I stayed here with my dad, his girlfriend and their 14 yr old chocolate lab, this last weekend. We were sadly in town for my grandfathers funeral. My dad had found this location on the internet and decided to book it simply because they accept dogs. So, it’s kind of inconveniently located - not near anything in town. The hot tub is “down for maintenance” but everyone that lives near by says it’s been “down for maintenance” for 20/25 years. There isn’t a continental breakfast, but there is a breakfast restaurant that has a $9 breakfast buffet with had less options than your very average continental breakfast. There are no food vending machines. There is ice and soda, but if you want a snack you have to go to their “gift shop” which is basically a closet by the front desk that had about 5 options; cookies, candy bar, small chips, gum, and aspirin. So all that aside, I can live with all of that... But heads up to those of you who travel with your pets. Although they may accept dogs (with additional fees) be sure that you keep your pets with you, on a leash at all times. Rooms 1100+ on the first floor, in the back corner of the building (assuming that is where the keep all “pet people”) there’s a back/side door. The long hallway of rooms leads to an even larger hallway, the back/side door at one end and the other end there’s a door to some kind of employee lounge. Now my dads dog is a senior dog and very well trained but can hardly walk, she’s old, has hip problems, happy as can be but moves as slow as a turtle. We left our room, the dog is maybe 2-4 feet in front of me and about 80 feet ahead and at the other end of the big hallway in the employee area, this ridiculous human screams bloody murder and literally flies backward out of her chair.... SCARED (apparently) of the dog that she could “see was coming towards her”. We never came within 50 feet of her or the employee lounge (where they need to have the door propped open for all the guests to see in). The dog and I proceed to go outside, she goes potty and we head back in. Only to be phoned by the front desk demanding answers about what had happen with myself, the dog and this employee. We were strictly encouraged to have the dog on a leash at all times, never to leave her in the room if we are not there (kennel or not). So after paying $50+ on top of the cost of the room to have our dog with us, we have to bring her everywhere and make her suffer getting in and out of the truck when she’s already exhausted and sore. All I’m saying is 1). Don’t apply for a job at a pet friendly establishment if you are terrified of dogs. 2). As a pet friendly establishment maybe don’t hire that person, since clearly it’s been an issue. 3). Employee- calm T. F. down. You in absolutely no way were in any kind of danger but we appreciate you being a dramatic snitch and running to hotel management because you made yourself look like a damn fool. And I am not even going to comment on your udder disregard of looking/acting even somewhat professional.
Needless to say we are never staying here again and wouldn’t recommend anyone else does either. We come back to Decatur a lot, almost my entire family lives here, so will be letting them know about our disappointing...
Read moreMy wife and I were on a business trip in Decatur and looking for a nice hotel with good rates for our 2 night stay. I found the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel with what I felt was a SUPER rate. The photos looked amazing, the restaurants seemed lively, bright, and cheerful, and the rooms looked well kept. ||OMG...was I ever wrong! ||When we arrived I felt like we had stepped into the Twilight Zone. The hotel portion looked really worn, the paint was faded, there were cigarette butts all over, the walkways were dirty, there were just a few cars in the HUGE parking lot, and every restaurant and bar in the hotel were closed...and it was around dinner time. The hallways were dark and the elevator looked like something out of a 1960 hotel with faded numbers and a dark and dirty interior. ||When we got into our room on the top floor we found that the room was very dark due to drawn curtains and it was very hot due to the AC system being turned off. My wife went to the bathroom and as she was finishing up she said, "Oh Gross! There are someone else's underwear hanging on the back of the door!" ||Luckily we had not unpacked and immediately made the long trek back down to the lobby (expect to walk about 100 yards from the lobby to the hotel portion.). Jessica, the woman at the front desk, was most apologetic and immediately put us into a different room.||When we got into that room we found the same dark, hot room and when we pulled the sheets back we found 3 black hairs in between the sheets. Not to mention that all of the light bulbs in each room were different types and colors. One was a CFL, one was an old incandescent, one may have been LED, there were warm hues and soft hues so it made the rooms feel even more bizarre. Mortified, we made the football field length trek back to see Jessica. ||We explained the situation, showed her the pictures, and explained that we were not going to stay and were planning on going to another hotel. She completely understood, apologized again, credited our account, and even made some recommendations for different accommodations. While Jessica was helping us finish getting checked out, we heard another couple come up to the desk and say to Jessica, "Just wanted to let you know that we were able to change rooms and this one is better."||After flying overnight and only getting 2 to 3 hours of sleep, making the 3 and a half hour drive from Chicago, and then working all day long, we were exhausted and just wanted to go to bed which made this experience even worse than it was. ||The only positives in this situation were that the main hallway had old chandeliers in it that gave it a Stanley Hotel, The Shining type of vibe which I actually thought was kind of cool. Jessica at the front desk was absolutely FANTASTIC in handling a poor situation that was absolutely not her fault.||If you're planning an event, go to Homewood Suites or Hampton Inn just...
