I stayed at the California Motel because of an event I was attending in a nearby town. When I checked in the owners were very nice, but seemed to have trouble finding my booking. My reservation was finally found and I was given my key to my room, which was on the back side of the building. I was traveling alone with dogs, so I was surprised to find they put me in a room with no grass access (there was no public grass on the back side of the hotel- just someone's front yard). The hotel charged a $10/per pet fee because cleanliness was important, so I assumed I would walk into a very clean room. I was almost shocked to see the room. The paint was peeling, the baseboards were yellowing and dirty, there was a large hole in the comforter and the bathroom was dingy. Yes, this hotel is old and in desperate need of updating, but I was still surprised by the cleanliness of the room- especially since the owners were so concerned about the dogs in the room. Between the lack of grass access, the cleanliness of the room and the open-door argument occurring between upstairs guests I asked to change rooms. I was told twice my room could not be moved because "more guests were coming in"- guests who had not yet checked in- and was suggested to walk across the street "behind the building where there is a large parking lot with grass" to potty my dogs. Finally after 10 minutes of standing my ground I was able to change rooms. ||The second room I was given was much nicer. It was on the front side of the building which is well lit and had very close grass access. The room was larger and cleaner, with the exception of the smoke-saturated TV remote which I quickly learned not to touch. Bed was comfortable and I slept well. I did not shower because I was not prepared with appropriate shower shoes ( I didn't know I would need them). ||The owners were very nice and mostly accommodating, the internet was free and satellite TV was nice, but I will not stay in this hotel again for the semi-annual event I attend. I'm willing to drive a bit further for better facilities. I ended up paying $70 for this room between room fees and pet fees, which was...
Read moreOnline all of the prices for the hotel say $46. When I got there, we were charged $59. I asked them about it, and they listed off a bunch of excuses. It left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, but I understand that it's a small town. I was fine with paying that amount. I just wish they hadn't given me excuses for why the prices online weren't correct. The room was nothing special. It was apparent that there was a lot of patchwork on the walls and showers. You could tell that it was a small motel with limited resources, so if my 13 extra dollars helps them to repair the motel, that's fine with me. It was nothing special. I wouldn't bend over backwards to stay there again, but if I needed to stay in California, MO, I'd stay here because it's the only motel in...
Read moreThere was mold inside the shower, the walls haven't ever been wiped down. Literally as sitting on the toilet someone's burgers were on the wall that's less than a ft away from your face. Men's mustache hair was all over the sink. They put us in the back and the others had us up til 3am. You can literally sit n listen to they're whole conversation. But music was loud n they were doin alot of banging around. I dont recommend if ur a first timer to let them put you on the back side. From my understanding the nicer rooms are in front with much better view than...
