I almost hesitate to write this review, because I'm afraid so many people will flock to this little piece of heaven in the north Georgia mountains that I won't be able to visit without booking far in advance! Nevertheless, here I go...||||For my husband and my 26th wedding anniversary, we decided to get away to the north Georgia mountains for a few days away from the kids (our first time away from them for this long, although the youngest is a teenager). One night I was googling a place near Clarkesville where my high school marching band used to spend a week every summer for band camp. I was wondering whatever happened to that place, since many high school groups across the state used to travel there for summer camp, such as football camp, band camp, majorette camp, etc. I was excited to find it recently became a tiny house campground with a fabulous restaurant!||||I already wrote a review for the Bleu Canoe restaurant (which was so fabulous that we ate there every night of our stay), so I will just focus on the campground. ||||Hubby and I stayed in the Maple tiny house, which was so cute! I can't say enough about the cleanliness of the place. I am OCD-picky when it comes to cleanliness and germs, so I was very pleased that everything was beyond my expectations. Most of the tiny homes are brand new (I believe just a couple of years old), and the older original "fish cabins" have been completely renovated to like-new. I stayed in one of those old cabins back in high school, and I have to say the owners did an amazing job of renovation on those cabins!!||||Breakfast was provided, with a basket of fresh fruit (navel oranges), packets of oatmeal and grits, boxes of a variety of cereal, and quite a few granola bars. Also included in the mini-fridge were little bottles of milk and orange juice. From what I understand, all of the houses come with a kitchenette and full bathroom; outside, a fire pit (with a place to purchase split wood at a very reasonable price) with chairs and a picnic table round out the "glamping" experience. ||||My hubby and I took advantage of our time and hiked the three-mile loop that led right out from our cabin, and explored the Clarkesville area on several of the beautiful waterfall hiking trails. Because the campground is remote, you will only find Wi-Fi near the main area (where the restaurant is), but we enjoyed the break from the "rat race" by being in nature while still living in comfort!||||Fun fact: I was very pleased to see that the old "football field" still exists. The owner told me that nature had overtaken it, so he had it cut back to the original football field measurements, with the exception of an island of trees where he plans to put hammocks for visiting guests (I can't wait to come back in the summer to relax there!). The field is now called a "star-gazing field," and my hubby and I walked out one night when the sky was clear, and we were just mesmerized at the many stars we could see. ||||Other fun things available are corn hole games--located where the old swimming pool used to be, which is now a beautiful patio section that sometimes has fire pits lit for guests in the evenings (it mostly rained when we were there, so we didn't get to peruse these activities).||||I really enjoyed going back in time to this place and am glad to see that it has been remade into a place where my family and I can return and enjoy nature. I loved the place in high school for band camp, and I love it now as a...
Read moreMy little family (me, hubby, 9-year old kiddo, and our medium dog) enjoyed a great weekend in the Rhododendron tiny cabin. I will take the time to post a long-ish review since I could not find many reviews of the lodging. While snug - the cabin offered everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The bathroom and shower are quite large which is great as that is where you'll store your clothing and dress. The tiny window is covered by a full curtain in the bathroom. The kitchenette offered a mini fridge/freezer and a two-burner integrated cooktop. There were enough dishes for 4 people and they also provided a small skillet and saucepot, simple cooking utensils, and grill tools. This was enough for us to prepare breakfast. There was also a sponge, dish rag, dish towel, dish soap, and paper towels. The cabin was impeccably clean. The beds, pillows, and linens were comfortable and the heat/ac system is quiet and efficient. The site also offered an outdoor picnic table, private fire ring, two adirondack chairs, and a charcoal grill (even included a charcoal 'chimney' starter. The sites are sized and spaced like generous RV campsites, and the sites are nicely wooded and and give a sense privacy and a place to hang your hammock. Virtually no cell service at the site, no wifi, and no TV - peaceful! You could get onto wifi near the restaurant if you needed. This was pretty darn near perfect. If I could offer a few suggestions - it would have been nice to have the following - more hooks or racks for towels, hangers in the closet, and a broom/dustpan. While there were 4 nice large bath towels, there were only 2 washcloths and 1 hand towel - I would prefer to have 4 of all the bath linens. Finally, other than the bathroom window, the other windows were not fully covered by the light white curtains / valances so the sun lights up the cabin early. All in all - a great stay and we will certainly be back! (and like the other reviews all say - the restaurant is great!) Also grab a meal at TB&J barbecue (not even 5 minutes away) - great food and...
Read moreWe enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was friendly. The food was Moderat to good. I am from the deep South with ties to Cajun’s in my family in Louisiana. So my expectations of Cajun food is quite high. I ordered the shrimp Creole and was quite a letdown. The rice, the shrimp, and the sauce were all cooked separately and it was layered. The sauce on top had a tomato taste and the overall dish lacked a any Cajun seasoning and flavor. I also ordered a side of jambalaya which was the same tomato sauce on top which was a letdown. My husband normally enjoys jambalaya he had one bite and he was done with it. My husband ordered the crawfish étouffée which was absolutely fabulous. My sister-in-law ordered the special of the night which she was quite pleased with, I believe was a veal dish. Her vegetables were quite nice and flavorful. My brother-in-law ordered what they are famous for and he enjoyed it. I give it a four star only due to lack of flavoring in my dishes and how it was served. Not to my expectations at all and not how Cajuns would serve it. The next time I will order something different and hopefully it will satisfy my expectations. I am happy they are so close to us as far as driving for a decent...
