Beautiful location, but don't recommend unless quality & honesty of service is improved
We got married here, and had some great moments that were shadowed by disappointments including changes after signing the contract and poor customer service. We gave them tens of thousands of dollars and our guests gave thousands more. We were so happy and excited to be at such a beautiful place. It was surprising and disappointing we were not treated with kindness or respect.
The Cliff House was described as a “bed and breakfast” with a full kitchen, dining, and living rooms and if we rented the entire house, we could host “whatever events we want” there. After signing the contract, I asked what was in the kitchen. I was told, “there’s no dishes, it’s not an Air BnB. You're not allowed to use the kitchen.” That was a BIG disappointment as we had planned on cooking for multiple events. I was told, "if you didn’t like it, go somewhere else." (our deposit was non-refundable and invites had already gone out).
We were told the chef accommodates any dietary restrictions. It is in writing in the packet. During the tasting, when asking for modifications, I was told, “pick something else, or go somewhere else." It didn’t help the food tasted like it'd been under a heat lamp for an hour. The same with the cake, so I got it elsewhere. I was then told there is a cake cutting fee. This was not in the packet or contract. Side note: The food at the actual wedding was wonderful.
I was told there were speakers we could use. There were not.
Neither the fireplace or heater was working at the Cliff House. We'd been assured before signing the contract 5 months earlier it would be functional. Since the house depends on the fireplace for heat and the central heater was also broken, guests had to wear coats for our events. We paid thousands a night for this space.
The rehearsal dinner was a disaster. We had 20 people. I was told it was too large for the restaurant, so it had to be catered at the Cliff House or “go somewhere else.” (See a theme?). We didn’t want to drive, so we paid for the catered buffet. We were NOT aware they'd cook each meal one-by-one. It took over 2 hours. We didn’t get to eat together. It was also not allergen-free, as requested.
A layout for the reception showing “exactly who is sitting where” was required. I provided a diagram of table/people locations. Upon our entrance (choreographed and filmed) I led my groom to the windows where our table was supposed to be, and found a dirty appetizer table. The entire layout had been changed without my knowledge. Instead of viewing the cliffs behind us during speeches, our guests stared at the blank wall next to the bar. I was embarrassed.
While away from the table during the reception, our plates were taken–well before the end and we were starving. (Outside of this, the servers/bartenders were wonderful.)
Multiple guests called me in a panic saying the hotel was sold out. This was when the hotel told me I hadn’t met my contracted room quota. When asked, I was told, “I don’t know who told them that, but that’s a lie. Those people just didn’t want to pay the price of our rooms.”
A guest's room was almost canceled when she didn’t answer an unknown number and the hotel didn't leave a voicemail.
Nearly every guest experienced issues with the desk staff. All mentioned the person was rude and unprofessional. No specific requests were available upon checkin, including accommodations for dogs, and a baby crib. The woman needing the crib was told it wasn’t in the notes (she’d called to confirm twice), so she wasn’t getting one. For another, a pole blocked their bathroom and they had to request it be removed multiple times.
What was really awful - while multiple guests were at check-in, the desk person complained to their associate about “f**ing white people”.
It was disheartening to not be treated nicely. It's not a place we will make a point to return, which is unfortunate as it could have been a...

These are three things I believe I would not have any issues with during my stay 😒The customer service started out good when I called last Tuesday and was given a run down of what is open and available to the public on the property and that they have great WiFi connectivity. When I arrived Saturday evening I was greeted by two ladies who gave me the initial run down on my rooms location and eve thing that is available on the property including how to access the WiFi in my Room. When I got to my room I noticed I lost my reception so I thought it is ok there is WiFi so there was no need to panic. When my Fiancé tried to get WiFi on both of our phone the WiFi wouldn’t even populate and when it did the signal was weak. So I called the Front desk and was told that the WiFi connection is not so great because so many ppl are using it and it will get better after 11:30 the next day as ppl checkout. I then asked on property where the best WiFi signal was and she stated it was in the lobby. I walked over to the lobby to test the WiFi connection and see if there were computer for use and neither the WiFi or the utilization of the computers made anything better. I then asked a young lady at the desk if I could access the Ragged-security WiFi cause it has better signal strength and she flat out told me that I needed to drive off property and drive until I get reception. She then proceed to watch videos on social media and not realize I was not happy with the service. So the next morning I got up at 7:00 am and walked around property to see where the best signal strength was before my meeting at 8:20 am. I got the best service outside my room in the cold and thought to myself that this is ridiculous I paid over 300$ for one night and have to go through this trouble for WiFi ? So I went to the lobby once again and was told by another bigger lady that I had to drive off property for reception and if I called last Tuesday and she picked up the phone she would of told me that the WiFi was not good here (terrible customer service). My fiancé and I then had to turn on the computers in the lobbies ourselves as the employees at the desk were gossiping about co-workers and stating how management has poor training skills that are not effective. This is not appropriate to have a conversation like that in front of guest. So my fiancé ask the front desk worker to help get the computers started and get the internet connected and the worker caught a bit of attitude and said we need to go off property and she wouldn’t be able to help us. I was missing a huge part of an important meeting for church and had to drive 30 minutes past a light house in order to get reception and join this meeting. At this point I am very upset because of the Inconvenience. Lucky I made my meeting and was finished at 11:30. I had to rush and drive back in order to pack my clothes out the room and leave and as I was stepping out the door we got a phone call but continued to throw our luggage in our car because we wanted to just head home. As my fiancé and I were finally walking out with our last piece of luggage, the bigger employee was walking fast down the hill towards us yelling out loud in public that we were late to checkout and we’re going to be charged another night. Very unprofessional to be yelling out loud in front of other guest and cause A scene. I was embarrassed at this point. I told her I would be calling management to discuss this issues and she smiled out me and said her name is Cindy and she would take care of this issue. I do not want to speak to Cindy because Cindy will not solve this issues because her employee do not respect her training skills. I as a manager would never tolerate this behavior. This is a beautiful resort but it turns ugly from the employees who work there and not being truthful about the WiFi. I was given false information from the get go and will never return...

