It shut down during COVID and they have not reopened it, although I read some great reviews about it. Our family had access to whole the property and again, Carol was very accommodating with everything. We left today and would definitely recommend staying here if you are in the Buena Vista, Georgia area! The ceremony was so beautiful and the reception was fun. They had a cousin of the groom, Paul and his Dad, Uncle Red cook a great BBQ. Wish we didn't...
