I am leaving this review to help someone else that is planning to celebrate one of the most important days of their life. Although the Norumbega appeared to be the foundation of a memorable wedding I couldn’t look past the lackadaisical approach to wedding planning. After discussing the basic details over email, I excitedly scheduled a tour with a pleasant tour guide. Lasting about 15-20 minutes, I was able to traverse Norumbega’s grounds while asking questions to which half had to be left unanswered. When I spoke with the tour guide they shared that they did not know much about the elopement details because they’re still learning. This is where I was told my questions would have to be referred up their hierarchy chain and that someone would reach back out to me for further discussion. Abby said she would ask Will then call me back on Sunday. After waiting a month, I called to speak with the Norumbega team to solidify details before submitting a deposit.
I called looking to reconnect with the tour guide I whom provided the tour, but unbeknownst to me I was connected with Upper Management. Although I had the person on the phone who i’d think would be more than equipped to iron out the details of what an elopement at Norumbega looks like I gave the option to speak at another time. I gave this option after I was told that who I was looking for worked on weekends and I didn’t want to interrupt their business during a week day. The person on the phone then identified themselves as the owner and I believed that I was going to get the answers I’ve been looking for. Instead of rescheduling a time for further discussion or gaining a better understand of what the Norumbega provides beyond a wedding envisioned by them the conversation mimicked one of which you’d have with a kid at their lemonade stand.
The concern was that they felt that I had too many questions. These questions were of any wedding: “What happens in case of rain?”, “what is your flower selection?”, “can we bring our own speakers for music?”, “do you have an example of what will be served for the dinner?”. Somehow this compelled the owner to state things such as , “majority our profits do not come from the elopements.”, “we answered all your questions and you’re still calling about things we can’t control, like the weather.”and “I don’t think this is going to work.” Making it clear he did not want to move forward with me.
In the moment I was thrown off and apologized for making him irate but as anyone would do, you’d ask questions before making any deposit. It left me feeling very uncomfortable with the lack of professionalism as well as preparation to answer questions that I thought were sensible. I never thought asking questions about your wedding would cause such tension. Other than that, the Norumebga Inn itself is ideal for someone looking for an intimate gathering. As long as having a wedding thrown together for you by strangers this exactly where you’d want to have the most memorable moment...

Our recent stay at The Norumbega Inn was nothing short of extraordinary. Nestled in the charming seaside town of Camden, Maine, this historic stone mansion provided the perfect blend of luxury, warmth, and thoughtful hospitality. My husband Jonathan and I stayed in the Penthouse Suite for four unforgettable nights to celebrate his birthday, and it exceeded every expectation.
From the moment we checked in, we were greeted with seamless service and genuine warmth from Abby, the innkeeper, whose morning smiles and attention to detail made us feel right at home. The Penthouse Suite itself was stunning—a spacious retreat with breathtaking views, a private balcony, and thoughtful amenities that catered to every need. The freestanding tub, paired with a separate shower, was the ultimate indulgence after days spent exploring the surrounding area. The inclusion of a fridge with a freezer and ice machine, along with oat milk for my morning coffee, was a small but deeply appreciated touch.
The daily fresh-baked cookies were a delightful treat, but the real star was the breakfast. Every morning, we were greeted with a chef-crafted meal that was both creative and delicious—easily rivaling the finest restaurants. One evening, we had the pleasure of enjoying a pop-up dinner with a guest chef at the inn, an intimate dining experience that elevated our stay even further.
While the suite was so comfortable we hardly needed to leave, the location of The Norumbega made venturing out a joy. Just minutes from downtown Camden and a short drive to nearby nature preserves, hiking trails, and other quaint towns, it’s perfectly positioned for exploring Midcoast Maine. Even in the winter, the surrounding beauty was awe-inspiring, and we can only imagine how magical it will be in warmer weather.
The impeccable service extended beyond Abby. The entire team, including Will and Brett, went out of their way to ensure our stay felt special. From the well-maintained property to their warm hospitality, every detail was perfectly executed.
The Norumbega Inn is not just a place to stay; it’s an experience we will cherish and eagerly anticipate repeating. Whether for a romantic getaway, a special celebration, or simply a peaceful retreat, it offers a rare blend of comfort, charm, and culinary excellence. We left feeling rejuvenated and already planning our return—this time when we can enjoy the lush gardens and warm coastal breezes of Camden in the summer.
Highly recommend: This is the kind of place that lingers in your heart long...
Read moreWe shared a wonderful weekend with friends at The Norumbega Inn. A few days in advance, The Inn had sent us late check-in instructions. This was good as we didn't know it at the time but we were to be delayed in northbound traffic on the interstate departing Boston. We were late and the check-in instructions worked perfectly. Great communications.
The Norumbega Inn is just North of Camden on US 1 but sits off the road slightly. The building is truly a sight to see, resembling a glorious castle of old days. Originally built in 1886 the architecture is amazing and the restoration had to of been a major undertaking in 2022. Fixtures and infrastructure were modernized but everything else looks to have been restored to its original beauty. The interiors are artisan featuring lots of wood and curved moldings, a library and even a piano. The main level features the dining area, outdoor covered dining, bar, library, reception, piano and access to the rooms. The outdoor seating areas, grounds and parking areas are well lit, safe, immaculate and beautifully landscaped. A back staircase provides a secondary exit. All the rooms are well appointed, have fantastic linens and thoughtful furnishings as well as en-suite bathrooms, designer toiletries, flat screen TV and WiFi. Self serve coffee and tea is available in the hall on each level. Some rooms have separate living areas, fireplace, water views, clawfoot tubs and private deck.
There is a chef inspired hot breakfast (Chef Marymarcel) that changes daily. Later in the day, the bar and small plate offerings are simply fabulous. These are also open to the public on Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays 4:00 to 6:45pm.
Many thanks to the hosts and staff for making our stay very special. Paulo (cook), Ali ,Sam (housekeepers), Sara (housekeeper / bar server), Shirley (housekeeper / bar server) Will, Brett and Abbe.
