I recently had the distinct pleasure of staying at Loews Coronado Bay Resort, and I feel compelled to extend my heartfelt commendation for the exceptional hospitality and refined service I encountered throughout my visit. Nestled on its own private peninsula, the Resort commands a majestic presence, where the tranquil waters of the San Diego Bay meet the vast expanse of the Pacific. The property’s architectural grace is matched only by its breathtaking surroundings: sweeping coastal views, sun-drenched walkways, and a serene marina that glistens at golden hour. It feels less like a hotel and more like a sanctuary, an exquisite retreat where nature and refinement exist in perfect harmony. From the moment I arrived, the experience was nothing short of exemplary. Upon pulling up to the main entrance, I was warmly welcomed by a valet attendant with a smile and poised demeanor offered an immediate sense of comfort and professionalism. Though I arrived slightly ahead of schedule due to an early conclusion of my meeting, your front office team responded with seamless efficiency. Anthony, in particular, was remarkably attentive and courteous, informing me that my room was being readied and offering to notify me personally once it became available, a thoughtful gesture that did not go unnoticed. The accommodation surpassed all expectations. My room was immaculate, elegantly appointed, and offered a breathtaking vista that invited serenity. Lunch on the patio was equally memorable, superb cuisine, attentive service, and an ambiance that perfectly captured the resort’s charm. As we strolled the property, I was especially taken by the meticulously maintained gardens. The landscaping was not only pristine but imbued with a quiet elegance that elevated the entire experience. What truly distinguished this stay, however, was the consistent warmth and sincerity expressed by every member of your staff. Each interaction, from housekeeping to maintenance, pool attendants to the hotel operator was marked by genuine smiles and gracious engagement. As a former hotel manager who rose through the ranks from Head Concierge, I understand intimately the transformative power of a sincere smile and eye contact. These seemingly simple gestures are, in truth, the cornerstone of exceptional guest service. Your team embodies this ethos with remarkable consistency. following gestures were not exceptions, they were representative of a broader ethos that permeates every corner of the resort. For instance, when I asked a housekeeping gentleman (whose name I regret not catching) for directions, he didn’t simply point the way, he paused with a warm smile and personally guided me to the shortest route from the front desk to my room. It was a quiet act of courtesy, yet it reflected a level of attentiveness and care that speaks to the heart of your team’s training and values. Similarly, as I passed a maintenance team member diligently engaged in his work, he looked up without hesitation and greeted me with a sincere “good morning,” accompanied by a genuine smile. It was a fleeting exchange yet profoundly telling. That moment, unprompted, unforced that embodied the kind of graciousness that cannot be scripted. It revealed a culture where every role is honored, and every guest is seen. These simple gestures spoke volumes about the culture of hospitality your team upholds. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Ryan, your Director of Front Office, for his prompt and professional email correspondence. His responsiveness and attention to detail exemplify the high standards of leadership that clearly permeate your team. If there were a rating beyond ten stars, I would gladly bestow it. For now, please accept my wholehearted 10+ and my deepest gratitude for a stay that was not only comfortable but genuinely restorative. Warmest regards, Mohammed...
