2nd time, stayed a month ago. Chose South of the Border Suite. Very dissatisfied.
Pros: Large suite
The twinkling stars above the chairs were beautiful. Spent most of our time there
The layered roofing look located under the star ceiling really made you feel as if You could be sitting outside under the stars
The wooden window panels to block out the light were a great addition that complimented the room perfectly
Bed was clean but linens were very worn
The large flat screens were really nice and you could def watch tv wherever you wanted comfortably
Overall decorations were spot on and the tin looking ceiling was gorgeous
Cons:
No surround sound room music, speakers missing from walls and wires left jutting out of walls where speakers should have been
Hot tub......left sand/rust and beige film after every fill. Even when it was not used (we just wanted to see if it would go away or clean itself out) we ended up cleaning it out ourselves after getting rags and spray from the front desk but to no avail it still still ended up gritty at the bottom and filmy around the tub from the water. The head pillows were ripped and wouldn’t stay on. The two person seats did not have dual jets so only one person was able to have the jets on their back while sitting. The stairs and platform to get in and out of the hot tub were dangerous when wet and again we had to lay towels down just so we wouldn’t fall
One of the shower heads wouldn’t turn off, I had to call the front desk and was told I needed to go into the bathroom closet(otherwise if the room off the bedroom) to flip the breaker box. (The 3x we turned on the shower that is how we had to turn off the shower, so we gave up on the shower) especially after we seen the mold in the corners going up and down, floor to ceiling which was also shown to the hostess
The bed comforter while appears high end was ripped and patched so many times we didn’t bother to use it, the sheets were ripped in corners as well.
The drains in the bathrooms sink, the shower and the wet bar all ran super slow and backed up as soon as water was turned on
There is tile surrounding the shower and hot tub area, it is so slippery when wet we had to use all the towels to lay on the floor just so we wouldn’t slip and fall.
Between the 2 chairs there is a table with an overly large fountain on it. There is no space really left to eat together. You have to lean around the fountain to see and talk to your spouse and you have to spread your meal in row form because there isn’t enough room to even have your drink above your plate
We did not use the sauna except to help dry the wet towels. It appeared very small, similar to a small entryway closet. Definitely not room for two
There is also a waterfall feature to the side of the hot tub wall that did not work. There was a switch to turn it on and off but it did nothing.
The entire lighting in the room as very dim. With every light on it was still almost too dark to see. I’m not sure if that was to conceal imperfections or if that was designed to promote a romantic mood (but the first room we ever stayed in had regular room lights if you chose to use them)
We spoke with the hostess and the owner even showed the faults in our room to the hostess, we were not given any type of discount or offer to discount a future room. We were given understanding for the frustration and apologies but nothing to make it worth $165 for one night.
Clearly frustrated and grossed out we ended up checking out 2 1/2 hours before check out time the next morning and went home.
We have stayed here twice. The first time was Rainforest Room and while it was small it was amazing and I would have much preferred that over the one we got. But we are not giving up and have reserved a 3rd room in a couple of weeks to give it...
