Date of stay: September 2023 Barefoot Hills is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a pleasant and peaceful location to relax and listen to nature while you rock on the porch and drink your coffee, wine, or whatever makes you happy. When we (three senior citizens) arrived, Mary Ellen greeted us with a smile and showed us to our rooms. We stayed in the main building, though the smaller cabins were easily within walking distance. All of the walkways/paths were nicely maintained and easily walkable. Our room was clean, neat, suitably furnished, and the bed was very comfortable. Mary Ellen prepared the fire ring so that we could enjoy it when we returned from our late dinner (however, we didn’t light it, as we were tired from our long day and just went to our rooms). In the morning, we enjoyed coffee while rocking on the porch outside our room, then again, on the main deck while overlooking the mountain view. We only stayed one night, but we wished we had time to stay longer. Mary Ellen was a superb host, sharing info about the area and making us feel welcome from the minute we arrived until we departed. We definitely recommend having a meal at the Riverside Tavern, about ten minutes down the road at Turners Corner as well as 19 Degrees North in Dahlonega. We definitely enjoyed our day in Dahlonega which included visiting the Gold Museum as well as Crisson Mine. One day just wasn’t enough time to visit the area. We will certainly have to return and stay at Barefoot Hills and plan for more time just to relax and enjoy the property. We’d love to have time to play on the oversized checker board, lay in the hammock, try some of the other games offered at the front desk, take some short walks around the beautiful property, and of course, relax on the porch and deck enjoying the views. We’ve already recommended BH to our family and friends and know they’ll love it too. Arrival tip: As you approach the entrance, slow down, and drive in at an angle as you begin coming up the steep driveway.

The place is nice, clean, and in a good area, but I wish there were some sort of noise barrier between the floors, or a way to call someone while people are being disrespectful. It may have not been their fault, but it would have been nice to be able to reach out to someone about the noise after around 10. It sounded like a little league game upstairs from a little after 9pm till around 3am; they were then back at it at about 8 am running on the porch. I got absolutely no sleep. The main floor has a large multi-room section with stairs, and the space branches off to 2 rooms above the 2 single rooms to the sides, and you can hear everything that is happening above (which wouldn't have been as bad if they weren't so terribly loud). The staff was really nice, and brought up the noise complaints from the other room as soon as we saw one another, so we didn't have to. Overall, nice staff, Comfortable beds, and a nice mountain look and feel. We just had a bad experience.

My wife and I stayed in one of the containers, modified nicely into a usable space that could easily be used to stay for several nights, the porch on one of the containers has a decent view. The bathroom appeared clean and the living/bedroom area is a rustic designed with wood and barn tin. there is a TV, refrigerator, a microwave, coffee maker, sink and a couple plates and bowls with silverware. Not perfect but pretty darn close. The kitchen area was showing some wear but, definitely not a problem. The walk from the parking area to a few of the rooms is not a long walk but, is on the natural terrain and walk paths not concrete, and could be an issue for older or handicap. I did notice some cabin style buildings closer to the parking lot and the main office where i saw a large porch and seating area that has a fire pit, horse shoes and Cornhole boards. Definitely a peaceful place and recommend, If you're in the area give it a try.

We are saddened that your company only cares about $ and not people. Although your property is unique and beautiful we unfortunately had a terrible experience at your cabin. At night the smoke alarms 🚨 began to sound off approximately every 30 minutes even though we did not cook or heat anything up at all. I’m not sure if you have heard the smoke alarms at your establishment but they are extremely loud, aggressively give instructions to evacuate in a yelling and intense voice. Beyond being terrifying, this was a major issue for us as we had a sleeping 2 yr old who is difficult to put to sleep getting startled awake. Even now he is so traumatized when he sees smoke alarm in other places he is saying ‘red light this scary’ and pointing to them. As you also know my husband was in bed early for the race that we invested quite a bit of money and time to participate in coming from Florida. Needless to say he did not get a good nights rest either. Perhaps infuriated me more was the fact that we had called and emailed about this over the night and no one was at the front desk to help us. Eventually we found all the alarms and left them at the front desk for you so that we can get some sleep finally. The icing on the cake was the reaction the next day from your hotel staff. When we told him about the alarms he said oh yeah they were on the desk going off all night so annoying and loud. Then he mentioned to me that he was getting notifications to his phone and watch that they were going off yet nobody came physically to check on us even though they went to the property to see if it was a real threat or issue.Justin called me the other day to let me know that he had spoken to corporate and that their decision was to give us a 30% discount on a future visit. Prior to requesting that he had said that he thought that was corporate was going to do. However, I am not very satisfied with this resolution because there’s no guarantee that we will stay there in the future it is not a frequent or close destination for us since we live out of state so you basically offered us NOTHING :( Even with the discount we would never stay...

The Hiker Hostel is an amazing place to stay! My wife and I have been staying there for the past few years, and we absolutely love it there. The owners, Leigh and Josh, are gracious hosts who just naturally make you feel at home and like you're one of the family. They are down- to- earth, genuine folks who'll bend over backwards for your needs. Their knowledge of the area and mountains are second to none. The lodge and cabins are far and beyond better than any hotel in the area and half the price, and Leigh's breakfasts in the morning will put a hotels paltry, microwaved buffets to shame! In the bottom of the lodge is a huge, comfy living/ community room with a full kitchen and washer and dryer. It's great after a long day of hiking or biking to hang out with the other guests and enjoy the company. They offer private rooms with its own full bath, plus a bunk room to accommodate those on a budget. In the evenings you can relax on the deck that has its own fire pit built in the center! We recently stayed in one of their new micro- cabins and were thoroughly impressed once again! They were cozy without being cramped, and the thought and customization put into their construction and detailed finishes were simply incredible! And did I mention that have their own private deck to relax on at night and watch the sunset?? I almost hate to give a great review because we'd love to keep the Hiker Hostel all to ourselves! With only a short, quick drive to Dahlonega anyone would be a fool to spend twice as much or more staying in town at a hotel. If you wanna get away for a quiet weekend, or wanna be shuttled to one of the many trails to hike, the Hiker Hostel is hands down the best value for your dollar anywhere in Georgia, or for anywhere else for that matter!! If you stay here once, you'll be hooked like us and keep counting the days til you can go back...