Let me start by saying: the cliffs around this hotel are stunning. Like, “should I propose to myself?” stunning. Majestic, peaceful, and 100% not affiliated with the rest of the hotel experience.
The Restaurant: 🥴
After a long drive, we were ready for a solid meal and a stiff drink. I ordered a gin & club soda, even asked if they had Hendrick’s. The waitress nodded with the confidence of someone who had never checked. Twenty minutes later, I received… a glass of club soda. Just soda. When I asked where the gin was, she paused, blinked, and informed me they don’t have gin.
Cool cool cool.
I said, “Okay, vodka then?” “Oh,” she replied. “The bartender’s gone.”
Gone. Just vanished.
This was after already waiting 20 minutes for water and menus. But the view was doing all the heavy lifting, so we stayed hopeful. That was mistake #1.
I ordered the mushroom soup and a salad. Simple. Foolproof. Or so I thought.
Thirty minutes later, the soup arrived. It was… brown. Not mushroom brown—more like “mud puddle after a flood” brown. Watery, lukewarm, sad. But I gave it a shot because I’m not fancy.
Second spoonful: surprise! A chewy fairly large treat that turned out to be a large strip of plastic, like the kind you’d cut off a bag of soup. I chewed on it like a goat before realizing it was plastic.
Told the waitress. She quietly took it away like we were never supposed to talk about it again. No offer to replace it. Just disappeared into the night like the gin.
Then came my “salad,” which was not cheap for a small salad. It was literally a plate of lettuce with a few vegetables diced on top like confetti at a party no one came to.
At this point, I was tired, starving, and emotionally raw, so I went rogue and ordered dessert—a rare move. The waitress said they had key lime pie. I got excited. A few minutes later, she returned with chocolate cake because, “We’re out of key lime, so I brought this instead!”
Small problem: I’m VERY allergic to chocolate.
Finally, she brought out a slice of cheesecake in a to-go box like she was quietly ushering me off the premises.
Look, I don’t blame the waitress—she was clearly trying her best while the entire operation crumbled around her like my will to live. But this restaurant should not be open. Period. It feels like a high school theater production of a restaurant, except everyone forgot their lines and set the kitchen on fire.
🛏️ The Hotel: Rustic but fine… for a night.
Now, let’s talk about the actual hotel. It’s rustic. And I say that as a New Yorker who has done summer camp, house shares, and once accidentally booked a hotel that turned out to be a treehouse.
Basically, the room is an interior space inside a big shared lodge. No elevator, so it’s stairs or bust. You do have your own room (which was huge), but you’ll be tiptoeing around the common areas like you’re in a live-in library. I felt like I should whisper in my room.
The room itself was… fine-ish. Dated, but not in a charming way—more like “grandma’s sewing room meets a dentist’s waiting area.”
• The ceiling fan didn’t work.
• The floor fan had a one-hour timer.
That said, it was cool outside, so I didn’t melt. And honestly, it gave big “visiting your broke cousins in rural Ohio” energy.
The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location. And wow, the cliffs around it are absolutely stunning—like, take-your-breath-away beautiful. Which is helpful, because you’ll need something to distract you while you wait 40 minutes for a lukewarm bowl of soup and a side of existential despair.
Would I return? Only if I’m kidnapped and dragged there unconscious. And even then, I’d ask to just be tossed off the cliff instead. At least the view is amazing on...
