Pretty bad experience for the best day of my life! Booked my wedding at Catamount Mountain. I was really excited for a summit ceremony. It ended up raining and we weren't able to have it, which is nobody's fault but just the cherry on top of this horrible dessert of a weekend. The woman we booked with was great and going to help us with everything. Found out a few months later that she no longer worked for Catamount. Another woman took over for her, we worked with her up until ONE WEEK before our wedding. We had a final details phone call with her and two days later received an EMAIL that she was moving on from Catamount. Never heard from her again. Some details of our special day were lost in translation. We showed up to decorate and arrange the tables how we wanted the day before, and the reception room was FILTHY! We had to ask for a bucket of soap and water to wipe the tables down, and ask for the room to be vacuumed (not just a few dirt tracks on the ground but filthy, it was really bad). They still charged $6,000 to rent this space even though we had to set up and decorate ourselves, and it was filthy. The house and additional rooms we rented for the weekend and paid lots of money for were also not cleanly. The floors had a film over them you could feel with your feet, some rooms had dirty towels, cold showers, and there was an enormous wasp or hornet nest that stung my pregnant bridesmaid and caused her to fall down the stairs. Because of the change in so many hands of wedding coordinator, we were left with no one to run our rehearsal, and the new person they hired to coordinate weddings had her first day on our wedding day! I feel like she would have been great if we could have had her at least 2 weeks before and for the rehearsal, but we weren't given that chance. All in all, I would say do not book your wedding here! They should stick to their outdoor activities. I am grateful that our reception ran pretty smoothly, our other hired vendors were excellent! Caterer, photographer, videographer, and DJ were all GREAT! And the bartenders were great too. So our guests did have a wonderful time and most did not know about our added stress and frustration throughout the weekend and leading up to it. They really didn't seem to care about the lack of cleanliness and the added stress for our wedding. They offered a small refund and the housing guy even admitted he knew about the cleanliness problems. So just ignore it for the best day of our lives?? Unacceptable. It could have been worse for sure, but save yourself the stress and book somewhere that specializes in weddings and with more experience. Stick to the outdoor activities Catamount, save future brides & grooms from...
Read moreCatamount is a great mountain, whether you’re teaching your kids (or yourself!) to ski or you’re looking for some decent steeps in the Berkshires. And now that they have a new tubing park for the 2022-2023 season, there really is something for everyone.
Almost half their mountain is dedicated to beginner and gentle intermediate terrain and is served by two chairlifts, one of which has an optional mid-mountain stop. They have three magic carpet lifts and a centrally-located learning area. Best of all, they offer very reasonably priced half and full day “mountain cats” programs for kids just learning. As of this review, the half day is $125 for three hours (including a snack break w/ provided hot cocoa & snacks), and the full day is $215 for 6.5 hours (includes lunch & snacks). Considering other mountains charge similar prices for a 90-minute group that includes nothing else, and this is a great deal, especially if you’re looking to take some kid-free laps!
The other side of the mountain (near/across the NY border) is the true summit and is served by two fixed chairlifts. Off those lifts, you’ll find mostly intermediate to advanced terrain, with four double black expert trails offering some good (albeit brief) challenge as you work your way down. Beware that Catamount has no high speed chairlifts at all, but they have a 1,000 foot vertical and the mountain face is pretty steep so the chair ride isn’t too long.
Staff here are really friendly and the mountain is small and cozy enough it seems everyone knows each other. We enjoyed some live music in the lodges as we took our lunch break one day.
The snow tubing park is brand new this year (22/23 season) and is a nice departure from other places we’ve been. First off, tickets are $25 per two hour session which is the lowest price in the Berkshires. Next, the ride is long and fast! The lanes are also wide allowing you to ricochet off the walls (think of a bowling lane with the bumpers up) rather than just a tube’s width. So each ride really is different/unique and keeps your interest for the full time. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the carpet lift takes you from the true bottom all the way to the top, so walking is minimal in between rides down. They had a few pit fires set up and have bathrooms and a food truck on site too. My only critique would be the muddy parking lot, which should be filled in with gravel and/or paved but the tubing is so new, I suspect they will further improve as time moves on.
Thanks to Catamount for another great trip with our kiddos, and to Chloe, Gabby and the rest of the mountain cats crew for helping teach our two girls (3 & 5) how to ski! See...
Read moreGood evening, My name is Tom, my twin 19 year old sons and I recently had a reservation do the zip line tour. Our reservation was set for Monday the 26th at 11:00. We were greeted by staff and office staff everyone was happy and professional. They communicated clearly and precise as we watched the video and given clear safety instructions. We then secured our harness, and tested for proper fitting. Went outside and did safety test signals and test line. We then proceeded to the chair lift to begin tour. Our instructors just left on the chairs, a lightning strike a few miles away. So our tour was postponed an hour. Long story short our zip line your was cancelled due to weather. We did understand the safety concerns, but this is why we drove from Virginia for this experience. We walked back and turned in harness, and spoke of other potential opportunities to get this ride in possibly next day. Erin and Kevin exchanged my phone number, just in case the weather window opened where we could get the ride in. We stayed in Barrington that evening, waiting for the chance the weather cleared. Around 8:30 am I did get a call from Kevin, he said we may get a window around 9:30 that morning. We checked out and headed back to the mountain. Around 9:30 we were waved in to the zip line room. We were really happy to have another chance to get this ride in. Erin and Kevin had the harness and helmets layer out, asked us to put on. Asked if we had any questions. We chatted and laughed about our different zip line tours we have been to before. They reviewed the zip line safety process and safety braking. We loaded on to UTV and went to top of mountain. Lear instructions on braking and hand and arm signals reviewed. My sons loaded first, we were told the stats of the zip line tour. They left and then my turn, what a great experience. Then my sons loaded for for the long line, they filled us in on the different mountains and views from this platform. So beautiful My sons left, excited to see which one would win. Then I went, an amazing ride down. This will always be remembered by myself and sons. We are forever in the debt of Erin and Kevin for them coming in on a day off to allow us this awesome zip line experience. We will be...
