Nice room, very clean. Beds were comfortable and check in was a breeze. We had the pool to ourselves and it felt amazing! The hot tub could have been nicer as far as the seating (only one height so I had to lean down in the cement seats to get the jets on my shoulders) but it still felt amazing! I will take it any day over how most hotels don't have one. We went in the gym to look around and it had a full weight machine, which I don't usually see. It was small if there would have been a lot of oeople, but it was empty because it was a slow night. They had 1 elliptical, 1 stationary bike, and 1 treadmill. They also had medicine balls, free weights and the big blow up exercise ball. There was a scale and water in the gym also. It was nice and well kept. There were outlets on the lamps that made it nice to charge things. The internet was also the fastest I have ever had in a hotel room. The shower pressure was also the best I have had.
We had pizza delivered from Casey's and it was delicious. They had 24 hour coffee, tea, and hot chocolate in the lobby. The lobby was decorated and very homey. They had several couches. There was a business center, but we did not use it. I liked that they had two well stocked vending machines as well.
Now, my only complaint. I read the reviews on here and chose this hotel over the one next door because of the breakfast reviews. It went from 6-9:30. We did sleep in until 9, so that may have influenced the food too. However, the eggs tasted really rubbery, the pancake machine was messing up for people in front of me, so I didn't get to try that (which I was looking forward too). I will add that the worker was trying to get it going and even had the maintance guy with her. They may have fixed it, but I went and sat down. I liked that they had salt and pepper at the tables. They had bacon, although I didn't find it to be very good. I wanted to have biscuits and gravy, but the biscuits felt rock hard (probably from being out there since 6) and the gravy was about gone. I wanted to have toast, but there was no bread left, only bagels. I asked about more, but she said they were out. The orange juice was just a tad over room temperature, so even that didn't do it for me. They did have ceral, oatmeal, and fruit (no oranges) but I didn't have any of those. At 9 when I sat down to eat, I heard the worker ask the guy at the desk if she should make more eggs. They were pretty much gone and there was still 30 minutes left for breakfast. He told her no, and I found that bad. If It is supposed to go until 9:30, I think they should have all the same stuff as they do at 6 and It should be somewhat fresh. So this was the worst hotel breakfast experience I have ever had. That's usually one of my favorite things. It was a very slow night for them, and we did wait until 9, so it may have just been a bad time because of that.
Even with the while breakfast deal, I would still stay here again. I would definitely try again to see if it was just because of the day and time. All the workers were nice, and the hotel was very nice and clean. We were not disturbed by anyone and...
Read moreIn the past month, we have stayed at 5 Holiday Inn Express Hotels in North Carolina, Michigan and Illinois. All have been clean, quiet and comfortable and the staff have been very friendly and helpful at all of these places, with exception of one desk staff employee. The overnight front desk employee at the HIE in Danville on Saturday, August 8, 2015, was unpleasant and extremely rude. My family was in town for a wedding and my wife and I were traveling with three girls ages 15, 14 ad 9 years. With my three children, we returned to the Hotel around 11pm from the wedding while my wife chose to remain with the bride's family at the wedding a little longer. During August, HIE was featuring "pancakes at night" until midnight and my 9 year old decided she wanted some 11pm pancakes. I allowed my 14 and 15 year old to accompany her to the pancake machine in the breakfast area while I waited in the room. When they returned, the told me that the woman at the front desk came over and watched them make the pancakes, no offer to help but instead said, "you're probably not even going to eat those" and "people shouldn't waste food". My kids reported this to me and unfortunately I brushed this off thinking that maybe this clerk was just annoyed that the kids were walking the halls at 11pm unaccompanied by an adult. We all went to bed and my wife returned later that evening. In the morning, my wife relayed to me an incident that occurred the previous evening around 1:30am when she returned to the hotel with the bride's parents and 3 other adults from the wedding party, She said that they were waiting for another family to arrive from the wedding and sat at a table in the breakfast area. Within a minute or two, this clerk walked over to the group and said, "This is going to end one of two ways - either you go to your rooms now or I am calling the police!" The bride's mother became angry and demanded an apology for this rudeness to which she was told by the clerk that they had been "stomping through the hallways", yet this party had just arrived from the wedding. Needless to say, this did not go over well and the party did retreat to a hotel room in order to remove a very angry mother of the bride away from this clerk. This is very unfortunate and a true anomaly from any stay that we have had at any other Holiday Inn Express. Had i not been so pleased with the my previous stays, this would have been my last stay at an HIE - anywhere! As it stands, I will continue to stay with your company as I truly believe this was not representative of your company. Now, I can't say the same for the mother of the bride or anyone else that was in that bridal party..... I think someone needs some additional training in customer service...
Read moreEarly on the morning of our arrival, my husband called to tell them we would be arriving before check in time and wondered if we could use the pool. They said they would try to have our room ready by the time we arrived, but we could use the pool regardless. When we arrived, our room was indeed ready.
The pool facility was great. The water was warm, the hot hub was amazing.
Our room was great! The only complaint I had right away would be that the baseboard tiles needed repair. The room was excellent otherwise. The couch was comfortable to sit on, the ottoman was on wheels and moved very easily out of the way. The TV was nice and big and our son enjoyed watching it while we got ready for a wedding that we were in town for.
I didn't sleep well, however. The bed was hard, the pillows were too flat. I usually bring my own but I forgot it. I didn't sleep well and woke up with a stiff neck. My husband slept great and said the bed was comfy....just depends on your preference I guess. Our son seemed to sleep well on the pull out couch.
Breakfast was ok. Just the norm pretty much...yogurt, pastries, cereal, toast and English muffins, fruit, biscuits and gravy. They did have eggs, sausage, and bacon as well. The eggs were just ok. Mostly everything was empty when we first got there but there was someone working on filling everything.
The staff was extremely friendly! Always asking how our room was or how our stay was going. I even had the receptionist compliment my earrings and told me I was georgeous, which made my day since I pretty much just got up, brushed my teeth, and got dressed before we left. Didn't freshen up my...
