To Whom It May Concern: I stayed at the Ramada West Atlantic City hotel from 9/9-9/11. During that stay, I was told the location does not comply with ADA requirements or NJ State Law as it relates to person with disability.
Upon speaking with Wydham corporate customer service, I was told Wydham allows its franchisees to make their own rules that contradict federal and state laws. I am surprised by this and have filed a police report and civil rights report in New Jersey but was hoping to get some assistance resolving this situation.
When I checked in, I had my trained service animal with me. He is a dog that is task trained to assist with a medical condition covered by the ADA.
At the time of checkin, no one mentioned the animal, which was wearing a service animal vest at the time.
When I returned to my room the following day, the key card did not work. I went to the front desk and was told I had been intentionally locked out (rather than calling or leaving a note) because I had not paid a pet fee.
I said the animal was absolutely not a pet, was a task trained service animal. I told them more details than I should have needed to.
I was told I needed an animal ID card (which you can purchase online for as cheap as $4, and requires no documentation to obtain) - which is NOT accurate. No establishment can put such a rule in place and it is also not the type of card that people with legitimate animals necessarily carry.
I did bring him a copy of the document I use for airlines - it: States the animal is a service animal Shows who the vet is Shows that all vaccines are current Shows the name and contact information of the trainer Swears to the animal has never shown agression Swears the animal is trained to behave a public place
This should have been BEYOND sufficient, but I was still charged a PET IN ROOM fee. I was also LOCKED OUT of my room before this charge was assessed.
The customer service department of Wydham attempted to contact this hotel who still refused to acknowledge the service animal during my stay.
The following day, the Egg Harbor Township police confirmed the hotel was in violation of New Jersey State law and interfering with a disabled person possessing a service animal and also violation of ADA.
I would appreciate someone getting back to me regarding this. I did file a complaint by phone and was told someone would reach out within 7 days but was supposed to have been escalated higher with a sooner (unspecified) contact time. I was not very confident in this conversation as the employees seemed to be in a different country and were unable to do anything when contacting the hotel by phone.
The entire experience was very upsetting, disrupted my weekend to report this behavior. The aggression of the staff member made me feel uncomfortable leaving my room. I was also unable to have the complimentary breakfast. Finally, this location also had syringes in the grass areas around the hotel which just seem like they should have a requirement to keep free of that...
Read moreThis may be a long review. We ended up staying here at the Ramada because of a mix up with the place we were originally booked to stay. So we booked this less than 24 hrs.of arrival. From the reviews we were skeptical but hopeful, it is pet friendly so that is what determined our stay. First and foremost the reviews were horrible, we booked 3 rooms, only 1 was supposed to be pet friendly. Upon arrival they put all of us in pet friendly, though they tried to convince us otherwise. Also they were supposed to be in smoke free area, my room reaked of smoke. My girls and their family rooms smelled fine at first. I always carry my lysol and other cleaning supplies so I did not complain about the smell. The room was surprisingly nice inspite of the reviews, or so I thought. For some reason I felt like something was biting me but still did not complain again last minute room. And overall the rooms appearance was clean. However when I went in bathroom water was on the floor, wiped it up but in about an hour water was on floor again, and on top of toilet seat. It was hard getting to sleep, also saw a couple of small bugs. The next day my son-in -law went to the office and insisted our rooms were not pet friendly. Their bathroom also had water but theirs smelled of urine. They did end up moving us, my 1 daughter and her family stayed in pet friendly area they have small dog, and they actually had no complaints their room smelled fresh. Now the positive we were moved into the main building, this is the Ramada I remember, I am 70 years young and remember when the Ramada was 1 of your nicer places to stay. Happy and comfortably now, slept like a baby last night. Looks like the Ramada and others are doing some much needed renovations. Covid brought about a lot of necessary changes. They are updating the pet friendly area too, it is really needed. I love dogs so I understand why the rooms are not as nice, but they should be free of bugs and odor. I would suggest they do away with the carpet, and perhaps make their rules a little sticker. Check the room before the guest leaves, keep the deposit if room is not left in good shape. So if you read the reviews and are horrified, just know that It's ok to stay here. You get breakfast included, pool is nice and they are...
Read moreBooked a room online and requested a pet friendly room; called a day ahead of time to verify the reservation/room and was provided a pet deposit/per night fee due upon check in.
When I arrived at the hotel I was disappointed before I even checked in, not at all what I would expect from a Ramada brand hotel - back of the parking lot was piled with old carpet rolls and garbage, the wood fence at the back of the lot was collapsing and broken, grass overgrown, weeds growing waste high through cracks in the parking lot.
When I went to check in receptionist told me that I had to put more money down than I was told on the phone, pay additional taxes, and that after I called the day before the hotel had "modified" my reservation (without notifying me).
After putting up the additional money I checked in and found that the room I was provided matched my original reservation. I contacted my online reservation and was told they could transfer my reservation or cancel it; as finding pet friendly hotels is hard enough I left it alone.
Before I comment on the room, I observed that it appeared as if some of the rooms in my building were being actively remodeled.
My room was dated and in need of upgrades and repairs. The bathroom was partially tiled, but the ceiling showed signs of prolonged water damage with brown spots, the sheetrock tape and plaster was separated, torn, and falling down. The bathroom door didn't latch and the door was 3/4" smaller than the width of the frame. The paint on the front door was peeling, the corner of the carpet at the foot of the door had been cut out and removed. Paint was peeling off the walls in the bathroom and there were holes in the corners of the walls in the luggage storage area.
The bedspread had cigarette burns and was threading. The pillows provided by the hotel were closer to throw pillows than bed pillows.
The in room refrigerator was cold, the microwave was clean, and the room was altogether clean.
I expect much more from a brand name hotel than what the Ramada provided me.
While this is not the hotel's fault, the neighborhood surrounding the hotel is seedy and neighboring hotels are abandoned. It is convenient to the Atlantic City Railroad Terminal/AC...
