October 10-13, 2024 (casual couple, mid 50s)
If your goal is quiet and getting away from all the connectednessâŚ. This place is perfect.
To state it candidly⌠Iâm not a fan of camping, but I like being in nature. Iâd prefer not to move my entire household out into the woods to enjoy the outdoors. So Bleu Canoe is a great middle ground of full service hotel/lodge and full on DIY camping.
I was looking for a safe, clean place to spend the weekend with my wife for our anniversary. BC showed up in a vrbo search and what attracted me was the affordable accommodations and on site restaurant.
BC accommodations are great beds, clean hot showers and just enough thoughtful touches to make the experience a joy.
Itâs located just off of Lake Burton and affords surprisingly easy travel to innumerable outdoor attractions and small townsâŚseriously, the nearness of several destinations was astounding. I recommend daytrips to Highlands/Franklin/Cashiers, NC , and Clayton/Dahlonega/Dawsonville, GA. Lakes Burton, Seed and Rabun are close. Many hiking trails and waterfalls dot the area as well.
We stayed 3 nights in the Seed cabin. This place can sleep 4, but the common area in the cabin is tight. 2 adults and 2 kids could work, but 4 adults might feel snug. This is more space than the tiny cabins, so keep that in mind if youâre weighing options of a tiny cabin or the larger cabins..
While there, we saw older couples and families alike enjoying the property. The restaurant/bar are a HUGE bonus. The end of each day was spent there either enjoying a great meal or simple drinks and a snack watching college football. The place is a draw for localsâŚa pretty good sized crowd populated each evening. Itâs a first come/first served place. No reservations. Plan accordingly.
Bottom lineâŚit was a great experience for us and gave us exactly what we were looking for, a low effort escape into the mountains.
We had a wonderful time there and plan to...
Read moreBy chance, my husband and I recently stayed at the Bleu Canoe Campground in the Laurel tiny cabin. It was a last minute booking on a holiday weekend and we needed pet-friendly. The location was great for where we wanted to go and what we wanted to do. The tiny cabin was indeed tiny. It was very clean and had all the essentials as listed (coffee pot, microwave, small refrigerator, breakfast items, coffee, creamer, shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, toilet paper). There were also dishes and silverware (2 of each) and some assorted kitchen items and of course, linens. The bed was comfortable but the curtains didn't cover the entire window and were very thin. If you're not an early riser, that could be a problem because it was very light inside the cabin early in the morning. While the pictures of Laurel show a chair and a bench inside, we had neither. There was literally nowhere to sit inside, other than the bed. There was a small bistro table outside and two Adirondack chairs near the fire pit. The only picnic table we saw was up in the wooded area beside Laurel and looked like a holdover from a long closed down actual campground. There are also several buildings that appear to be leftovers from a long ago camp, plus an abandoned looking, overgrown cemetery nearby. Itâs kind of a quirky place. And then, there's the restaurant...wow, what a unexpected find that was (I gave a separate review for the restaurant). The food and drinks were amazing, as was the service. Our tiny cabin and the restaurant were both pet-friendly. And North GeorgiaâŚwow, what a beautiful place. All in all, we had a great time at Bleu Canoe Campground and will probably go back, though we'd love to see a chair of some kind inside Laurel...
Read moreMy fiance and I stayed here at the Burton Cabin for 2 nights and it was amazing! We live in South Florida and were looking for a quiet getaway where we can hike and where our phones have limited reception. This cabin was tastefully updated and had the essentials (charcoal grill, microwave, sink, coffee & coffee pot, plates/dishes/ utensils, oranges and snack bars and plenty of towels!) The bed was so comfortable and the cabin was super clean. We really enjoyed taking hot showers after a day of hiking and enjoying dinner on the porch in the quiet of the woods. The campgrounds has a fire pit that you can use and plenty of hiking near by! Just an FYI there is no heat/ac in this cabin as the listing says so be sure to bring extra blankets if it's going to be chilly :)
Unfortunately we were there on Monday and Tuesday so the restaurant was not open, but I heard the food is amazing and hope to visit again on a weekend!
5 stars to Bleu Canoe for an amazing cabin and property! We will...
