2 years ago this place sucked for $15 a night and now they want $35 a night and it sucks even worse. The owners are constantly driving up into your camp and their dog is out of the car walking through your camp half the time. They supervise you and it's incredibly uncomfortable. There's absolutely no sense of privacy, and if it's not because of them, it's because of all the homeless camping across the river, fighting in the middle of the night and getting a good show every time you try to take a dump because there's nowhere to dig a hole that isn't out in the open. (They really don't like you exploring the completely empty campground, they want you to stay in the one spot that you are taking up.)There used to be a portajon but they got rid of that apparently. There's no place to dispose of trash. The river is not accessible because it's full of sewage, so no fishing or playing. This place has at least 50 campsites that I know of but they only actually let you use maybe 8 of them. You can't get a hold of anybody over the phone, so even if you put your money in the box upon arrival, you're going to be interrogated. This place is so close to town that you can't even enjoy the sounds of nature because you just hear traffic.
I'm sure they increased the prices for this awful location because they don't have enough people willing to camp here to actually financially cover themselves, and now that we are living in the recession they voted for, times are hitting hard.
There are several places to camp within half an hour of this spot that are only $10 a night, in a proper forest with actual seclusion and water that is safe to splash in. Don't be an idiot like me, drive a little longer and enjoy yourself some place that's actually...

My friends stayed here last night. Poor communication sent them to the wrong campsite at which they were confronted with a gate.
Choice A: open the gate and turn around on the loop to go back to the right other campsite they were supposed to be at... Also owned by the same people.
Choice B: Back their 43' long butt down the extremely narrow road the had just driven down.
Obviously choice A. Which they told the owners when they arrived at the correct site.
The following morning they get a call from owner telling them he went down to the other site at 2:30a.m. and said he saw ruts in the road and that he was coming to call the cops and have them thrown in jail.
You get what you pay for. But you might want to spend a few extra bucks...I would at least take the time to read a few more reviews on this place...
Read moreHillcrest aka Canal Tunnel Campground was not a great experience. 1. the lady who owns it...lets just call her Karen was not the most welcoming, then upon leaving I left my things on a picnic table to use the porta potty in the "a.m." (oh, no other campers there btw) and she *yelled at my hiking buddy that we were using the wrong table. 2. You pay $35 for no trash cans, no power, one water spiket ( by the table you can't use) no firewood 3. The river has a sign that warns to make absolutely no contact with the water due to sewage. I wanted to like this place after being told it was run by some old Christian folk, but it was a totally different experience. She probably didn't like me due to the fact that I have some flower and...
