TownePlace Suites by Marriott Chattanooga South/East Ridge — Hotel in East Ridge

Took the family to a quick trip to go see Ruby Falls and Rock City. Long time Marriott Bonvoy member as I travel alot for work and felt this hotel would meet me and my families expectations. Check in was smooth and we were upgraded to a mountain view room which was nice on the 3rd floor from our double queen room. The hotel is very convenient to new restaurants and the Bass Pro Shop and Top Golf. The lobby and hotel was overall well present clean and bright. Our king suite was very spacious and when it came time to make the what we thought was a couch bed line many hotels, it was most certainly not and I guess the very friendly clerk didn't take that into account when me, my wife and our two children were standing there checking in with him. Not a show stopper but we made it work, but just odd that it was not a pull out sleeper like majority of major hotels such as IHG does with their suites. Anyways, there was a travel baseball team also at the hotel and I guess half were on the third floor with us and the rest were on the 4th floor, as we would hear them stomping all around above us and outside the room which I get it, they are travel ball kids with a lot of energy but after 11pm to midnight it gets to a point where the parents need to all stop drinking outside on their tailgates leaving their kids unattended in the rooms and hallways. Breakfast, always something we enjoy as a hotel perk but travel ball parents are the worst by making huge plates that their kids weren't eating and anything that wasn't locked down was stuffed in their pockets and bags. We witnessed this on both Saturday morning and Sunday morning and the poor staff could not keep up no matter how hard they tried bc the travel ball parents were essentially like vultures hovering over the entire kitchen awaiting restock, absolutely zero care about any other guest, so both mornings we had to go out and buy breakfast. So overall our stay in the room and staff were great, but I'll never stay at a hotel if I know any travel sports teams will be there bc of how crazy and careless their parents are bc it's all about them and who cares if they make a mess and destroy the breakfast area so they can stuff their faces and pockets. It was also really awesome to see the random moms just walking around with full bowls of cereal around the entire lobby eating while their kids took all the tables...

This hotel has a policy where they do not rent rooms to locals (which, in my opinion, is a discriminatory practice to folks in the area/neighborhood who live in extended-stays). However, I previously booked rooms on behalf of family coming out of town. On the first visit, I go to check in and they say they cannot honor the booking because I am a local. I say it is for my in-laws who are visiting. They agreed to honor the booking and my in-laws had a wonderful stay.

My family was coming to visit this weekend so I booked another room since it's close and they enjoyed their last stay. As I open my Bonvoy app this afternoon to get some details about my reservation, I see that it has been cancelled. So I check my email to make sure I didn't accidentally cancel, and I had received an email from the front desk simply stating they do not rent out to locals so therefore they canceled my reservation. This was four hours until my family was due to arrive and now they had no place to stay.

As soon as I saw the email I promptly called the front desk to explain that yes I am a local but I booked it as a courtesy to my family who is visiting from out of town. I was spoken to with disregard and disdain, the representative saying, "if they're staying why isn't the reservation under their name?" They later admitted that they were also overbooked and had no rooms left so they could not rebook after the mistake. I asked if there was anything they could do to help me and they said nope sorry. My partner called back asking them to book us at another hotel since they technically canceled because I am a local but really they canceled because they had no rooms left. And typical hotel policy is that if you overbook, you have to accomodate guests at another hotel at your cost. They got out of doing that by canceling due to my being a local (without any previous notice).

The management here does not even bother to check with guests when canceling their reservations under the presumption that we are all locals experiencing home insecurity, trying to stay at their hotel. This is NOT the case. Some of us are simply reserving on behalf of family as a courtesy for traveling and visiting. I will not be booking any future...

After a long day driving we were tired and the hotel was pet friendly. I booked using my marriott app on my tele as we were pulling off the interstate. The app said I couldn't check in for an hour but went to the hotel anyway. We got there and the fellow working the front desk said come on in. He was so friendly. I though the hotel looked rather new (a few months) but front desk guy said it was just over 2 years old. Loved the clean neutral modern decor. Loved the room and having a fridge/freezer as I had frozen items that needed to be kept frozen over night. I have to say I spent the last 7 nights on a hilton mattress and love marriott mattresses so much more. The hotel area seemed safe walking my puppo on potty walks. The grounds were pretty clean from puppy muffins. There are several places to eat in the area and a basspro. Front desk staff were friendly at both check in and out.

I have 2 complaints that are design/construction related. 1- it sounds like wood frame construction with no sound insulation between floors. I could hear the people above us walking around and could tell they had kiddos too. In turn since we were on 2nd floor we tried to walk lightly as to not disturb anyone that might be below us. 2- while I love the modern single fixed pane of glass for the shower with no door... water does make it's way out on to the floor and on the back wall. If this was my shower at home I would want to fix it to not have water damage on wall to allow for longevity of such a nice property. Overall I would stay here again and recommend this stop to anyone. Thanks for taking us in...
