My wife and I went there on friday the 24th of June and didn't actually pull into the campgrounds till 9:30pm or 9:45 pm. We were told by the Ranger that we had to go up to the front office to check in and so we did so. Went up there and told this kid we wanted to stay all day Saturday and Sunday and was charged 60 dollars for two days witch is technically 48 hours. Check my receipt the next morning and the kid who checked us in wrote down that we checked in at 4pm Friday and said we had to be go eat from our camp grounds by 2pm on Sunday. Now to me if I'm paying 60 dollars for 48 hours I think we should be able to stay 48 hours. I'm truly upset about that whole ordeal and that's knew reason I'll never return. Secondly the beach is only open from 10 am till 7 pm and it states in the park that it's open till dusk. Witch is technically 9pm or so because it dont start getting dark till 930ish. The beach was packed and people were ride and inconsiderate, life guards didnt pay no attention to anything that was going on. I guess that's what you get when you hire kids to look after other kids and their interests are not with anything but the opisist sex if you k ow what I mean. Thirdly they have one bath house to accommodate tones of people and the bathrooms are in the shower house also. So there for if you want to get a shower or use the bathroom room and you are not located on campground 2 you are walking a long distance or fighting traffic to get to them. Last but not least. We paid for a campground with electric hook up and we realize at 11 PM that feiday that we needed a converter that only the store sells to use electric. They charged me an extra 6.50 for the power converter and we had to wait till the store opened the next morning. Needless to say this place is awful and not very kid nor camper friendly. I highly recommend anyone looking for a good place to go to try else where. You'll have alot more fun. Untill I get a refund for my expenses that were ruined I'll tell everyone how awful this place is. Silly buffalo state Park in Cadiz ohio or piedmont marina camp grounds in Piermont ohio or barkcamp state parks in Belmont ohio are your best bets people. Don't waist your time...
Read moreBeautiful place, nice improvements on campsites but I would not return. It's the kind of place that only permits you what they are selling. No inflatable devices, even for our friends 2 year old son, the life guard made them remove his waterwings citing they are not approved by the coast guard. Hello, we are no where near the coast. I am visiting post op neck surgery nearing 5 weeks and I am not permitted to use a tune to float on from the only place where swimming is permitted from the shore. The only other swimming location is accessible by boat but the water is literally only about 1-2 feet deep. Even boat rentals are monopolized by Atwood lake boat rentals who own the rental places on either side of the lake. The only boat rentals worth the money is available for 5 days from mon-friday. Otherwise you are stuck from early morning and have to return well before dark. You can't get off the boat in the water and no fish bite at the largest portion of your day on the boat. I would not return but if you have your own boat and don't care about homeowner association like rules and regulations such as no one is permitted in the sand of the beach while lifeguards take a break, which makes the goose poop ridden grass the only alternative, than Atwood lake and campground is for you. Oh, and you won't find but 1 place to purchase firewood that is not owned by the park. It's down rt 212 a little past dollar general. You can at least get a $5 bundle that weighs more...
Read moreHusband and I decided we wanted to go fishing. Had never been to Atwood Lake before. When we arrived we first past the damn area and it was a nice little park with several people picnicking and fishing. We continued on our way to the park. We passed a few areas along the way (marina) and drove through them. They have very nice public restrooms and plenty of parking there.||There is a very nice welcome building. We asked about fishing. One of the attendants spoke up and said “there is no fishing area” and another grabbed a map which is very difficult to read in my opinion. She pointed to a fishing pier.||||We made our way to the “fishing pier” and found a small pier with4 people on it and it was completely full. That was it. That was the fishing area. In a small cove area.||We decided to look for something else.||We ended up parking in a camping area and walking down to a boat ramp. While there we saw ton of happy boaters pass by.||||The lake is very large but in our opinion only functional if you have a boat and perhaps in the camping areas they have fishing areas, we don’t know.||To be fair, there was a very small beach area and large inflatable slides(VERY expensive, i think it was $40 a day per person).||||||If we do decide to go back to the area I think we would pack a picnic and stop at the dam area and eat there and fish.||The lake and facilities are kept up nicely (except no sink to watch your hands in the restrooms at the dam site) and it...
