From the outside, the hotel does not look like much with crumbling concrete sidewalks, peeling paint, and weeds all over the parking lot area. I checked into the hotel on a Monday evening for a work training, where they had me pay up front for the three night stay that I had reserved. The employee at the front desk was friendly and honest about the parent company (like saying not to purchase anything from the gift shop because it would be cheaper next door if you needed anything). When I went to my room, the hallway was littered with food wrappers, plastic silverware, and other trash, including people piling bags of trash outside the doors of their rooms. The room itself was acceptable if you have low standards. My floor was not carpet and seemed relatively clean. The room seemed grimy though like it had not seen a deep cleaning in some time, especially in the bathroom where all the cracks and crannies had gray soap scum (?) all over. The room smelled weird, almost like it was super musty, which was weird since there were not a lot of surfaces that seemed like they could hold a smell. I turned off the fan/AC in the room and it still smelled bad. My room overlooked the ping pong/pool table area just like probably half of the rooms in the hotel, and no one enforced the quiet hours so people were making a lot of noise outside the room until well after 11:00 pm. Then they continued to make substantial noise in the adjacent room late into the night. The soundproofing was not great and so I also was up early listening to the people making a ton of noise while they got ready as early as 5:00 am. The lighting was dim throughout the building, there were several places that smelled like marijuana, and a lot of loitering people that made it incredibly uncomfortable to walk around the hotel or especially in the parking lot after dark as a solo female traveler. There were only a couple of working lights in the parking lot that were surprisingly dim and ineffective. I have actually never seen that many people hanging around in dark areas around (and inside) a hotel. The breakfast was simply juices and coffee, and prepackaged pastries with no real protein options. Along with several other solo female travelers attending the training, we switched to a different hotel as they also had concerns about their windows opening to the street at night with no locking mechanism, and extremely dirty carpets in their rooms. The front desk lady said she would text the manager to make sure she was aware of the request for refund, and would send our request to the corporate office to process a refund for the last two nights of our stay. The three of us called repeatedly throughout the next couple of days, and I stopped in person on Thursday morning to see the status of the refund. The front desk lady said the corporate person (Debbie) would be in later that day, and to return then. I called again and was told Debbie was busy but wanted to meet with me so I returned Thursday evening. Debbie was surprised to see me and said she had no information regarding the potential refund, and said she would look into it. I told her some of my concerns with the room and the reason we moved to a different hotel. I called again in the morning and she said a refund would be issued, and she sent me the folio. I requested a status update the following week after I had not received any communication or indication of a refund on the credit card and I received no response. I emailed again the following week. The information I was sent at reservation did not say there would be a penalty or charge for early check-out, or that the guest would be required to pay for those nights. At almost two weeks, the hotel will not respond to any correspondence (written record) and nothing has come through on my credit card. I will update this review following my dispute on my credit card transaction and with any further interactions...
Read moreWell guys I’m going to skewer you. The reason? Just not trying very hard to have a successful hotel. ||Background I stayed here on Feb 2022 with family (and dogs) while enjoying a pleasure trip to the St Luis Valley area. It was winter, it was cold however the reception here was fairly warm. No restaurant, no lounge and some reminisced about a once nice water park addition and talked of the past when this was THE PLACE to book weddings and parties. Not anytime recently apparently. ||My review and feedback in February was to improve consistency with the rooms, work on getting junk cars gone from the parking lot, work your way out of the transient business while actively courting business travelers, vacationers and other nightly guests. ||So fast forward 3 months. The vehicles sitting on flats are gone from the parking lot and it was nice to see familiar and friendly faces at the front desk. Transients, loafers and those looking to be down on their luck are still hanging about. ||The vandalized entry doors (most are shattered) and the lack of security locks catches the eye first. Secondly still not offering so much as a stale doughnut in the morning? Some sort of breakfast is expected in the 2020s. Oh well there is coffee and a little shop offering snacks near the front desk. We can make do, the rate is favorable. Now in May 2022 “my rate” is 85% higher than 3 months earlier. This is the high season. Oh.||I have 2 canines again and although not well kept the front vegetated area adjacent to the street suits them. I asked for a quiet room convenient for the pups. Upstairs, yes that’s fine. Incidentally room 201 is mine for 3 days. Across the hall guess what..a nice loud family complete with overstressed mother, screaming children and a door that can only be slammed. Long-termers apparently. Quiet? Anything but. ||I took a few pictures. We all enjoy seeing what that guy is talking about..||Oddest? Nearly no toilet paper, wires dangling from the ceiling where a smoke detector once resided and a glaring hole in the entry where missing ceiling tile lets you see the fossilized remains of a chill water air conditioner system. A relic actually. ||Someone has gone and broken the back of the bed and although here to enjoy the valley it shouldn’t include a mattress that also resembles a valley. ||Day 2. I return, no maid service, so no toilet paper for a start. ||I saunter down to the front desk and mention the missed housekeeping service when I asked for toilet paper. “Weekly guests receive maid service on Wednesdays”. Yes, but I’m a nightly guest.. The polite young man encouraged me to read a notice on the desk that explained “Due to Covid…”. Wait, what, that’s over and this is a hotel, not a rooming house…and just who made this decision? Ridiculous! He doesn’t know, it’s the way it is though. ||So my mistake is now obvious. This IS a rooming house that will occasionally accommodate a nightly guest, so long as you don’t mind the rules put in place for the transient folks. ...
Read moreMy asthma was triggered immediately upon entering the building. My husband noticed his allergies also being triggered whether it was from the smoke and/or musty moldy odor. They said it was smoke free but had a fre fans or something around trying to soak up the smell in several locations but just made for extra noise. I'm sure it used to be a beautiful building that now seems like an abandoned hotel with a run down water park and lobby. We had specifically wanted a place with a pool and spa. The slide and waterpark features and the spa being boarded/shut off as well as the pool area being and poorly lit that made it difficult to see kids and objects in pool at night time. The lobby had games to play but was very hot from the air conditioners of the rooms and several overhead lights burned out again being dimly lit. Even though there wasnt any rain, there was a leak from the ceiling with buckets overflowing and wet floor all over that area. The walls and carpeting, especially stairs up to our room were very dirty like they hadnt been cleaned in a long time. The room had a big hole in the back of the bathroom door, a shower nozzle about to fall apart that made it difficult to use, dirty debree all over the bathroom vent also alluding to improper air circulation for breathing. The dresser drawer was replaced with a string. The ladies at the front desk seemed nice. They had to buzzed in to come help since they had been outside and at least one out smoking. The kids felt unsafe just from the atmosphere of everything. It was also disappointing that there wasn't any protein for breakfast. Thankful and excited for breakfast until we found it was just lots of sugary breaded carbs. There was a few pieces of fruit but all prepacked items except pancake batter. Being that we and all the guests we spoke with were heading to the sand dunes as I assume many guests are there for, it would be helpful to provide a bit more of a roundabout breakfast with their nutrition slightly of interest or mention a light continental breakfast. We purchased this room in advance expecting for a fun family experience hanging out together for the evening. Instead they didn't want to leave the room even though they didn't even want to stay in the room, and refused to shower thinking it might break on them. I know it takes money and man power for upkeep but a few things could really change the place and environmental feelings. The fitness center seemed to...
