We arrived last Sunday, August 6th, 2023 and checked it to Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel. Upon entering the room we noticed that to get to the bedroom you had to climb a narrow, wooden, spiral staircase. We called the front desk and told them that was a problem for us, that at our age we didnt feel safe to climb up to the bedroom. We were told there was another unit with no stair’s available but they could not change room because we were there using a RCI exchange (we traded our beautiful mountain timeshare in the Smoky Mountains to stay at Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel). We now know that was a huge mistake. My wife slept downstairs on the full size murphy bed and i climbed the stairs and slept in the bedroom. Many of the activities we were interested in were closed while we were there except for golf. We ate breakfast on Monday at 57North restaurant in the hotel ( I may have the name wrong). Food and service were good; however, the hostress was snarky and rude when she checked our names on the guest list and said to us, “ You do know that your breakfast is not free with your stay don’t you?!?” Of course we did but felt the comment was not friendly or necessary. When we made the reservation were were told there was a pool at the hotel. There is not. They have a pool down the road and charge guests $12 per person per day to use the pool. Late Monday evening it rained and continued to rain all night. At about 4:30 am the ceiling started leaking. Drip, drip, drip the rest of the night. Carpet was wet in the main living room and it was scheduled to rain all day. We felt the customer service was terrible. Very unhelpful. We felt we were treated like second class guests because we had used RCI to book this weeklong vacation. By Tuesday morning we had experienced enough and decided to check out. We did check-out and once again were told because we were Using RCI there was nothing they could do. At this point having been there less than 48 hours we were happy to get out of Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel. We booked accommodations elsewhere and now are enjoying our Maine vacation.

There are not enough superlatives to describe the quality of service and attention to detail that carissa and I recieved during our Christmas week stay at the sugarloaf mountain hotel. Every employee we encountered was helpful and courteous to a fault! The front desk and valets were professional and prompt, the staff at 45 North were top notch, even making special orders for my lady without even being asked!! Thanks Donny!! The place is spotless because the cleaning staff, whatever you needed just appeared at your door. The lift ops were friendly and helpful, taking photos for us! The snow makers...we love them all, every one....a major meltdown just before we arrived and two days later I'm getting sweet soft turns....and all of this during the week of Christmas. Dedicated, professional people doing their jobs exceptionally well! The weather is capricious, you get what you get....but the staff at the Sugarloaf mountain hotel is guaranteed good!

Hoping to be able to change this review. Currently sitting in the lobby at 4:40 pm waiting on our room to be cleaned for 4:00 pm check in. My bill was paid in full an entire week ahead of our vacation ($1985.00-4 nights) We came early (11:30) to get a day of skiing in. Did the whole pre- check in then. Have been waiting for a phone call to say our room is ready. That call still has not come. A new room was finally offered, on the first floor around the corner from the lobby. Granted our original room is only on the second floor but it’s not near the lobby. Also, we were offered the opportunity to pay for an upgrade to a different room as well. That’s not happening! The resort has already charged my credit card a $200.00 room deposit for a room I am not in. They have offered a $25.00 credit for our inconvenience but no guarantee as to when the room will be ready. The saying of the day.......”Check-in BEGINS at 4:00”. Betcha check out will be promptly at 11:00......We were checked in by 5:00 pm. Heard from some guests that they waited until 8:00 pm for their room to be ready.

So, I am happy to report the trip did get better. Since the check in fiasco, the staff has been extremely helpful. They have also been flexible with minor changes in our reservation package and accommodating to a bad weather closed mountain day. (Absolutely no skiing due to extreme high winds). The hotel is a fantastic location and the skiing has been amazing. The skiers in my party are double black diamond skiers and were impressed with this East Coast destination. The pool is located off site and and extra cost unless it’s built into your package. The on resort transportation system is wonderful so no need to even move your car once parked. There is a 30 person hot tub that is great after a day of skiing but often gets used like a pool for kids who’s parents don’t want to take their kids down to the fitness center to swim. Also, there is no shower or locker room attached to the hot tub. Slightly inconvenient. The breakfast is worth having. Very nice. The village is convenient and walkable with plenty of friendly keepers. Lacking is common area and a teen hangout space, game room. Not much to do if you don’t ski or the weather makes it impossible to ski. 4 stars given because of the fantastic skiing, location and friendly staff. 3.5 might be a better rating. The Hotel could use some upgrades and thoughtful changes with...

I have stayed here before and loved it so take this with a grain of salt but I'm not really sure whats going on this place. First off they only gave us 1 ski locker for 8 people so we had to keep some stuff behind the desk, which would be fine if the staff didn't act burdened every time you need to get your snowboard ( believe it or not pretty frequently at a ski mountain!!). Then there is the hot tub, which is pretty much the main reason I stay here.It is a giant outdoor hot tub right at the base and its amazing. Well due to covid you can only have parties of up to 8 people at a time, or 8 people total from different parties...okay but if you all drove in the same cars and are staying in the same room doesnt make sense to leave out the 9th person. You cant book the hot tub more than once in a 24 hour span, which again i understand if other people want to use it, but if there's an open space, who does it hurt to have people in there. They also patrol the hut tub like a hawk to make sure you are abiding by the rules. Last but very much not least, the walls are PAPER THIN and they have this great new policy where if you get a noise complaint, they dont give a courtesy call to ask you to quiet down, but they send a cop on the very first call! seems a little dramatic. also doesn't seem very covid friedly to have someone personally go to your door and ask for an ID instead of just calling and telling you to quiet down. I've been skiing at sugarloaf for 26 years and love this mountain to death, but the staff at the hotel and the new covid rules make it less than inviting for a...
