Park Motel — Hotel in Denison

As I expected from a tiny motel in a tiny town, it's old and musty and needs updating but this review is based much more on the knowledgeability, or lack thereof, of the staff running the place.||To at least start on a positive note- I requested a 1pm check in, because the standard check in time is 3pm but we had a wedding at 3, and 2 kids who needed to rest and get ready first. They honored that.... Except......... When we were given the key by the one and only woman working, we went to our room only to find one of our two beds was completely unmade- as if someone had just rolled out of it- and there were dirty used towels on the bathroom floor. I went back to the office to report this, and was told the housekeeper had already left for the day. So we were directed to a different room. Ok, great! Except that room was tiny with only one bed- we needed 2 beds. Went back again, and I was told by the same woman that it was her second week there and she didn't know which rooms had what. She then told me all the double queen rooms were booked, but that 2 parties hadn't shown up yet. She said she could clean our room herself but it would take 30 minutes- we were now almost 40 minutes into this. Luckily one of the parties who hadn't yet arrived was another of our family members, so I asked if we could have his room and she could clean ours for him since he wasn't due to arrive for another hour. She agreed and directed us to that room- 147. Except 147 doesn't exist. So we figured she meant 247 and went up, tried the key, didn't work. I had to go back AGAIN to tell her we couldn't find 147. She said "no it's 247" and I told her we tried that but the key didn't work. She realized she'd coded the key wrong. We finally got into our room after an hour........ No naps for the kids after all, and 20 minutes to get ready for the wedding. Like I said, the room was just as we expected, comically so, but that whole experience was...

I am the Supervisor of this motel and personally witnessed Ms. Allen leaving her door open her kids running in and out all evening letting these bugs in herself, she did not call the desk to come rid the bugs, so we were unable to remedy this situation because we didn't know it was an issue until now when Ms. Allen wrote this review. When Ms. Allen made her reservation the motel was booked full and she was informed right away that she would have to move rooms the next day to stay another day and that house keeping would have to get into her room the next morning to get it cleaned because it was booked that day to a different customer. She agreed and paid for her room. This is why house keeping knocked on her door in the morning. Also, I informed her when she checked in that if she wasnt going to stay she had to let me know by mid morning. Which she did not. She waited until mid afternoon to inform me. Therefor I had turned away several guests for the room I had reserved her and so I felt Ms. Allen should pay for the lost revenue incurred by her not following motel policy. When Ms. Allen called the motel informed her that I would be charging her for this room and Ms. Allen was yelling at me over the phone and I was the one who could not get a word in edge wise, so yes I hung up on her. She then called me back threatening law suits and fraud and all kinds of other things. Had Ms. Allen followed my instructions and notified me mid morning as she agreed to that she would not be staying another night no charges would have come to question. But because I am an excellent motel supervisor, I still cancelled the reservation for the day and lost out on revenue to make Ms. Allen happy. To me this is excellent customer service. I'm sorry Ms. Allen if you felt other wise. Come back in again and try us and we will give you a great rate.

This Motel is better than you would expect. I wanted to sit down and write this review and give credit due where it is due. I am passing through the Denison Iowa area staying the night at the Park Motel. I had the opportunity to talk with the Manager Nancy. She's a very good hearted person and makes a person feel right at home. Very hospitable and makes guests feel good. The Rooms are very decent . warm clean and comfortable with good TV channels and a fridge and microwave. Very Comforable bed. All and all my overall opinion of this place is a very good one. I highly recommend this place to all Travelers using highways 30 and 59. Stop in if You need a quiet decent place to stay. Good people and good customer service. If your gonna stay in Denison stay Here!! Lastly, we as Americans need to support our Loca American Mom and Pop small Motels and Businesses. That's the American thing to do. Thumbs up to Nancy and the Park Motel in Denison...
