White pines motel In Salamanca NY
We decided to stay at White Pines on this last minute trip as they stated they had a hot tub. When we arrived, the sign by the front desk and the front desk girl stated Hot tub and pool were “Under Renovation.” I was suspicious of the reason given but didn’t say anything My wife and the kids were looking forward to soaking their tired feet after a long day on the slopes so they were disappointed. I stopped by the pool and it was clear that there was no renovation going on. The pool and hot tub were empty. There was a piece of wood like it had been there for years. My wife told me afterwards that there were reviews from at least the past 4 years that there was no pool or hot tub to use. We didn’t look further in the reviews to see how long the pool has been “under renovation.” I understand that sometimes a business will not be able to afford to fix something. The appropriate response is that they shouldn’t advertise an amenity that hasn’t been and clearly isn’t going to be available for the foreseeable future. Sunday morning we were awoken at 6 am to the fire alarm going off and then the fireman pounding on the door. We were informed that the sprinkler system had failed and we must grab our belongings and vacate the building. I understand that unforeseen events happen. But as my family were in the lobby to leave, the fireman said to the front desk attendant that “my chief will be here” shortly. He said he didn’t know the exact protocol to reopen the hotel from last time it had been closed. He (the firechief) will tell you so that you can get occupancy/reopen asap. So this isn’t the first time this has happened. So we drove 3 hrs Sat morning to Holiday Valley. Ski’d all day and retired to our 2 rooms about 9:30 pm Sat night. We left as required by the fire dept. It was about 6:25 am when we got the kids and us packed and ready. The breakfast White pines was to provide was cancelled before it started. So we left and knew we had to wait until 8 am to return my younger daughters rental ski equipment. So we got breakfast at the first cafe to open at 7:30am. We spent $100 on this and headed home to Ohio. I understand that the cost of breakfast isn’t on the hotel but we had to get food bc their breakfast was cancelled and we had a 3 hour drive plus waiting for the ski rental house to open. Before we left we asked the front desk attendant if we could expect a refund. She said perhaps a partial refund. They charged us full price!! I don’t believe this was adequate compensation. This left our trip ending on a sour note. This was not the agreed upon transaction. It is false advertising with the hot tub. I feel like they handled...
Read moreOn a day I decided to let go of monetary things and begin a life of simplicity in a cruel world. It was me and my daughter on the path of something more peaceful. We were supposed to stay with relatives but it went wrong. We stopped at BK, parked, and as I was thinking we'd end up sleeping outside my daughter says "isn't that a hotel" pointing to the casino. I replied yes but its a casino too and im not sure if I can bring you there. Then I turned and seen this place. I said lets go see if this place has rooms. They did. I didn't have my drivers license (I left it in a bag in the car) but this woman was so kind in the matter and gave us a room without me having to dig it out. She also gave us a breakfast slip to pre-order breakfast in the morning. My daughter being 11 years old was excited about this simple pre ordering breakfast slip (simple things in life), she just loved this place in general. After we settled in and ate our BK, I said im tired, I cant turn in this breakfast slip, I feel like im about to drop (two days of putting stuff in storage, and lack of sleep, I was beyond exhausted). For the first time in my daughter's life she did something without me, she took that slip, filled it out and took it to the front desk, because she said the person at the desk was kind so she didn't fear returning the slip without me. That alone was priceless. This kid saw kindness, thats not something we often see, and made a profound statement as well. The next day the staff were still happy and kind. Why do I mention that above all? Because we aren't very nice to each other in this world, so on a day we probably looked rough, someone still had patience, understanding and kindness, that speaks volumes in my opinion. The next day my daughter was telling friends about this hotel and I said "its on a reservation" and she said "that makes sense doesn't the peacekeeper live there" I realized she pays attention to the things I say. Days before our move I was talking to a friend about the Hopi Prophecy. I didn't realize she was paying attention (its not about the accuracy of where the peacekeeper is, but her understanding of the message) In my opinion this hotel did some very good things for us on day one of our new life. Aside from spirituality it was very clean, great staff, great location. Thank you...
Read moreWe visited this lodge during the Total Solar Eclipse - as an after event stay over. We found it to be clean - even to our fussy standards. The bed was comfortable enough and the climate control was very nice (has a fan only setting - yay). The bath was well stocked and linens were in great shape. ||Their location extremely convenient for our purpose - yet not all fired noisy despite being nearly adjacent to the 86 and the main thoroughfare. The grounds were well kept and the lighting in the lot provided additional assurance as to the safety of our vehicle and belongings. ||Check in and out was a breeze - we did not opt to do their breakfast though the selection seemed adequate enough. The former lounge/ smoke shop is now nothing at all - and we did not experience any of the "odor" issues mentioned in other reviews. The outdoor area has a closed off gazebo - a bit of an eyesore. ||Staff - very pleasant and, in one particular situation over and beyond helpful. We had taken our own (expensive) pillows, as is our wont when traveling domestically. For the first time, we managed to forget them on the load out. We called the next day after returning home and were happy to speak with Amber (GM?) who assured us that they not only had our items set aside - she would, personally, see to it that they were shipped to us! (mind you, we agreed to send shipping label and pre-pay). Still in all, she had to drop them off at a shipping center and, to us, that is going over and above. (not to mention how many places flat out deny we had left an item when we have done so in the past).||So, well done Whitetail Lodge. WE don't ask for much when traveling, but we are very picky. We will stay here again - no...
