My lady friend and I decided to turn a simple trip for a Kentucky wedding into an all out tour of America from North Carolina to and through the Blue Grass State and back. I will not bore you with the decision making process, but shall just say that there was little question we would be staying in Wigwam village that evening. It was March, it was cold and we were excited. I will be posting a picture of Erin about to enter the Wigwam shortly. Her excitement is palpable. We came supplied with a fine array of Kentucky spirits, and other camping type equipment. As it turns out, this was all quite necessary. The small space heater said the room was 56 degrees upon arrival and appeared to be fully cranked up. We were not deterred. We promptly took a shot of Four Roses and commenced to tour the grounds. The immediate plan B for warmth was to continue drinking bourbon all night around a nice fire, but upon inspection, the fire pit had no wood, and the office did not sell any. Alas, plan C would have to be uncorked (after more bourbon). We did not have a plan C, but decided some vigorous exercise on play ground equipment would get the blood flowing for a time. There appeared to only be three functional items and we were determined to try them all. First up was a tire swing...not any tire swing mind you but one configured to be like a saddle. Since you could not simultaneously touch the ground and be in the swing, this was problematic for the males in the group (me). Plus the swing tightly put you in a sandwich style grip that would have been difficult to extract yourself from in any circumstance. The second object of our desire was a large plastic tube maze thing. It was full of standing water and if it were anything above 40 degrees outside, we surely would have been gleefully rolling and sliding through it, but decided to move on. To satisfy my need to slide though, the third piece of equipment was a vintage sliding board. It appeared to have been expertly repaired a time or two so I climbed its majesty with my plastic cup of bourbon and to the dismay of my lady friend, plunged feet first down it. Everything went fine. Did you think it wouldn't? Neither did I. The playground time lasted about an hour. Upon our return to the room, the temperature thankfully had risen to 57 degrees. We would be warm after all. In the morning we decided to explore Cave City itself. It was once a motor lodge haven and is lined with many fine establishments harking back to the heyday of seeing the US with the family through the windows of a station wagon. It is quite lovely. The main historical stretch is filled with Kitschy antique shops. Magalines is the best! I will review it on Google soon as well! If you are ever there and see a picture of an owl drawn by a second grader with two different eyes don't touch it! We're coming back for it! One day.... Sadly, after lunch at the Cream and Sugar Cafe we had to move on. We will always remember Cave City. It treated us well. My bucket list now list includes staying at the other two remaining WigWam...

I was beyond excited to stay the the Wigwam Village Inn, Cave City, Ky. Upon first entry, I thought "How cozy, dated but quaint. Jjust the place I could relax and reflect. Until... I was rudely awakened... HUGE BED BUGS! I almost scalped myself, trying to check to see if anything was on me. I quickly packed up my belongings (Tied everything I could in plastic bags) and threw it in the trunk of my car. I was able to kill one and take one hostage in a zip lock baggie to show the owners in the morning. I went to sleep in my car since it was so late/early and I was too sleepy to drive around looking for vacancies at 2ish am. One thing was certain NO WAY was I crawling back into that infested bed (with at least 3 to 4 clearly visible bed bugs)! After scratching for a few minutes, I decided to share my discovery with the office/home of the Wigwam family (never got their actual names), regardless of the time. I understand being rudely awakened in the middle of the night (see above). Mrs. Wigwam looked confused, inspecting the bag after I showed her pictures and two different videos, then said "We've never had this problem before, people bring them." I asked for the card that Mrs. Wigwam wrote my credit card information on, but she did nothing. By this time Mr. Wigwam, came out from the shadows and said we are a business and we won't charge you, as he rushed me out the door. Luckly, I didn't give them the key when I left them with the Bag-O-Bug. Shortly after retreating to my car and parking beside my designated wigwam, Mr. Wigwam called me asking if I was going to stay. I told him I was going to sleep in my car, so he asked for the key. I quickly said "I will bring you the key if you give me my information card." When I returned, he had my card in hand and stepped outside (We didn't want to wake daughter Wigwam). I explained again, that I have never slept in a bed with bed bugs, but I have pictures and video to show him if he would like to see. He said, "We didn't have anyone say anything about us all last year and not this year either." He gave me the card and I gave him the key. He assured me that he was going to call the "pest man" tomorrow (Hopefully he will). I asked if I could park my car on the property while I tried to sleep. He asked me if Wigwam #3 was locked (as if I was going to return to the scene of the crime). I told him, "Of course, I wouldn't just leave it unlocked, but you could go check." He pointed to the front parking lot and said hesitantly, you can park up front. So hopefully, no one tries to finish me off while I sit in my car (feeling creepy crawly) until its somewhat light outside, praying that I don't have...

I would like to say first and foremost that I'm not one to complain or cause an issue. However, we reserved our room and was extremely excited to stay here since we both had remembered this from our childhood. We were very prepared for it to be somewhat aged but did expect cleanliness and to feel safe. The bed was bowed in the middle and the footboard was covered in dust as well as the curtains on both windows. The shower curtain had 3 hooks along with the shower resembling a "pit" with no lighting except for one small light in the bathroom above the sink (the 2nd light above the sink did not work). The toilet would not flush unless you pushed the handle and held the entire time it was flushing. I then saw 2 very large water bugs crawling across the floor and then noticed that the door had very large spaces that looked as if part of the door had been broken off around the corners at the bottom. I immediately went to the office and told the lady working and she explained that they couldn't help the bugs because the wigwams are level with the ground. She was nice however and agreed to move us to wigwam #15. We found that #15 was somewhat cleaner but had some horrid stench of liquor, smoke, and lysol combined. There was no toilet paper. The bed appeared to be in better condition but upon investigating the mattress and sheets (I do this everywhere I stay by the way just due to the bed bug issue and no matter how clean a place is, bed bugs can be a problem) and found that the mattress had some type of black stains on it and the mattress cover had yellow stains all over it. The curtains once again had a layer of dust on both windows that looked as if it hadn't been washed in months. I then proceeded to the "ice machine" and found it was an open bag of ice in a deep freeze that everyone had been dipping into. Not sanitary at all. I had enough and went to the office where a gentleman became extremely upset with me when I told him that we would not be spending the night here. He told me that I would not be getting a refund and I told him that I was not interested in my refund but that I really expected something more than what we found. He told me that the place is old and I should not have expected anything more. I explained that these wigwams were around when I was a child and I was well aware of that they were going to be aged but age and cleanliness are two different issues. I do NOT recommend spending $67 here at all. If I could have given it a half star I would have. The half star would have only been due to the friendliness of the first lady that moved us...
