Palmetto Inn — Hotel in Estill

Stayed during hurricane season. It wasn't fantastic but I wasn't assuming a 5 star hotel by far, but I was expecting more than this due to the nearly $300 we spent to stay three nights. (-) they were price gouging. (+) they gave us the room we asked for so that was good. (+) Parking was great. (-) the key card didn't work at first. (-) there was a hole in the door around the knob that they shoved with toilet paper and taped off on only the outside. (-) there had obviously been a hole in the wall, they just patched it up and left it, no repainting. (+) the shower and toilet were cleaned. (-) when you turn the shower head on some of the water streams straight up into the corner and the whole Celling was wet. (-) it smelled like blunts, malt liquor and urine. The smell faded because we brought air freshener. (+) the phone worked and we could call long distance to our family. (-) they have no generator so we lost power during the tropical storm, and never regained it. (+) they had wifi. It was okay... while it lasted. (+) owners were very nice, had no problems with them. (-) wallpaper was curling off the walls. (-)lights and shades were broken. (-) carpet smelled funny and was wet in a spot. (-) one set of towels for 3 nights. (+) no roaches like most of these motels (+) good air conditioner (+) good refrigerator. (-) some dresser drawers were falling in. (+) tv had local cable. (-) tv was probably older than I am. (+) microwave (-) no coffee pot (+)there was soap (-) no shampoo and conditioner. (+) there was toilet paper (-) the toilet paper was super cheap and the roll was nearly used but there was...

Relatives and I stayed at this location recently and dealt with the following problems:||• Bathroom shower head was not on securely. It fell off several times.||• The bathroom shower enclosure contained large amounts of caulk.||• The shower faucets were loose and leaked water constantly.||• The shower/bathtub dispersed “lukewarm” water only. There was no “hot” water.||• Light fixture by the bed was falling off.||• Smoke detector was partially installed. Wires were hanging from the wall.||• The bed contained mattresses that were “worn” down to the degree that I felt the springs.||• There was a very unpleasant odor in the rooms.||• Several of the walls had paint “peeling” from the bottom.||• The heating/cooling system had no cover or vent.||• Room keys didn’t work consistently.||• Ceilings were leaking water from the apartments above.||I believe that the Health Department or the responsible party needs to inspect this location for health/safety purposes as soon...
