This place is probably a 5 star for RV's but its not a tent friendly place at all. For starters the the entire camp ground is one long stretch between two busy roads so you get traffic on both sides of you all night, we had young people in pick up trucks driving around all night which was very loud and the headlights shine right on you in the tent area that's right at the y for the two roads. There are only two tent sites and about 10-15 rv sites. the two tent site are right next to each other with no privacy we had to use our car as a barrier for privacy from the other tent camper. the tent sites are the furthest from the bathhouse that is surrounded by all the rv campers who probably dont even need to use the bathhouse because... RV's. There is wifi but the tent sites are to far to get the signal. The tents sites are 5 dollars cheaper (15$) than the RV's sites (20$) but have no power or water and one of the tent sites (the one we stayed at) had no fire pit just a charcoal grill where as the tent site next to us and it looked like most of the rv sites had both so we had to use charcoal to cook our hotdogs even though we had wood with us and would have preferred a camp fire. So considering that we had less than half the amenities as tent campers I think 5 dollars cheaper than the RV sites doesn't make up for the difference in amenities imho... they also have a rule that you cant tent camp in the rv sites even if you pay the rv price (20$) this rule was posted on a sign. So if your in an rv great but if your in a tent its kind of a screw you here. Its fine if they want to cater to RV's but it would be nice if they would tell people on their website that they are not tent friendly or at least let tent campers pay the 20$ so that we could have power and water if we wanted. I will say that the area was pretty and the bathrooms were clean even if the toilet in the mens room was just behind a curtain which was a little strange but was clean (probably because no one uses it since its mostly RV's here) Wouldn't tent camp here again unless it only costed 5-7 for tent sites since you get far far less amenities and convenience than the RV...
Read moreThis place is a gem. The sites are spacious. They back up to a small lake, which is quite pretty. It’s bordered by huge beautiful cottonwood trees. The road campsites closest to the lake are very well shaded. The sites that are farther from the lake or not. It’s very peaceful and quiet. The bath houses are immaculately, clean and extremely well-maintained and appointed. You can hear some noise from I 70 if you’re outside your camper. That’s partly because it’s so quiet here otherwise. I will definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend it. They do not presently have any electronic payment system. You will need cash or a check. The fee for RV and camper camping is $25 in the warm season when the water is turned on. I think it’s $20 in the cold season when the water is turned off. I’ve only had a look at the town late at night after 10 PM when everything is closed. But it looks very pretty. There are several very beautiful old stone churches, and the downtown area, which is within a five minute walk of the campground, is very attractive. I look forward to coming back when I can spend some...
Read moreNice little campground ran by the city of Ellis. Inexpensive. Two sites must share a utilty post. This causes some confusion with people as most utility posts are located on the drivers side of the RV. At this campground, every second site has it on the passenger side. People get confused and pull into the sites the wrong way thus having the picinic table and firepit on the wrong side. Old rundown playground. Bathrooms were clean but very old. Mens toilet has a curtain for a door. Caretaker is a city employee and swore at me under his breath for using a freshly cleaned bathroom. The playground has a huge field right beside it that my self and others were using it to play fetch, so very dog friendly. The mini railway runs around this field. The lake, which is more like a river, has fish in it. There is a main road running right through the center of the campground and some people do not slow down. Very windy place. The wind didn't stop blowing for more than a few hours the whole time we were there. (three days) Still, a nice place for a over night stop or a few...