Read moreOur first stay here was overall, pretty great. We reserved far enough in advance for our wedding anniversary/my birthday, that we were able to choose our room. I requested 'Paradise Beach' based on popularity. Super cool decor. Everything from the sinks, to the painted ceiling and lighting, along with working old fashioned phones and tabletop jukebox was awesome. The jacuzzi and shower/sauna were both huge. The projection movie size pull down TV was fantastic. The only issue we experienced was with the volume, but maintenance was quick to assist us. It didn't totally solve the problem, however. The volume still didn't get very loud. So if you have other devices running, like the jacuzzi, it's impossible to hear the tv. The staff could not have been friendlier. Especially Nancy, who helped with our reservation, and Daniel, who graciously took us on a tour of some of the other fantasy suites. We were super impressed by the African Safari room, and the 'Beneath The Sea' rooms. Pictures just don't do them justice. A few of the most beautiful rooms are located in a remote/quiet part of the building, and are HUGE, and super tastefully and uniquely designed. The Space Themed Room was cool, but the bed a bit too small for our preference, plus its decor felt a little claustrophobic. Lol And it is a smoking room, so it smelled. Our room was extremely comfortable, clean and 100% quiet. The bed was SUPER comfortable. There's a video gaming room, fitness room, 24 hour pool, outdoor gazebo/picnic area, several close by ff restaurants that deliver, but are within easy walking distance, and a bar and eating area that serves a cold complimentary breakfast. We'll absolutely be back. We've been wanting to stay here for ages, but it's popular for a reason. Definitely not inexpensive for a weekend stay, but worth the splurge. Reserve well in advance. Unless you get lucky and get a last minute cancelation, or you book during the week, it's neither cheap, nor easy to snag a fantasy suite. If I had to point out a few issues that mar the otherwise perfection we experienced, it would be that the jacuzzi in our room was extremely difficult to get into, and seemed to be a potential safety hazard. Rather than a series of steps, there was only one short ledge. So unless you have super long legs like my husband, it was a struggle for me getting in. I nearly slipped and fell several times. And I'm already facing knee replacement surgery next month, so that made it extra difficult. The wifi in our room was extremely weak. I had trouble connecting through the night. The complimentary breakfast was VERY basic. Nothing hot. Only cold cereals, fruit, yogurt, bagels/muffins. Kind of disappointing, given the price you pay for the rooms. The sauna steam shower in our room was amazing, but it can be overpowering if you're not careful. My only real suggestion would be to make the Jacuzzis more easily accessible. It's just a matter of time before someone gets hurt from trying too hard to...
Read moreHands down, the BEST hotel room I've ever stayed in!! It was a wonderful experience, from the moment we walked through the entrance. The grounds, & lobby were well manicured & clean. We were greated by the desk attendant, as well as the general manager, Shannon ( who was awesome! ). And treated as if they'd known us for years. With that being said, that's not even what made this hotel such a unique & amazing experience. Most of the rooms are your normal hotel room..they also have small apartments for extended stays. Then there's 12 themed rooms!! We rented the rainforest room. Entering the room, it was quite the sight to take in!! It was as if we walked outside, instead of a hotel room! Nice size hot tub for 2, immediately to the left of the door.. Adorned with a smaller, 3 tier fountain, mirrors covered the walls behind it, as well as the ceiling..which also had lights that looked like the stars. 2 leather recliners, facing the big flat screen, with cable, & just to the left of that..a tiki bar with mini fridge, coffee & speaker system that continued to play the sounds of a rainforest..birds chirping, crickets, & thunder. Just behind the recliners was the floating bed, lights softly glowing underneath, in the shape of a circle...tiki torches along the bamboo headboard, which also cased a CD player & controls for every light in the room! The bed looked like it was being held up by the 4 palm trees that surrounds it. Like the hot tub, it also has a mirrored ceiling with lights like the stars. There were so many trees & tropical plants/flowers all over the room. And if you're into amazing showers... The bathroom delivers!!! Stone tile, glass door..stone bench..large shower head like normal.. Then there's 8 shower heads off the wall, massaging the back, large shower head on the ceiling coming down like rain..& a button to make it fill with steam. The place also has an incredible swimming pool, that's open 24hrs, sauna, game room & slots room. However, we never left our private Oasis the entire time, we had food delivered to our room from the abundance of restaurants around. Once we checked out we realized we had become addicted, and wanted to try out the other 11 rooms that were themed. Staff member gave us an exclusive tour to every room , each being cleaned by the staff members, who were just as nice and polite as when we first walked into the entrance of the hotel! So so glad we treated ourselves to a trip to the rainforest and I never even had to go outside. Do yourself a favor, take a special someone and find the themed room that makes you both, remember why you fell in love in the...
