TL:DR version: This is a beautiful hotel at a great price but has very basic amenities. If you are staying for one night, this is perfect. For families and those staying 3 or more nights, I would recommend a Hampton Inn.
I'm a Hilton Honors member and loyal to the Hilton Hotel chain. The price for Tru couldn't be beat. For the most part, we didn't have any issues with the hotel that were not part of the hotel design. The only fixable issue was the dirty floors in our room. They were dirty from the start so we requested to have them mopped. That was an improvement but by the next morning, our feet were black with dirt just from walking around the room. We left our shoes just inside the doorway so I'm not sure why the floors were filthy. It's possible that the dirt was tracked in from the hallways.
As far as the hotel design, we had never stayed at a Tru Hotel so we were not aware of the very basic amenities. It feels like a hotel designed for people who don't know what niceties they are missing out on. Upon arriving we saw a beautiful hotel on a hill tucked away from the interstate. The lobby and dining area is beautiful with ample room to sit at breakfast or anytime. There is a pool table. Of course the swimming pool was closed for Fall. Breakfast is pretty good. The pancake maker was a hit. Once in the actual room, it was disappointing to find that there were not a dresser, wardrobe, microwave, or coffee maker. There isn't an exhaust fan in the bathroom. No shower cap or other amenities. There is a hair dryer. I was really looking forward to unpacking since we were visiting for a few days. Instead we had to live out of suitcases. There is of course coffee in the lobby that is supposed to be available 24 hours. It usually was and if not, we were able to request it. As someone who enjoys waking up and having my coffee in the room before seeing people, in room coffee is my preference. We did enjoy being very close to hike Pine Mountain and definitely recommend that to anyone who stays here. Overall, not a fan of the Tru...
Read moreNew budget friendly hotel by the Hilton chain. It's ok.
Pros: Bed was very comfortable. Has lots of colors? Optimized for storage
Cons: Tiny room Minimalistic - one small rolling chair, tiny desk No cups. No ice bucket. WHY THO? Feels cheap - cheap interior, cheap furnishing Walls don't isolate sound well from other rooms. Temperature control was a joke. Thermostat was set on 70 and I woke up sweating.
I saw an ice machine but to be in your PJs and wanting to have a drink before bed only to find out there weren't any cups - glass or disposable - was annoying.
Similarly, the room temp stability was awful. I'm not sure if it wasn't working optimally or just poorly designed. I kept bumping the temp down but it'd return to the "warm and sticky" setting.
Also a con. We were there in early April and staff weren't wearing masks. We've had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated before a lot of folks so a single employee out of 7+ that we saw wearing masks will bother others. Half weren't even pretending to wear them as chin diapers. The hotel clearly states that masks are required on the front door.
Would definitely choose another hotel in the area and would probably not choose this particular chain again, especially if I'm traveling for business. Not enough space or silence for...
Read moreI don't give 5 star ratings easily but this place was the most thoughtfully laid out, clean, and well run hotel I've been to. And yes, I've been to plenty of "high end" hotels...
When you walk in the door the vibe here is that everyone is welcome. There are lots of seating vignettes, a pool table, snack bar, and 24/7 coffee bar. Great color palette, super clean, and the front desk guy was just the best. He felt more like a helpful friend, not just someone doing their job.
We got a 2 queen room and again the design was super thoughtful. Instead of curtains, there were 2 blinds on the window, one of which was set into the frame so every ounce of light is blocked. Instead of tiny bottles of shampoos, conditioners, and soaps (that don't have enough product and get tossed into the landfill) they have very nice dispensers filled with luxury, high end, moisturizing hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The floors were a nice hardwood laminate instead of carpet, great tv (if you're into that) and again everything was spotless and super clean.
Breakfast was nice and the staff took care to make sure everyone had what they needed. Check out was easy and overall it was just a really nice place to stay. This would be a great location for groups but is equally as good for families...
