This hotel is the only choice in Commerce and we needed a room for one night.
I feel the biggest drawback that impacts the aesthetics is the state of the room components. Like the shower head has scale, the bathroom vanity obviously settled, creating large cracks in the caulking--just random things like this that give low quality vibes. For me, it's the details that sets the impression. (which I'll point out I liked the cute unique washcloth holder on the vanity) I just really do not get any "personal pride" from this establishment. Maybe if some competition existed it would create incentive to elevate the experience. I agree with what one reviewer stated, it's like the owner/staff just doesn't love it enough to go all in. The bare minimum to be ok but no drive to be great. And I guess being the only game in town perpetuates it.
Room: has the bed, an armoire, dresser, couch, chair, TV, dining table with 2 chairs, mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave and hair dryer . Free wifi. Didn't use the ac unit so can't comment on that. Tried the TV - - it had very basic channels and no local news stations. You get AccuWeather and some other global weather channel. The bed was super soft but I think that's from the mattress springs being worn out. You sit down and practicality fall in/backwards. I believe the whole hotel is non smoking but either the room was once smoking (the hotel was a holiday in express prior) or someone smoked despite the policy. Cigarette burns on various furniture items attest to this. Plus, basic amenities--alarm clock, phone, USB ports - - are oddly missing from the room. You do get 2 packets of conditioning shampoo and 2 packets of body lotion and soap bars. No conditioner or body wash so bring your own if needed.
Safety: Isn't it law to have smoke detectors in rooms? I saw a hole and wires in a circular hole where I belive a smoke detector once was. It could be it was being replaced but I see other reviewers have noted missing detectors as well so I'm thinking this is a permanent omission.
Breakfast: Can't complain as far as it being offered. Nothing we ate was horrible. Biscuits were crispy which I assumed was a one off but, again, see other reviews with the same experience. They are the big fluffy biscuits and could be soooooo soft and delicious. Sausage was good and spicy. Gravy was thick and a little lumpy. The potatoes were good, though not seasoned. They also had muffins (really moist, soft and tasty), apples, yogurt cups. Oh and waffles and eggs but we...
Read moreCheck in was simple and the young man was friendly. When I got into room it seemed clean, decor is outdated and bed was not very comfortable, as it was slightly firm, but worn. Room had microwave and mini fridge which was nice. Within 5 minutes noticed two bugs crawling on the bed my son was on, then got up and one was crawling on bed i was sitting on. The bug resembled a bed bug. I called office and explained and the manager told me he was sure it wasn't bed bugs but he would come up. He came up within 5 minutes and picked the moving bugs up with his hand and said he didn't think they were bed bugs and that he has A-1 pest control out every.month and they put a bed bug protectant so even if they get in there they die quickly. I'm not sure if he thought this was relevant information to me, but at that moment i could care less, as in my opinion they were bed bugs. He then says he can move me to another room if I'd like, which I said of course. He was nice, but bugs are unacceptable period. We pack our stuff and meet him and the young man downstairs. He give us another room on the other side and the young man inspects it. The room seems bug free, but no fridge and microwave in this room (not all have them, i am later told). The room could use a fresh coat of paint, new wallpaper, and new furnishings but it is ok. The beds are hard and not that comfortable. For 100 bucks it is definitely overpriced. The breakfast was basic looking and not that appealing so i skipped it, but my son got some biscuits, a hashbrown, and bacon that upset his stomach later. The orange juice was good though. People were friendly, but I would not stay here again. If it wasn't for an important meeting i had that morning at the college, i would have left after the first room bug issues. Heres a picture, decide...
Read moreWhere do I start. When we tried to check in, the clerk did not come out of her office for at least 5 minutes. After finally getting checked in, we went to our room only to find fliers along the walls and doors stating they had a bug problem. The hallway on the second floor to our room was hot and smelled musty. We finally entered our room only to find trash around the bed on the floor. There were several small "bugs" on the floor in the bathroom as well.
My wife did not want to sleep under the covers for fear of bed bugs so off to Walmart to buy a blanket. We then went to the pool/hot tub area only to find the pool water was way too cold to swim. The hot tub was hot but there were no jets or bubbles. I went to turn the timer on only to find the timer was hanging out of the wall with the wires exposed. Not good practice to have exposed electrical wires in the pool area.
The next morning I went to get their breakfast. Bad move. The scrambled eggs were hard and appeared to be at least a couple of days old. As for the biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were hard as a rock and the gravy was lumpy, cold and had the consistency of glue. The orange juice was passed it's prime and had a foul taste. Quite possibly the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel, especially one that was priced as much as this one was. STAY AWAY FROM...