Read morePublic Service Promotion|We stayed at Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado, California from July 20 through July 25 for a much-needed vacation. We were able to take advantage of their public service employee promotion, which we are so grateful for because it allowed us to take a break from serving others and feel cared for in return. The promotion even included a discount on self-parking, which made the trip more affordable and accessible for us.||Our Travel Background|My husband and I travel fairly often and have stayed in many different types of accommodations. We have stayed at Hiltons, Hyatts, Marriotts, and charming privately-owned hotels like the one we enjoyed in Rome. We have also stayed in cozy bed and breakfasts, such as in Sonoma and Cayucos here in California. Our travels have taken us to Switzerland, Japan, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean, British Columbia (Victoria and Vancouver), multiple areas throughout the southern U.S. states, and many parts of Southern California. I share this so readers have a sense of the type of traveler we are and the standards we are comparing this stay to.||Warm Welcome and Service|From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. Even though we did self-parking, the staff greeted us right away, guided us to the parking area, and made sure we knew exactly where to go. Each time we returned to the main entrance of the resort, we were welcomed again, which gave the stay a really warm and caring feeling.||Our Room|Our Resort View King Room with Balcony, Room 2217, became a peaceful retreat every evening. The room was very clean, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Some reviews mentioned that the rooms were aging, so we looked for it, but we only saw very small signs of age and only because we were looking. It did not take away from our comfort at all. We also ordered room service during our stay, and it was excellent. Food arrived quickly and fresh. Sitting on the balcony with coffee in the morning or relaxing in the evening was one of our favorite parts of the day.||A Small Suggestion|If I had one small suggestion, it would be for better bathroom ventilation. Unless we missed it, we did not find a fan in the bathroom, and a little more air circulation would make it even more comfortable.||Dining|We enjoyed the food on-site. Silverstrand Exchange quickly became our daily coffee stop. My husband loved the caramel macchiato, and I tried a few different drinks, all of them delicious. Their chocolate chip cookies were a highlight too—soft, rich, and so good. On our first night, we had dinner at Cays Lounge, and the burgers were cooked perfectly for our taste and very tasty, exactly what we needed after a long day of travel. La Cantina by the pool was another favorite. My husband enjoyed a burrito, and I had a Brussels sprouts taco and a fish taco, which were both fresh and flavorful. We also noticed that they offered vegan and plant-based options like tofu bowls, which we thought was great.||Fitness Center|I also want to point out the fitness center. I did not use it myself, but my husband, who travels with me often and goes to gyms regularly, said this was the best hotel fitness center he has ever seen. It was spotless, well-equipped, and clearly cared for by someone who takes pride in it. He said that person deserves recognition.||Overall Impression|Our stay was exactly what we hoped for; relaxing, comfortable, and full of excellent service. The staff was consistently professional and friendly, the room was spotless and comfortable, the food was great, and the whole experience made us feel valued. We left with no complaints, only gratitude, and we would be happy to return. We also hope they continue the public service promotion, because it truly made this wonderful stay...
Read moreThis is an update to a previous review. Unfortunately I have to change my 2 star to a 1 star. Feel free to read the entire review below. To summarize, our bathroom sink was not functional during our entire stay. The staff was fully aware of this and didn’t offer to change our room, or give us a refund.
After posting the below review, we did receive a call from Loews. They apologized and offered us a discounted stay in the future. We tried to use their offer for our anniversary but were unsuccessful. Per the instructions given to us we emailed the front office director directly to book the room and got ignored for two weeks. After our third attempt he emailed back saying he would help us by the end of the day. That was the first and only time we ever heard from him.
We also tried calling and were told a manager would call us back shortly. Unsurprisingly we never heard a thing. It’s apparent they don’t have time for us. There are a lot of options in the SD area. We recommend skipping this one.
Original review below
I took my wife here for her birthday and things didn’t go well. I’m going to talk about the big issue first, then give a honest review of the resort. When we got to the room my wife immediately noticed that the bathroom sink was clogged. We called the front desk and they promptly sent a maintenance man up. We went to the pool to give the guy a chance to work. After about an hour i went up to check on things. The sink plumbing was completely torn apart and I heard the maintenance gentleman telling someone on his walkie-talkie that they should find us another room. I couldn’t understand the response but the maintenance gentleman told me he would keep trying and I should try back later. We spent another couple of hours at the pool and then went back to the room. The mess was cleaned up so we assumed it was fixed. When I tested it again it immediately backed up and stayed that way all night. We were irritated but due to the late hour decided not to request a move or have somebody come back and spend more time in the room. We utilized the bathtub to wash our hands, brush our teeth, etc. The next morning the sink still hand standing water in it. We decided to just go ahead and check out. We live fairly close and just wanted a functioning bathroom. I know this stuff happens, but my biggest complaint is that they left us hanging. They didn’t fix the problem, they didn’t offer us a different room, or even follow up on the problem. At checkout when I brought this situation up to the desk attendant she expressed some sympathy but seemed mostly unconcerned about our plight. Bottom line, we had a lot of options for the weekend and we chose Loews. They let us down. Now for the rest of the story…. The location was beautiful, we had a great view from our room. The staff for the most part was friendly and attentive. We had a chicken sandwich and a cheese burger at the restaurant. They were mediocre but the truffles fries were delicious! The pool area is very nice. Multiple pools, multiple hot tubs and plenty of seating. The pool area has a bar… i would stick with beer, the cocktails are expensive and underwhelming. Also, if you’re coming from out of state, there lots of hidden fees at our hotels. That’s not a Loews thing, it a California thing. Last comment, my review is one of many. Take them all into account when choosing a hotel. I’m hoping this was a one off and we just caught this place...
